I usually start with these videos that way when I get to class I already understand everything the professor is talking about. Ninja Nerd Science videos usually give me twice as much information in half the time of my professors.

Not every professor is a skilled tutor, and most of the don't even wanna be tutoring. And than you get the situation where neither you nor the professor wanna be there at the lecture.

Just to clarify: overall net effect of PTH activity is INCREASED blood calcium and REDUCED blood phosphate; VITAMIN D causes INCREASED calcium and INCREASED phosphate. This makes sense if you remember that responding to LOW CALCIUM is the key here - the systems are not trying primarily to alter blood phosphate (which is generally much less clinically concerning at abnormal levels).
    Excellent lecture!

Somehow it seems inadequate to just say THANK YOU for this incredible lecture on a subject that is of paramount importance to me. I have been diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism. My doctors gave me an overall view of what the diagnosis entails, and I did some research online, but I didn't really understand the process until I found your lecture. It is so amazing that such a tiny gland has such a responsible job to do! It is also amazing that the malfunctioning of the gland can have such an impact on the whole body and interfere with my energy level, control of my body temperature, mood swings, etc... Again, THANKS A MILLION for sharing your knowledge with us. I feel a lot more confident now that I know the process. I can only hope that when they do the surgery they will find that just one of the parathyroids needs to be taken out. Would hate to face the rest of my life without their help! :)
