I love that I found you, my hero😊, I love how you don’t show off your plants how beautiful but you also show me how you got them there, thank you, you don’t know how much I appreciate you.
This is a great video on alocasia care and you’ve hit many crucial points, especially about semi hydro and hosing down the plants to prevent pests. On the semi hydro part I also want to share that using a nutrient solution will make the plant even stronger. About pest control, I spray down the leaves in the shower twice a week and no more spider mites ever since. Keep up the great work!
You chose 100% the right size "up" for the Regal Shield. Even if it's a little over 2 inches larger in diameter at the top, no one fills up the pot to the brim, so the surface of the substrate ends up being larger than it was by an inch or so, not 2-3 inches, and it's the same on the sides, and maybe a little more at the bottom. That's the perfect "extra" space for most plants.
Thank you for another awesome video. Goden bone is gorgeous and definitely looks like something I'd want to buy if I see one around - same for regal shield, though I do know those get quite large. One variety which has been a trooper for me and unfazed by either pests or underwatering or too little light in the summer when I had covid and forgot the plant lights off for a few weeks (oops!), is Dragonscale (baginda). I also had a Silver Dragon variant, but that along with sinuata and Black Velvet all went dormant during that time. The Dragonscale didn't even lose a single leaf. It's in a plastic nursery pot in a ceramic cachepot, and it's even put a big pretty leaf out while all of this was going on, so I can definitely recommend it as easy (for me, but also as one that takes abuse well). One to avoid is A. amazonica 'Polly'. Those apparently rot if you look at them (not just for me, but everyone I talked to). But, that doesn't apply to A. amazonica 'Bambino'. So while for looks, Black Velvet is probably my favorite, the Dragonscale is the one I'd recommend to a beginner. Oh! One more thing to add - I have learned that, similarly to Anthuriums, Alocasias are more fertilizer-hungry than most other aroids, so one thing mine love is instead of getting the mild seaweed emulsion everyone else gets, they (and the Anthurium supermarketum I mean andraeanum) get the liquid fertilizer marketed for garden vegetables which is a lot heavier on cal-mag and generally stronger (and would make most calatheas throw a hissy fit, shrivel up and die). Anyway, I love watching your videos because they are relaxing, they do not put anyone on the spot, and you explain things well. Thank you as always!
@@EverythingPlants - Plastic pot, a somewhat LESS chunky mix than standard aroid (more ground coir and more compost or worm castings), and allow her to sit in about 5mm of water in the outer pot, topping up when she starts to dry. About 200fc for 11h/day, 20C. Do not forget to fertilize, they are hungry! Year-round, they are tropicals who do not go dormant under good conditions. That's all I did for her - and that is after I bought her cold-damaged for 50% off from the 'rescue' rack, too. Although now I wonder - how is yours struggling? Too few leaves? Too long petioles? Something else?
Hi, I did have a regal shield years ago, I over watered it and now it's in houseplant heaven, they really are challenging plants sometimes, my favorites are the Melo, azlaniii and silver dragon, great video 😊❤
Hi. 👋 🎉🎉🎉🎉Happy Saturday. Great to find an everything plants 🪴 video , this morning. I watched the video, all the way thru. Wonderful content. Btw, makes me want to get a small ikea greenhouse and try a variegated alocasia and maybe a calathea burle marke . Thanks for the inspiration. 🎉🎉🎉🎉. Have a great weekend 😊.
Man thats awesome to see youre getting the hang of growing alos my friend! And youre absolutely right, consistency is the key pretty much. I myself try to stay avg 500-600 foot candles for alos only cuz i tend to shut them off mid day and ON again late night. You gotta get your hands on an alocasia sabrina. Its one of the easiest alo as well!
Your Alocasias are all beautiful. I’ve given up on them. I stay away from them. I’ve had two that died on me. I kept them moist so they didn’t dry out but that didn’t help.
2:00 and here I am moving them around with the light 3 times a day and they hold 6 leaves 🤷🏽♂️. They start in the living room, moved to dining table, the bedroom and then back to the living room.
I killed my heterophylla… sigh no regal shields in our area :( however, my cypress doing awesome since I covered the soil bed in moss, and water when the moss is dry My first “Jaklyn” I transferred to leca in the same white self watering pot you have, she went dormant, dropped her leaves, so I left her alone and 2 seasons later she regrew, however, I used the wrong fertilizer for semi hydro and let the water get a little dirty, and she died, they don’t like dirty water! Is that Golden bone a hybrid of the Cuprea? I’m always learning too, I lol keep trying with alocasias they’re gorgeous

Wow, thanks so much! It's always a process trying to find out what each plant needs. Sometimes along the way the struggle and you tweak the care lol

Hi silly question 😊how do you plant " croms"? Which way is up ,down,?😒
Dragon's breath is in my wishlist . And for me cucullata ( both variegated, non variegated ) is absolutely easy for me .
Good to know! What type of medium do you have it growing in?
Thank you so much for providing these care for my plants…..❤❤❤❤
You're welcome! I'm glad it was helpful!

I bought a pack of metal soil scoops, and I love them! Big one for house plants and smaller ones for succulents. Not sure how I survived before! Lol
Extremely helpful video. Love your channel.

Good morning!
Alocasias are understory plants, making 300 ft candles a good amount for then.
Make a scoop from a plastic milk carton with a handle. Cut the bottom off and shape like a scoop with the handle at the top

Did you take your Pon outside and rinse it off? That will cut down on the dust in the pon.
Yes, but it always has this dust

8:50 wrong name, it alocasia odora bartik (marble)
I've searched for this a few times differentiating between the two.....it was sold as macrorhizza. Thanks!
Man, if you plant all those corns you’re going to have a bunch of new plants you will need to care for or f in bd a group trade with.
I'll probably give them away

Love the Golden Bone! Every alocasia i get ends up with spider mites 🫤 no matter how much I try, I can never get rid of them.
Do you spray down your plants when you water? That's what I do....clean the leaves!
