- 499 BC, Aristagoras leads the Greek city states of Ionia in rebellion against the world's first superpower, the Persian Empire. This historic revolt last 6 years from 499 to 493 BC, although his mini-documentary covers the 5 years where the outcome was still unsure.

this is a godsend for people who need visuals when learning, rather than just reading from a textbook. thank you!
Nice one!!
What sources did you use for this account? I can't find that bit about Aristagoras' father and I'd rather not spend my afternoon trying to find one detail in the mass that is the Histories lmao.
It’s in Book 5 of Herodotus I know that.
Dank
Cool stuff.
Slight confusion here (around 2:06) perhaps - I thought that the Persians/inhabitants of Sardis retreated to a temple/sanctuary as the Akropolis is in Athens??
How did the Persian commander send word before they reached Naxos for the "expedition"? What type of communication (or maybe transportation) did he use?
They would have had to send a ship of some kind. Not a large warship, but a smaller vessel with fewer crew members on board
