You have a pipe that brings the water down from the tank to the sump. Add a tap on this pipe to control the amount of water flowing down & adjust it according to the water uplift.

Good explanation thanks, however how to go about using sump filtration for under the tank instead of above... How to control water flow and prevent overflow due to Gravity??? Above tank does not.look nice for a home tank, under the tank can be hidden so this is appropriate!
