Many iconic legendaries including Ho-Oh, Lugia and Suicune will finally be available to use in Gen 9.

Some will never figure out how to get Ho-Oh in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. But famous player Jim Cool is well aware of the Best Ho-Oh Moveset in Competitive, and even how to Ho-Oh Shiny Farm. Many aren't and never will be. That's just the unfortunate reality of the world.

Scream Tail is the Jigglypuff of our wildest dreams. It has been buffed with some higher statistics and the incredible ability, Protosynthesis. Gen 9 Competitive Pokemon wouldn't be the same without this powerful pink blob. He kinda looks like someone I met in one of my game design and development courses.
Gen 9 Pokemon Showdown is one of the greatest online gaming sites in history. From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
Gholdengo is a Pokemon made of pure gold. He must have done some online business management courses to accumulate all that wealth. Or perhaps he might want to learn how to make money playing video games on RUclips. In any case, he's a powerful metagame force, with absolutely no interest in online game development schools.

Forgot Necrozma Dusk Mane. Though it has the same typing as Solgaleo, it's stats, movepool and ability are significantly better. Should be quite good.
Also forgot Kyurem Black and White. They'll probably end up in Ubers UU

No, according to gen 8 usage rates, Reshiram and Dialga are worse than fu*king SHUCKLE.
Kyurem will lose Roost, unless it comes back as a TM in the DLC. Kyurem had access to Roost via TM in gen 7, so it's a transfer move. So just like Gliscor, who also lost roost.
Without recovery, I think Kyurem will be less annoying and should be fine to start in OU. Could eventually get banned with just the specs set but only time will tell.
Given how crazy high the ceiling is in OU, who knows, maybe Kyurem could stay, even if for a little bit. Kyurem-B however, is getting quickbanned.

I think you are forgetting the buff to his defense on snow with Alola Ninetales + aurora Veil to set up
It’s very likely Solgaleo keeps Teleport. Cosmog and Cosmoem have incredibly few moves, one of them being Teleport. So, unless they’re feeling especially cruel to those 2, I imagine the whole line will keep Teleport
Seeing as Cosmog and Cosmoem were restricted legends in VGC, they'll keep Teleport to have a niche

But which returning legendaries are going to be the best in competetive singles?
Lets take a look folks.
Let's take a look let's talk about kyurem first.
Solgaleo will likely retain Teleport when coming to gen 9, purely because its one of the only moves that Cosmog learns. I don't think Gamefreak will go out of their way to to axe one of the 2 moves from the little puff cloud's moveset, which works to Solgaleo's benefit.
Instead it just makes it impossible to catch one, you just transfer it.
Please never get rid of the opening sequences between the Pokemon. Truly a highlight to my day

Both kyurem and zekrom get dragon dance, I feel like kyurem with its 130 base atk could become similar to baxcalibur with a loaded dice set.
Zekrom was also one of the most scary sweepers in gen 8 Ubers so it definitely could make a comeback. (at the very least its not dropping to UUbers)

Ever since it got Brave Bird. And then in Gen 5 gaining Regenerator. And Boots so Stealth Rock is much less annoying.

The reason why Solgaleo has Teleport is Cosmoem's movepool, which consists of Teleport, Cosmic Power and Splash. :D
Latias as a Calm Mind sweeper was one of my standbye favorite mons in Gen 8 OU, alongside Corvioknight and Gliscor for a core of bulky pokemon with roost and stat boosting moves.
I just used normal attacking moves- I think Psychic and Aura Sphere, but it might've been Dragon Pulse instead of Psychic, rather than Stored Power to force reliance on Calm Mind. It was important to sometimes just be able to hit them without a boost, if you needed to apply pressure.
Classic returning legendaries like Ho-oh and Lugia will finally be available to use in Gen 9.

I think Solgaleo will probably keep teleport. Most pokemon lost it because it was a gen 1 TM and you can no longer transfer those moves, but teleport is one of very few moves that Cosmog/Cosmoem learn naturally
Think Reshiram might have potential in Ubers UU as a check to magearna
ive always wanted to run hone claws zekrom to fix bolt strike, but also the speed boost from dd, now it can just use scale shot
and Hone Claws even helps out Scale Shot being 90 acc

O actually think Zekrom can be cool alongside Miraidon. Mirai invites in special walls that Zekrom can abuse to set up. Zekrom also has Scale Shot and Hone Claws, which will boost its accuracy and guarantee Scale Shot and Bolt Strike to hit, and let me tell you, no one is interested on eating a +1 Terrain Boosted Bolt Strike. Yeah ground types are immune, but then u give Zekrom the chance to go for a likely Loaded Dice Scale Shot with perfect accuracy

