Does the phone have to be off before you enter download mode? Or better yet, how do I enter download mode because I pressed both volume buttons and inserted the cable when the phone was off but it didn't activate download mode.
To Put The Phone In download mode, plug in to a USB Cable that is connected to a computer or any other device with a usb port Power it off before connecting then when it is completely off hold down both volume buttons the insert the usb cable in the device while still holding both buttons....it will immediately take u to download mode Same process for the recovery mode but u just have to hold the volume up button

power off the phone fully, and then hold both volume buttons, then plug in the phone.
You press both power button and volume down key
