I don't care if Spain conquered the Philippines and maltreated the Filipinos. We should not dwell on the past and reconciling with them is such a wonderful act. Viva España. Soy Filipino y me encanta tu pais.
Well Filipinos are more experienced and intelligent today compared to the past generations. A nation who has a strong democracy, an elected president and senators, there are no ways for us to be a hostage once again. Anyways, the issue before was to conquer the nation just to widen Spain's territory. Spain and Portugal were competing for nations. I believe that conquering a nation for a territory is just now an ancient mentality. Neither Spain nor other countries won't conquer nations just for that.

Without Spanish, Christianity will not spread throughout Philippines and it will not be a formal and powerful country at all. Thanks to the influence of the Spanish, we had our own power to lead our country by ourselves.
Our literature that we are studying was composed of our Filipino Novels written in Spanish. A lot are still not translated, like Florante at Laura, Ibong Adarna are all original in Spanish Language. Almost 60% of the Philippine population speak Spanish until before WWII, It's already famous until America promoted English more due to their contribution of WWII and they also promoted the Filipino Language. We rejected a Language that has more significant for us Filipinos. That's why Filipino today
There is another side: Spain give the filipinos what they think is the most important, the catholic religion. They created schools and the first universities in all Asia. During spanish rule the filipinos wasn't slaves but members of the spanish empire, protected buy spanish laws. The filipino culture grow with spanish influence in literature, music, dances, gastronomy, architecture, etc. Unfortunatedly the spanish language is almost erased by USA influence and filipino's politicians. It's a big mistake.
@@3kings278 : World histoy is full of pain, suffering, conquests, wars, slavery, genocides, etc. there was many conquests, wars and sumissions of people in the different islands of the Philippines before the spaniards arrive there. They dominate the Philippines, they forced you to speak their language, they use your territory for their imperial interests, they maintain the filipinos less developed in the region (compared with Japan, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapur, Indonesia,...). wow, so much hate over the spanish rule in the comments. Don't forget that without Spain, Philippines would be just an archipelago of different clans and kingdoms fighting each other. Sure they mess up with forcibly rounding up all the regions in one nation but Spain formed the Philippines (named after a SPANISH king) we call today, hate it or not.
Jannica Diaz How can you be so sure that the Islands are fighting each other? Panay / Madjaas ( where I came from ) is older than the so- called Philippines. If that's the case, then I guess nobody is struggling from identity crisis.

And it seems that u are of happy bein called "a slave of king philip".. Oh no..
Weena Bus Company you are entitled to your own opinion and so am I. What I like to point out is that, whether we like it or not, Spain, America, Britain (at the invasion of Manila), Japan and China (culturally, to some extent) are part of our history. History has its dark times and the cruelty of our colonizers is no exception. There are sultanates and rajahnates that already existed waaaay before the Spanish came (and I guess some of these tribes are relatively peaceful and some do live in harmony) but it takes an imperial power (a not very good one at that, I admit) to round the whole archipelago that we call the Philippines now. However, what they did AFTER is a whole different story. And I don't even like King Philip but it sucks because Spain had us before the Dutch or the British does,,,,so yeah...it really sucks but that means we cannot blame ALL our problems to them :) peace out!
If you know Spain destroyed and eradicate our rich culture and traditions. Forcing their culture, religion and beliefs to us, if they just not force thier beliefs and culture to us then we will still have our pre-colonial culture... Our heritage is not Spanish, our heritage are Malays. Saka kung nabubuhay ka noong colonial time I'm sure magagalit ka ng bonggang bongga!
Our southern islands and the Visayas used to be part of the Sri Vijaya and Madjapahit kingdoms of southeast Asia. They were great maritime empires and their religions were Buddhist and Hindu. In Luzon we had the Indianized kingdoms of Tondo, Binondo, and Namayan run by the Tagalog and Kapampangan people.
Kasi yung espanya tinuring talaga tayo na parte ng empire nila, gumawa sila universities, churches, inintroduce yung christiany at etc.
They have this law but why is it then that there is no aid or sponsorship by Spain that was made in order for this to be enacted in the Philippines long ago. Then we could've at least have 3 National language- Spanish, Filipino, & English.
It is good if we are in good terms with Madre Espana. The Philippines is just a tiny powerless country so having a country from the European Union that supports us is a big help.
We need a powerful country from the European Union to support us especially since we are so powerless againts China. Having the US and Spain on our side is a very big help. Gold ? Spain can get more from her other former colonies Peru and Chile that have more than the Philippines. Peru is no. 5 largest producer of Gold while we are only no. 17.
Muneca japan is a closed country when they lost the war. they dont need support from powerful countries but now they prosper.. can we filipinos do that also? why do we always rely on the help of others why cant we stand with our own.
No we cannot ! You are a Filipino so you should know that we cannot ! Look at us, we have not even started the war yet, but we have already lost againts China because we cannot even do anything to stop them from building a rig. So , you expect a tiny powerless country like The Philippines to win againts the giant China ? Be realistic. We do not have the weapons, the military, the funds. We are not Japan. Besides, America helped Japan as a peace offering for what they did in the Hiroshima bombing. So please be realistic, we cannnot do it on our own !
Sometimes you we just have to accept that there are things we cannot do. What can you do ? Our country is just very tiny compare it to a giant country like China. We are not rich and influential as well, while China is. They are buying many things all over the world like building bridges in Africa and building metro trains in South America, buying electric companies in Europe so that these countries won't be able to go againts them, that is why they are doing many things but no country goes againts them because of their economy that is so so strong and because they are owning everything all over the world. So what about us ? Tell me how can the Philippines fight ?
You know the reason why Spain and Spanish has a great history in the Philippines it's because of history and culture. Spain united the entire Archipelago to become what is now a Philippines and Filipino. They built schools and educated the Filipinos specially during the 18th century, They built not just churches or to convert Filipinos as catholics.
They built schools exclusive to spanish only and no indios allowed and without them, we can still be united later like Japan and China did where they become united after one emperor become the emperor of all. If spain never come, we will be a prosperous and rich country like Korea and Japan.

