  • I recently acquired this beautiful Country Craftsman. It was in pretty rough shape, but with a little care and a lot of coaxing, I was able to get it into usable condition. I like this wheel because all the parts fit together without glue or screws, and it can be broken down/put together in a matter of minutes! This is a lovely recreation of a Colonial spinning wheel; it's such a shame that they are no longer being made. Piano Music of Joseph F Lamb performed by Sarah Davis Buechner.

I had to really work with this to get the alignment right... it was pretty tricky. Gently playing with the wheel uprights can help (twisting them to change the wheel angle). But you have to be careful not to twist too much, otherwise you might actually wind up making it difficult for the wheel axle to turn in the grooves.
Also, the way the drive band is tied on might be an issue. Alden Amos has a very comprehensive discussion of drive bands in his book, "The Big Book of Handspinning."

Hi- I also have a Country Craftsman that I love, but i see that you do not have anything between the mother-of-all and the table- under mine there is a circle of felt. I also can't get the wheel to line up properly with the flyer wheel- in other words, spinning S twist is fine, but when I spin Z twist the double drive band slides over into 1 groove. Still works for plying but there must be a way to improve it. Otherwise, it spins very nicely.

Brandi Adcock oof that’s gonna be tough to do over messenger. These wheels are temperamental and each one is a little different. Too bad you’re not local to SoCal. We have an active spinning group and you could totally bring your wheel along for a meeting and calibration

My Ashford spinning wheel, is broken. Is there someone in the Netherlands who can fix my spinningwheel? Or is it possible to fix it my self. The wheel is not turning like it supose to turn. And I am missing a lot of things. Where can I buy products.

There's an awful lot to consider there. I will assume you are new to spinning. If that is true, then I would suggest the ashford wheel.

cotton twine! that may work better than the leather cording i have. i have the same wheel and im having tension issues, the bands wont stay in the grooves on the wheel. also where the yarn is supposed to wrap around the dowel, mine doesnt seem to be wrapping around it (sorry for poor vocabulary, i dont know all the names of the parts yet).