Good vid Jimothy, some mons that you forgot to talk about were Necrozma Dusk Mane and Necrozma Dawn Wings. Dusk Mane was a Top 3 mon in usage last generation and I’m sure that it will have another successful generation. Dawn Wings I’m not as sure about in the Ubers format, but it has always found some levels of success in restricted formats of VGC. Even base Necrozma can find some success in the RU tier, where I’m predicting it to end up.
Dawn Wings is in the hell of being unviable in Ubers but clearly too strong for OU. It's outclassed by Lunala. Dusk Mane is awesome on the other hand.
Also tera electric latios y latias with thunderbolt and stored power sounds good.
So many of these Pokémon could have new life put into them with the addition of tera
Even if they aren’t good enough to cut it in Ubers - we’ve got Ubers UU now for them to find a place as more defensive pieces in the meta game (Tera Ground/Water Ho-Ho and Lugia)
Also - with the power level we have now, Pressure stall is optimistic.

I think kyurem is honestly not as oppressive as baxcalibur, as far as the comparisons between the 2 go (I think it still gets banned, however) but the fact that Bax had SD and scale shot and the ice body in snow made it tough. Kyurem only gets a +1 with DD, 15 less base ATK, and no passive recovery
I think it would be really funny (and possibly not overpowered) if Solgaleo was tested for OU. It's got good stats, yes, and a decent typing and good ability, but it's weak to dark, ghost, and ground, and has a poor offensive typing and no recovery. Would be a great bulky attacker with that meaty attack stat and nice bulk, it's not that fast, and gets checked by kingambit and dragapult. Would be fun to see.

Pls talk about Rayquaza next? I just transfered over my shiny Rayquaza from Pokémon GO and I'm hoping that it will be good since it's usually outshines by Kyogre and Groudon.
I've seen people discussing Solgaleo for OU. I think it might just be too silly in terms of set variety + bulk, but it's giving me pretty strong Zamazenta vibes still.
You forgot necrozma, its forms, and kyurem forms. Dusk Mane? Dawn Wings? Black Kyurem? White Kyurem?
As an older fan, seeing Lugia and Ho-Oh again is going to be a treat. I love them both.
I thought regenerator was nerfed in gen 9 to only heal 25% instead of 33%?
Not speaking from experience but just knowledge I've learned from videos, but personally I think Ho-Oh is only going to be as good as the checks to Miraidon are, since electric is its biggest most prevalent weakness (other than stealth rock) and Miraidon has among the strongest electric stabs in the game. Even if you tera to ground for the immunity, that's not a winning situation using a defensive tera on a non-offensive pokemon in ubers.
Poor Lugia man, look at how they've massacred my boi :( Same thing with Groudon, Rayquaza, Palkia, Dialga. They all get outclassed by bike lizards that are obsessed with sandwiches >.

I really dislike gen 8 for really opening up the can of worms that is fast cover legends. Before that, they rarely hit 100 base speed, but now the last four all were incredibly min maxed (where the defensive one if course sucks)
Tbh i feel like the entire speed tier needs to be kneecapped especially with Pokémon with over 550 base stats. It’s genuinely gotten to a point where base 100 isn’t good enough and it doesn’t help that many newer Pokémon are minmaxed to hell with few drawbacks on top of the battle gimmicks pushing things over the edge (with dynamax being the most degenerate out of the bunch but terra is also a bit much because of its stab boost).

Lugia and Palkia have speed as their niche but come with important losses, either in power or the ability setup
All the G8 and G9 legends have optimized stats and the ability to punch through entire enemy teams without needing to even setup

Yeah the Light Trio's signature moves also ignore abilities. Basically has a built in mold breaker specifically for that one move. Like how Sunsteel Strike will just straight up murder Mimikyu.

entei cannot set up, has worse defensive typing and no multiscale. It'll probably be a better inner focus user than DNite in VGC though
Imagine still calling the Gen 2 Beast Trio "dogs". Suicune is a Kirin (Japanese Unicorn), Raikou is a Raiju which is a type of Yokai and Entei is a Temple Guardian Statue. Each beast has characteristics that represent the mythical creature they are based on.

To be honest, I think you're overhyping Ho oh a bit and I don't blame you. I did that too. It might check scarf Koraidon but the bike will just switch gears to swords dance. When that happens, Ho oh just dies to scale shot. Zacian can also go tera water and Ho oh just dies. I also thought that Ho oh would hard counter FUcker Mane but guess what, that thing gets power gem
I do disagree that Zekrom would be bad. I think it has potential. If it keeps scale shot, it might go dragon dance loaded dice scale shot and be a powerful sweeper, outspeeding even Mane at +2
I'm surprised you didn't mention Necrozma. I think Dusk Mane Necrozma will be one of the most influential pokemon because without tera, it completely shuts down Zacian, as long as it carries eq and goes physically defensive that is. Both it and Ho oh will also completely shut down Arceus fairy, which I like because the more miserable fairy types are the better. Without Xerneas to bully, I think it might even go physically defensive
Tera water/fairy hooh tho (it doesn't beat the scale shot without Tera fairy but ho-oh is unbreakable if you are hitting it with non 4x super effective special moves).
Necrozma dusk mane is probably the biggest addition as it always has been, even if it doesn't necessarily match up the best vs koraidon/miraidon
Let's hope and pray that you can fuse Solgaleo to Necrozma
It’s incredible how Ho-oh started as one of the worst legendaries in Ubers in GSC, but evolved through the generations, to find itself as one of the most relevant nowadays