I have read Antonio Pigafetta's account regarding his (their) journey. I felt, like for the very first time, I was being connected to our ancestors. I wasn't able to hold back my tears but cried when I learned how our ancestors lived and treated indifferently. There's this account where our ancestors showed hospitality and friendliness to foreigners and even doing commerce with them. But sad to say, they suffered maltreatments, was called "indios", and other degrading names. I've learned how the "strong" tried to suppress and control the land where in the first place was not theirs. If Spain give UK Commonwealth member or Dominion-like status Australia, Canada, & NZ haves to PH, our form of gov't is limited monarchy (also known as constitutional monarchy but I use the short term) in which the King is head of state but just a figurehead, represented by a Gov.-gen. here & power is vested to the parliament, cabinet, & a Pinoy PM as head of gov't. It would be "more stable more growth" than today despite the NPA threat. Our neighbor state that uses parliamentary system ended local Communism (Malaysia, Singapore, & Thailand). The economy would be higher than today (search "Parliamentary systems do better economically than presidential ones"), the military would also be bigger than today, PH can also have a navy enough to deter China. King is apolitical, don't vote in elections, don't meddle in politics, & cooperate with both majority & minority (ex. LP & PDP-LABAN). In UK, Queen taxes Brits but she don't tax Commonwealth members like Australia, Canada, & NZ, something that Spain will also follow. Most of all, the country would be more democratic than it is today, Social Democracy in PH? Why not? Note: I'm not pro-Spain, this is just a scenario, & this is highly unlikely given current circumstances.
That's a possibility But we're following whatever the US mainland has Especially in the government, it's almost just like every US state having representatives That's why Rodrigo Duterte pushed for a constitution change To be more Parliamentary than a US copy of politics

VIVA ESPANA!!! MOST PILIPINOS HAVE MESTIZO FEATURE - WHICH IS GREAT !! I LIKE SPAIN, THE CULTURE IS INHERITED BY OUR ANCESTORS AND IS GIVEN DOWN TO OUR GENERATION. CULTURE IS HIGH BREED!!
You are thinking that the spanish way of colonization was exactly as the german (above all anglo-saxon) colonization. Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Perú, Paraguay, Honduras... The majority of the former spanish colonies have few "spanish blood". Filipinos share with Spain, some features of the spanish culture, as in latin america, this is the point.
I'm very grateful that we occupied by Spanish and then was a colony, because they are the way to us to become united, they're the reason why we're united not by their guns, but because of the culture.
Filipinos have more spanish ancestors than USA ancestors. Today if a filipino lives for two years in Spain he will have the spanish nationality. Does the USA give the same advantage to the filipinos?
They actually taught us to learn the Spanish. They didn't touch our language, Spanish was just a medium for all Filipinos in Philippine Archipelago and it's good that Spain didn't touch our dialect. So for me, Spanish Language has a big contribution to us Filipinos to learn and to understand that 400 yrs. We cannot do this if we will not learn it because we studied English instead.
Hacen demagogia hasta de lo que no conocen. but the Spanish language to my knowledge and it's already 2018 was not reintroduced in contrary to what the guy in the video said. unless I'm mistaken and it has been reintroduced.
By those schools they built. Those who started the revolt against the the bad frayle started. So Spain and Spanish language has a big contribution to our past as a Filipino even to this day. So I don't considered Spain as Villain in our past history instead we won't be one country and Filipino without the union of the entire Archipelago. So it's time to bring back the 1st foreign language that actually united the Philippines. If english is well accepted, Spanish had more historical ties to us.

