@@jasonsulham1979 I heard that it was mostly due to nxt uk comming up and signing away talents not just from defiant but other independent promotions as well. Honestly, I think nxt uk stifled the growth of the uk wrestling scene.
Ah man Defiant it was really cool. From a guy in the States who had a lot of fun watching some genuinely good wrestling from across the pond, thanks a lot for the good times! Tough business out there for pro wrestling promotions.
The Rampage/David Starr finish was seriously the best finish I've seen in years. Independent or mainstream, the best. Great fucking finish. Well done! EDIT: Just found out you've had to shut up shop. My heart is broken. I love you guys, I love the product you gave us, and I can only hope that, at some point, someone with some money and some sense down the line will watch this pay-per-view and fund a WCPW/Defiant/whatever triumphant return.
There's so much more I want to say about this PPV and what WCPW/Defiant did right. I had no idea who Kid Lucky or Man Like Deriess were prior to watching Built to Destroy '19; the storytelling in their match was so good that, even on mute, I'd watch them go 60 minutes in a cage at the next three PPVs, Flair-Race style. THAT is how you put over both wrestlers in a match, at different stages in their careers, without either coming out looking either weak or heelish. At this stage, they could have a program as a tag team or a year-long feud and I'd happily watch either. Probably the best overall booked match of the night; best storytelling I've seen in quite a while. Rory Coyle's shoot promo made C.M. Punk's first pipe bomb sound tame and scripted by comparison. Although it went a little long (hard not to do when you're spinning gold from straw), I fully marked out. "Bang, bang! I'm shooting again!" sent Austin 3:16-style shivers down my back, and his call to wrestlers who are "sitting at home" to come join "wrestling's salvation" made me think of Scott Hall's "You want a war?" promo. In fact, low buy rate, low attendance or no, this PPV should serve as a warning to everyone else booking shows right now: this is how you fucking do it. These guys, these Defiant boys, they love, honour and respect professional wrestling; they have studied it and they know how to do it right. Take note. This is how you book a near-flawless show. More reviews later when I have the time, as I still have more to gush over this bloody masterpiece of a PPV. Congratulations again, Defiant Wrestling!
This was a pretty great ppv event, and I very greatly appreciate it being presented on RUclips. Some very emotional results, and good match storytelling! Other promotions could learn a thing or two. I quite enjoyed the performances, from Dureiss and Lucky Kid, the Tag Championship Match, I loved the "Ups and Downs" match, despite Cruz snaking his way to victory, and the ending of that World Heavyweight Championship match was completely unexpected and well-done. I continue to look forward to the Defiant product weekly!
Screw David star he disrespected another companies title when he worked a show with some of the performers from said company and the company had no clue what was goin down
My favorite sequence on the night was in the Ups and Downs match, from Simon tapping out, to the surprise rollup (the deadliest move in all of sports and entertainment) to Cruz slapping Simon. Whoever plotted that well understood how to get both men over. Even if Simon did look a little heelish.
While I did have my periods where I fell out I always did love WCPW/Defiant. Introduced me to so many talented wrestlers in the UK like British Strong Style, Rampage, Joe Hendry, Travis Banks, BT Gunn, Ligero, Martin Kirby, and many more. Thank you for the memories.
Once again this has been a great show! Top to bottom some of the best matches once again this company has produced. I've been a fan since the beginning and sticking with it this long has made me happy and not disappointed one bit. Great matches on the card, a good announce team. Just to clarify in case there is any confusion - Defiant will not be returning on December 9th. It was the 4th "edition" of Built to Destroy". Therefore, this would be considered their 3rd anniversary show, although it is their 4th edition. Unfortunately, it was also their last edition. RIP WCPW/Defiant.
