- Raising up the Evolve 50 speaker above your crowds head. Also connecting additional subs or speakers isn't a problem because XLR sends signal and the speaker knows what frequencies to process in their built in crossover.
I saw this being an issue from day 1. I never understood why EV made them so short. I will just wait for all the manufactures to start making light weight powered "line array" tops to go with subs they already have out on the market. Let's say 20-23 lbs or so @ 115-130 degrees of dispersion would be nice.
Great video. I saw another video where the sound engineer was saying EV subs have a crossover but the main outs are hardwired in so even if you change it to 80 or 100 hertz it won’t change it when wired in like that. Have you heard of this?
Thanks for the comment. To be honest I have not looked into this too deeply. Love to hear more.
Hi there,
Great video, just what I was looking for, as I just bought a pair to use with our 5 piece rock cover band. Would 2 15’s ie: EV EKX series subs work well in this configuration in your opinion?
Also would you recommend using the crossover on the subs as opposed to the thru output on the Evolves?
Basically band passing the Evolve system to increase headroom overall?
Great question. The EKX 15 sub might be to much for the Evolve 50. I might recommend looking at a sub like the ELX200 sub or the ZX1A sub. The EKX 15 would work you would just run it around 50% because it is a killer sub!
I was thinking about doing this setup....2 Evolve 50's stacked 2 ZXA1's. I like the idea of the elevated array, but want to know your honest opinion of the sound. When elevated that high does the clarity reflect below on the dance floor? Also is the bass response somewhat comparable to say a QSC Cardioid sub? I'm selling off my HPR 122's + 181 sub, and thinking this setup would be ideal to push past a crowd of 300. thoughts?
FYI I did purchase the Evolve 50's after demoing them at GC and LOVE these things, but thinking about Low end support for larger gigs. Either the stack w/ the zxa1's or getting a JBL srx and throwing it under the DJ Table.
I just bought the evolve 50's and ordered the 2 ZXA1's. Have you ever hard any issues with them tipping over?
Thanks for all your great content.
Do you know or can measure which rca cables is the right type to use as input to the evolve 50? Twisted or coax?
Truthfully I dont do to much with rca jacks so I cant give great advice on that one. We typically use the xlr inputs on the units.
debating on selling my ekx15p tops and ekx 18p subs.. to buy these. Most of my weddings are under 200 ppl.. I am thinking of dropping out of doing school dances. Should I buy another small sub with the ev50's
I just built myself a 6 inch platform with 2x6 wood. It just needs an extra 6-10 inches
How stable is this in a live situation?
HEY JER, WHICH EV SUBS HITS HARDER BETWEEN THE ZXA-1 SUB & THE EVOLVE 50 SUB? OR THE NEW EV ELX200 12INCH 1200 WATT SUB?
I have a 50 and 50 m. I want to add a sub. What would be the best way to connect?
I go from my mixer to 5/6 on the 50m and from mix out of 50m to 50 channel 1.
Would you go out of the Aux out of 50 M?
Jer great video! Do the Evolves on top of the sub move with the bass from the bottom sub? Or is the Evolve 50 setup heavy enough where it is not going to “bounce” or move with the bass from the lower sub?
I’ve got 2 x EV EKX18SP and I’m thinking the bass from them might knock the Evolve right off. Thoughts?
VELCRO!
Do you have a personal opinion on these vs the evox 8 system? Also could you possibly list your own pros and cons of the evolve 50? Thank you.
Kelly Austin I have not done a side by side with the evox 8 but have heard it before. I think that is a great unit as well but not near as sexy and feature packed as the evolve 50. I have not had any complaints with the evolve 50. Some have said they wish it was taller but it has never been an issue for me since it stands 7 ft tall and uses wave guides. The look is extremely important to me and that was really imporant to me. The dsp settings are top notch and make my life so much easier not having to think about technical details. I know you would be thrilled with the unit.
what if you used another evolve and stack that (but not use the array) Would be perfect fit, right?
I use the evolve. I turn the clip light to the front. You watch for clipping on the back. How far into the meter can it go?
Do you go into the sub first from your mixer then up to the evolved 50s or do you go into the evolve 50 1st and then down to the extra sub
I guess I always have done it that way because of cable flow but in this case it wouldn't really matter.
Ideally, you should go into sub input and then from sub output into ev50 input, and use the sub's built-in crossover.
Yo, zxa1 Sub is approx $7oo CDN
Why ha ev not come out with taller poles!? They have short poles like why would anyone use that but we need more headroom with taller poles!
The shorter poles do have their place but yes I think taller poles would be awesome.
Can you explain the cabling necessary for this as, please.
Yes, So with an XLR cable, you will go from the mix out or Thru. to the next speaker. It will need to be a powered speaker that you are connecting to.
djjermusic good video.. but very hard to see.. it's very dark.. if I have a Single 18 can I go from the mixer to the L&R of the 18 and then out the the Evolve 50's ( I have a pair ) one Left and one right..
The Evolve is around 7' 6" when I measured. He is 6"4" and blocking part of the bottom. I think that is actually ok because there is still more than a foot of speaker above his head. EV got this right. There is no need to go taller.
What is needed is the ability to adjust it shorter. My buddy did a basement gig and the system was too tall for the basement. He had to lean the system over. Even with this he got a nice sound out of the evolve.
EV does have a fix for those who need it shorter for a stage height. It's a 14 inch high pole.
You are exactly right Brian! They do have a smaller pole but that is if the the speaker is going to be on a stage or something. I think you can find it in their accessories.
So if I had two 18 subs how would I connect them to the ev evolve 50s that I have the evolve doesn’t have a built in crossover
Two things: 1. What type of sub do you have? Is it powered and built-in crossover? 2. To add an 18" sub would be way to much for an Evolve 50. You would need to dial back the sub a ton and I think it would defeat the purpose for you. I hope this make sense
Ok cool thanks I thought that might be the case. I have 18 elx200 subs with the elx200 15 tops so I just think I will keep those together and use the evolves for smaller venues
Great videos but they are very very very dark ....
yeah sorry we are working on getting a recording area. The shop is our recording studio for the time being.
You need to turn on some lights !
Please see the other lighting videos ;)
What a design fail.... Can't even raise it higher easily without spending more coin!
Put some lights on the subjedt
Video is too dark.
video budget was low..
Taller poles... make them Ev