The roots of Filipino people originated in the 'Republica Filipina' of 12 June 1898. even you removed the name, still Spain contributed a lot to become this archipelago as a nation. Removing the name will not remove the entire contribution of it. The culture, tradition, the language, the name of the people. We, Filipinos forget that the Spanish was the language used of our heroes. our revolutionary leaders. most of our history is written in this language.
Its not like spaniards back then really did a huge massacre, but they help us govern our country and named it before king of spain Philip II now called Philippines.
The only villain are those bad frayle and others but not all of them are bad as what the history books tell us. When American took over the Spaniards and Spain became villain in history books. Spaniards actually taught us and built thousand of public schools during early 19th century but a lot of history book tells us that they didn't & that Filipinos never learnt Spanish. Actually they do, during the early 19th century almost 60% of the population speak the language and it's getting popular.
I'm surprised actually so much hate for the spanish people.. don't forget without spain philippines wouldn't be a country as we know of it today what's important is philippines is an official country now if we keep dwelling on the past it will do us no good so i think what's important is just focus on the present and just let it be..

Yep. If Spain didn't come we are still bunch of islands and different countries that is probably fighting for territory. There is something good and bad in the Spanish invasion.
I mean the Spanish Language. maybe, people might interpreted what I was trying to say. heheh... America was brainwashed Filipinos to support all 'Stateside' product instead of local product. We, Filipinos should learn our own history
If there's no Spain philippines might be separated in some different countries or rather part of Indonesia or Malaysia it is Because of Spain Made us who we are now ... created our own Identity among other southeast Asian countries.
I guess probably we don't have luzon, visayas and mindanao. we are all from different tribes and we're not all muslims some are animist. I'm also thinking about other european invaders that colonized most of our neighbors too. Hongkong, Malaysia are british colony, Indonesia are dutch, Vietnam is under French. during the Spanish-American war there was some ship waiting to invade like Japanese, British and Germany. And after the spaniards the USA killed more than 1,000,000 filipinos at the begining of 20 th century. They dominate the Philippines, they forced you to speak their language, they use your territory for their imperial interests, they maintain the filipinos less developed in the region (compared with Japan, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapur, Indonesia,...). Now you may cry about the past and hate other countries, but that is useless. The Philippines need to become a developed country and brig a better life to his people. wow, so much hate over the spanish rule in the comments. Don't forget that without Spain, Philippines would be just an archipelago of different clans and kingdoms fighting each other. Sure they mess up with forcibly rounding up all the regions in one nation but Spain formed the Philippines (named after a SPANISH king) we call today, hate it or not.

So please be realistic, we cannnot do it on our own !
thats the reason why we cant prosper coz we think we are weak.
Parang nagkaroon lang ng house bill during Arroyo's admin, pero di natuloy in Pnoy's term.

VIVA ESPAÑA, SANTIAGO Y CIERRA!
Proud Filipina, NO BODY IS PERFECT,
Muy bien dicho . Saludos
Are loss and do not know. They were brainwashed to hate Spain, but not realizing the that Spanish was used by our revolutionarist. Everything, so I am all out to support Spanish to bring back to it's official status.
muchos mejor, para que yo puede hacer idioma chavacano 100 por ciento perfecto... and also visayan language is about 35percent spanish specially in mindanao...
Espanya y pilipinas contra china
The roots of Filipino people originated in the 'Republica Filipina' of 12 June 1898. even you removed the name, still Spain contributed a lot to become this archipelago as a nation. Removing the name will not remove the entire contribution of it. The culture, tradition, the language, the name of the people. We, Filipinos forget that the Spanish was the language used of our heroes. our revolutionary leaders. most of our history is written in this language.
Its not like spaniards back then really did a huge massacre, but they help us govern our country and named it before king of spain Philip II now called Philippines.
How convenient for them to declare friendship.. but then Jesus wants us to forgive..so lets forgive. Justice is with God
What is up with yam0m0's statement?? It's almost like she doesn't want peace and just want to carry on a war between the two countries.
viva espana! mabuhay ang filipinas.

