Wow, what a treat! I was looking for a 'how to' for a Gothic window with the circles in them. But this is a delightful video that will get me started. ❤
I think I know what you mean... because he is using a rope as a measuring unit, the 'numbers' are 1 for the base plus 1/4 added to each side of the base for the pivot point.
@@jbob2934 там у него не цифры, а буквы(по краям Е, в середине М) от крайних Е во внешние стороны, он отступил еще четверть от отрезка ЕЕ(или половинку ЕМ)
You said we're going to learn how to draw a medieval gothic cathedral. What you meant to have said is that we're going to learn how to draw a medieval gothic arch.
This video covers the gothic arch. If you want to see how to draw an entire floorplan of a cathedral see my other video here: ruclips.net/video/bKPmY80jjxQ/видео.htmlsi=lAc6s_tGn1CxCiVh
The whole thing is based on ratios so it should be independent of scale. Make the original width of the arch larger and you just need a longer string, the process and resulting arch (and ratios) remains the same.

Awesome! So simple, once you see it. Thanks!
This is even better than what I was hoping to find. Thank you!
this is a great channel man, I hope you can make more videos one day!
Turn auto focus OFF so the image doesn't jump around trying to follow your hands!!
Thanks for this very clear explanation!

Brilliant!
very helpful
What is the length of 1 side of the arch
Brilliant
Very cool!
Thanks I need it that for a pointed fireplace I need to build
now thats a ruler lol
the marks would be more visible if the string was of one colour. this one is patterned, the marks are hard to see.
Спасибо!
Здравствуйте подскажите пожалуйста какие там цифры не могу разобрать?

@@ЛПХЛичноеПробноеХозяйство спасибо.
so the height is the same as the width as the building
The height of the arch is the same as the radius of the circle used to create the arch.
@@medievaldiy8103 Nope. The heigt is the same as the width. The radius to draw is equal to the widht x 1,25
What if i wanted wider and not so high
To make it lower and wider you would move the pivot points inwards on both sides.

@@medievaldiy8103 Oh, thank you! ❤ I do want to see that!
how about if you showed in a large scale
The whole thing is based on ratios so it should be independent of scale. Make the original width of the arch larger and you just need a longer string, the process and resulting arch (and ratios) remains the same.
@@medievaldiy8103 , thank you ..
Is the length of the hypotenuse in the 3-4-5 triangle the same as the length of one side of the arch?
You sound like Mads Mikkelson