It sounds awkward but in a way stealth rocks help Ho-Oh. There aren't many 4x weak mons, meaning a lot of teams just forego actual Ho-Oh Coverage. If you can then keep hazards off fairly reliably it's a real stinker to face
Mostly because Ho oh had 0 flying moves and Fire was a special type so Sacred Fire wasn't as helpful, but it all changed in Gen 4 with the split and Brave Bird, then Gen 5 came out with a cracked ass ability in Regenerator.

I ❤️ using Tera Ground Ho-oh in NatDex Ubers, eliminating its crippling Rock weakness, and giving Electric immunity.
Tera Ground Earthquakes are so good. And the flying types that dodge it do not want a Sacred Fire or Brave Bird afterwards. Hopefully Ho-Oh gets Flame Charge, I can't remember if it already got it.

Really don't think Kyurem will stay in OU. It's already tough to break, imagine what snow defense boost + Aurora Veil is going to do to it (hint: Ninetails-A can survive STAB Iron Heads). Like this thing will always be behind a sub or with 3 Dragon Dances under the belt, then tera to a good defensive or offensive type and mess things up
I feel like after a certain point, Veil or Light Clay might be the real issue here
yeah, the sub dd set is just too nasty with its enormous 125 hp
Also, it can now lose its troublesome defensive typing and become steel with stab Flash Cannon.

The advantage Bax has over KyuB is Bax can't be burned
But KyuB eats Unaware mons once boosted due to Teravolt ignoring Unaware.

@@airam1721well zacian is made of metal but zamazenta isn't made of swords. Also Ho-Oh getting revival blessing is too hype for them to pass up on as it isn't really a signature move per say.

If Cosmog is still in the game, it'll keep Teleport for its evolutions. Teleport was lost mostly because it was a TM in gen 1 VC and that was it.
Deoxys got it too which might be good with defense

Just being able to use my Lugia that was once shadow in Gale of Darkness makes me happy. I plan to also bring Ho-oh from Colosseum after I win the 100 MT battle challenge with it. I am hype for this DLC
Same dude, I brought my friend's Shadow Lugia that he traded me 2 decades ago up through every single game and I can't wait to bring it up to Violet. Same with my HGSS Ho-Oh, one of the first mons I EV trained in Heart Gold back in the day when EV training was actually somewhat difficult lol.

solgaleo WILL keep teleport. Cosmog learns only teleport.

I don't know if there's any official nomenclature for the new Uber tiers (which we'll likely get more off in the future) but i really love the idea of referring to them as OUbers and UUbers and so on.

@@Dragostorm21yeah, the format proposal was for UUbers, but the showdown mods didn't want people thinking it was a typo so forced it to be Ubers UU.
Of course, the instant Gen 10 DLC releases we'll just get a new clump of ladders: OUbers, UUbers, RUbers...
Gen 11 will make ZUbers a thing on launch and Zubat WILL have higher usage in it than Mewtwo in Gen 1...

Zekrom has already shown itself to be useful considering it had to face zacian in gen 8 and could win if it got a dragon dance up out running and koing a lot of things.
His reasoning was that it’s now directly competing against Miraidon for electric/dragon and why would you choose zekrom over Miraidon

You didn’t talk about the Necrozmas. Dusk Mane has been a really big presence in the past.
I think he missed the Kyurem fusions and the Swords of Justice too
Actually, shadow shield is slightly different. They figured that Lunala needed the dlc privilege, so its shadow shield is immune to mold breaker abilties. This actually is useful sometimes, as it lets it deal with zekrom and reshiram much more easily.
Necrozma Dusk Mane is also coming back, meaning that it will be another great Ubers Pokemon

Solgaleo will 100% still have Teleport because it's a move learnt by Cosmog. One of Cosmog's only two moves.

Suicune definitely better in more gens but in gen 2, Raikou is generally ranked a couple of tiers above Suicune
Every time I hear "Ubers UU" I marvel at how far Gamefreak has come with power creep that there's a tier above Ubers and a tier of Ubers that are too weak. That's no easy feat
It's almost like the number of Pokemon has doubled since the time Competitive pokemon really took off.

I do hope Ho-Oh and Lugia gets a new forme or upgrade in a way. They're the only dual cover legendaries from the classic era that never got it.
Their Hidden Abilities were their upgrades and both are great ones to have.

I hope Solgaleo gets tested in OU. That guy doesn’t even look overpowered in standard play. Would probably be high tier like Zama but not crazy