Estoy mirando desde Filipinas
Can you tell me a country who has never been invaded? You were already in the way of being invaded by muslims. If you are muslim i can understand you..but if are not...then have a look at the history, (not at the filipino books) and then compare the 350 years spanish invasion and the 50 years american invasion or just the japanese one, Have a look at the casualties.
Yep. If Spain didn't come we are still bunch of islands and different countries that is probably fighting for territory. There is something good and bad in the Spanish invasion.
reference before we talk about that
its so sensitive to talk about that because it history
Salamat because of you i am a mistiso
I mean the Spanish Language. maybe, people might interpreted what I was trying to say. heheh... America was brainwashed Filipinos to support all 'Stateside' product instead of local product. We, Filipinos should learn our own history
Gracias Espanya! Visa free to Spain baka naman haha
Ok lng ako.ok klng jn?
If there's no Spain philippines might be separated in some different countries or rather part of Indonesia or Malaysia it is Because of Spain Made us who we are now ... created our own Identity among other southeast Asian countries.
Dutch or probably portugal are the one who will colonize our archipelago if spain didnt go here.
Wow ang bait naman ng España!
viva españa and Filipinaz
I hope you'll be accountable and return everything your country has stolen in the Philippines and Latin America.
More pilipinos are Spanish decendants.
We actually don't know but those were the possibilities...
Balik spanish language sa Filipinas
Tumpak! dapat talaga

andaming tangang nagco comment dito. Pasakop daw ulit sila sa Espanya, Imagine, for more than 300 years, almost 3 lifetimes naghari sila sa bansa natin hindi naman umasenso. Ok tong Philippine Spanish friendship Day. Onga' Let's move on. Pero wag na wag tayong makalimot. Wag tayong tanga.
+RV boyjunior, Thailand was never colonised.
Indonesia was never an English colony but was a Dutch colony.
Malaysia on the other hand was only colonised by UK only for 20 years so it's normal that these 3 countries still have their own culture.
The Dutch, the French and the English didn't interbreed and interact so much with their colonies in Asia which is why they didn't get so much influence from them.
Not the same way as how the Spanish did with their colonies including the Philippines.

I don't know how to speak Español but I can understand it... hahahah
I really doubt it
Justin villar: That is not truth. It's part of USA "education" in the Philippines, a fake history. The spanish colonisation had bad things but also many good things. Today, friendship and collaboration is better for the future of the Philippines and for Spain.
Oo nga pag di tayo nag move on masasaktan lang tayo.

@@MarcusPangilinan : Thanks Marcus. I want to ask you a question: Is Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the new President, an Hispanic friendly politician or he hate us?
@@MarcusPangilinan : Thankyou for your answer. I agree with you, the reintroduction of the Spanish language as official would open huge possibilities for development, not only for the Philippines but also for the hispanic countries. Greetings from Chile.
@@MarcusPangilinan : Hola Marcus. Of course if foreign enterprises own only 40% it is not attractive for investments. This restriction is maybe justified for strategic areas like electricity, gaz, armament, water services... But to promote investments and new enterprises, and business it is necessary to open the economy to foreign investors. I think the Philippines have huge possibilities to progress. I always ask myself why so many filipinos go to work in other countries since the Philippines have enormous potentialities.
If Spanish language become official again in the Philippines and the economy rules become open as in many other countries, I am sure that Spain and other Hispanic countries will be interested to invest in the Philippines and create new business.
Filipinos also may export goods to Latin America and Spain and your country may become a special partner because of huge cultural affinities we have.
The Spanish language could also facilitate tourism, scholarships, cultural exchanges, joint activities like sports championships, festivals, industrial expos, experts summits, etc.
For us the Philippines is like a lost brother.
Some Portuguese also invaded our neighbors. like the East Timor and Malaysia and Macau. So If Spain didn't colonized I'm sure other Europeans will.
Viva Espanya
Bueno...
