I’m retired army and a company driver for TMC. Even for big flatbed carriers freight is garbage. Drivers are sitting waiting on loads for hours. I’m glad I don’t depend on driving to pay my bills. Seriously considering quitting next month and maybe get back in next year if it changes. The money just isn’t worth being gone all week, getting home late on Friday and leaving out on Sunday

Started my hotshot business in February of this year. I’ve found myself filling out job applications because the freight/money is just not there right now.

Thank you all of your honest information. I see that there are some people out there that are making content about how much they grossed. Don't get wrong, people should be proud of what they earn. How much are the netting, I mean what are they actually making after they deduct their operating expense for the week and put money into maintenance account. You have got to have a maintenance account. You need to be able to replace your truck and or trailer if needed, that is a major cost.

I'm very close to starting my non CDL hotshot business...
I'm going to lease on to someone...
All my equipment is paid for and I'm in no debt...
My truck is an E-450 V-10 gas powered...
I'll have $25 Grand invested in the equipment...
Of course the trailer is used and I'm rebuilding it now..
I'll be ready to roll in January and I'll be okay with bringing home $3,500 to $5,000 a week until it gets better...!!!
I appreciate your honesty and great information...
You are an awesome human being....!!!!!
    THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE...!!!!
P.S. I'm doing my homework every day...

Soooo what if you already have trucks and trailers? The trailer I have would have to be traded for a hauler trailer, but that would be the only expense going in. My brother has a big ol flat bed hauler, and I would trade my landscape trailer for a 5 car hauler I’d imagine. You’re saying don’t? Or don’t invest huge amounts of money in getting trucks and trailers? But if you already have them, go for it? What about just running 5th wheels and trailers out of Indiana? Or hauling boats since they come on trailers usually? If nobody did hot shot deliveries, a ton of stuff wouldn’t happen, yet they’re delivering stuff still? No one is making a profit? What’s the advice here?

Be damn lucky to average 25 hundred a week little pickups and trailers are to expensive to buy and repair and if they don't last that long a new f250 will be wore out long long time before its paid for you can twice the money working for a good carrier driving their truck

Jr hedershot I agree to a extent hot shot is a perfect time to start. why with certain provisions number one. start with paidfor equipment be extremely organized be reasonable actively search for good brokers keep debits low when your more experienced the economy will improve as it allways does make sure you want to do this don't chase the money. I'm going to start with my half ton 6 cyl 5 SD and my new aluminum trailer this gets me down to 6600 lbs. this gets me under 10.000 gross w/ 3300 car or freight. ive been in the metal roofing bussness for 40 years please let me know what you think?

I would not get involved in this at all because of the cost of it all and the rate of return on after you pay for all of the taxes with holding social security and worker comp and everything else and the vehicles do not have that long of a life span a pickup truck is not built to be run like a big truck before it is half paid for it is wore out and if it is paid for why do this to make nothing wages to many easier ways to make money

My son's a jarhead.🤣👍 I drive for a family run small company but he has a few dedicated customers we haul hotshot for. I feel horrible every time I fill his trucks up in Pennsylvania.

I have an older, but solid truck and trailer. both are paid for, so at what point would you look at doing something under current situations?

Seems like brokers were telling customers "due to C0VID, supply, fuel costs" etc we have to charge more. Then brokers were telling drivers "due to C0VID, supply, fuel costs" etc we have to pay less. Where the "F" is the money going?

  • @juanallen2145
    @juanallen2145 Год назад

Absolutely! We started in Apr of ‘21 and shut it down Jul ‘22. I echo what what your saying. If your considering starting owner operator hotshot: DO YOUR RESEARCH! Get the best truck/trailer combo for CDL or non CDL. Bigger is not better for a non CDL trucker. Be prepared to sleep in your truck. Dispatch yourself, or have your spouse do it. And what little extra time you have, beat the streets looking for direct clients.
Starting up, using the load boards, is a dog eat dog world and they know it. 🫡
