You're are spot on with the low rpm lugging. My Maverick engine sounds like it is complaining at 12-1500 rpm but when it shifts down one gear it is happier at 1700+. Locally, I've also noticed lower milage due to the cold weather but on longer trips with only a couple of cold starts I am still getting around 32.6 @ 65-70 mph.
I haven't really noticed the lugging problem. I have read that it is good to keep the rpm at 1500 or above. To me the sweet spot does seem to be between 1500 and 1700 rpm. I agree about the drop in gas mileage in the colder weather. Even in the deep south, we have had a low of 19 a couple of weeks ago I have noticed that the truck drives better in normal mode than eco mode. I think eco mode may be more prone to the lugging problem. Overall, I am very pleased with my 2024 Maverick Xl with the Ecoboost engine. It is a fun truck to drive.
