Richard I love watching your videos, you make us aware of how important it is for us to get out of the car and walk!! I know where Fittleworth is as have driven up Bury Hill numerous times, will visit The Swan one day if only for a coffee
Yes - it was a lovely old pub called The Blacks Head, l think - no one gave it a second thought I always thought maybe it was a reference to a blacksmith or something.however They recently removed that sign which had a black mans head on it hanging right over the street in similar way , in Ashbourne over the high street, because of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020 it was thought to be racist now and might cause riots or worse. Although apparently it was named after a famous ? Turkish merchant who was a famous businessman in Ashbourne few hundred years ago . Now I think it will be kept in a museum for safety.
Hahaha! As soon as you said trees Julia's whole face just lit up (& I said she's excited about the trees) & then she goes "trees!"😁 Anyway, I enjoyed that one so much I'm going to rewatch it right now. Just way too many old buildings to fawn over!!!
What a gorgeous little village - there’s not a straight line in the Swan inn! I think there’s a lot of the ironstone because Fittleworth is very close to the southern belt of Greensand that you find just north of the South Downs (and is the same belt of sandstone that you find just to the south of the north Downs!)
Richard, I so appreciate all your meanderings, especially into the villages, where we see various architecture. Have an increased interest in England since a cousin found evidence of my Great Grandmother, from one of the Nowell families. Great Grandmother Alice raised 3 of her children in a village of West Dereham, Norfolk. My closest cousins related also to my Great Grandmother did respond recently, but have no idea what county she lives in. Would love to live there in England, but I have no idea where. Thank you for your walks cause then I can see the towns, bigger cities, and villages. Have used my android to Google to see the country side of Norfolk, which seems to be more farming country. Your county of Sussex seems to be some different, maybe more country for raiing cows, (beef cows?). In my younger days in Alaska can remember walking through woods like that. If I was with you and Julia, I'd be going up to that spooky house, and looking through the windows, taking a closer look at the construction of house. But that house is really deep in the woods. That would be hard moving furniture into a house like that. Am intrigued with your walk, and house. Thank you for videos. Carol

I seem to remember being told that iron from the Sussex Weald would supply iron for the cannons in the English navy in the 16th to early 18th century. I seem to remember a lot of the soil around Midhurst and Petworth is red indicating remnants of iron ore.
There was a tantalising blue plaque, next to the coaching arch of the pub! Do you know who it was for? Also the face on the pub door,Jacob Marley perhaps?

Interesting little stroll. I sort of miss being able to explore little towns like this.
They are fun to explore
What a lovely village that wood structure that says fillilwoth on it is very unusual I haven't seen one of those before
Me neither but I gather there are a few of them up and down the land!

There certainly seems to be a lot of iron stone around this area. Thanks James.
Like your hat!!!!!!!
Thank you

There was but it didn't arouse my interest from me when I read it I am sorry to say.
