      Exactly. How accurate do you need to be at 7 yards? Put a laser on it and call it a day. If you want something maneuverable and short range, it will get the job done at close distances.

    The only thing I don’t like is when I disassembled it and the trigger pin came loose.

    I purchased my Shockwave about two years ago and absolutely love it. I added a 5 shot side mount shell holder and rail along the top with a laser sight and flashlight onto it. I think it's an excellent home defense weapon and with the laser sight, I can shoot 12 gauge rifle slugs from my hip at a 100 yards with a 3 inch spread.

    It's only gimmicky if it adds stuff to something that already works without improving it. The only difference is a shorter than usual barrel and a birds head grip instead of the traditional pistol grip, both of which can be bought and put on any readily available shotgun that is not considered a "firearm", provided you get the NFA paperwork for SBS if you put a shorter barrel on a stocked shotgun. The Shockwave works as a good 12 gauge defensive firearm with a shorter barrel for better maneuverability, lighter weight, and improved portability in tighter quarters like inside a car. There is no gimmick that I can see.

    I bought a 12 gauge Shockwave about one year ago, and this is a real beast when shooting 3"
    O0 buck shot! I'm going to get a nice sling and some grip tape and hopefully that will make it a little easier to hold onto.. I did get some Aguila mini-shell's with the adapter and that makes it very pleasant to shoot. Although some people have the mindset that all you have to do is point and shoot, this is not so, you still have to practice with it quite a bit, "AND YOU HAVE TO AIM IT" in order to make consistent hits. Excellent video's as always , I'm a subscriber of yours and follow all of your videos, I've learned a lot from you and thank you for that.
    Keep up the good work and stay safe..

      Exactly, he takes the shockwave and tries to change it to a shouldered weapon. If you want that just save some money and buy a 500 with 18.5 inch barrel which will suit better for all around. In other words don't buy a shockwave if you just want to modify it to resemble a slightly longer but more practical basic 500.

  • @justice4053
    @justice4053 5 лет назад +24

    Recoil is very subjective. I’ve owned the shockwave in 12 gauge for over a year now and all I’ve done to it is wrapped the birds head grip in $5 rubbery athletic wrap to get a better grip and absorb shock and also installed a rail on top with a Sig Romeo 5 red dot. Having a red dot mounted on this weapon is the perfect sighting system for it because it allows you to hold the gun fully forward and lower away from you due to a red dot having some height to it and also not forcing you to look down the plane of the barrel. With this set up I can shoot slugs hitting 6 inch steel plates at 65 yards all day no problem. I don’t find the recoil bad at all and I’ve tried all sorts of loads in 2 3/4”. I mean seriously..... why wouldn’t it be just as accurate as a regular 590, I have a regular 590 with ghost ring sights and the Shockwave is. It is the same gun with a slightly shorter barrel. The birdshead grip is what makes the Shockwave so compact. Wrap that grip in Athletic tape like I did or even tennis racket grip handle rubber like a friend of mine did with his. Both methods absorb recoil very cheaply. Next, set the sights up properly with something aftermarket so you don’t have to be scared to aim it while holding it when shooting and it’s just as accurate as any other 590 👍

    I see alot of people arguing about why "people should follow the law" and "we have been granted a special thing" with these braces or special firearms that weave between the lines like this Shockwave....when none of it should even be regulated. The Founders were adamant on their views of Gun Control/Regulation, the Revolution was sparked by regulation of firearms...The Constitution lays it out nice and clean that our Gun Rights arent to be touched at all. Its a conflict of interest that the Government infringes on the only insurance policy the citizens have against government and it should be taken seriously....not negotiated away slowly over time.
    The ATF has had many scandals since their existence started, they have committed crimes/funded and armed criminals/cartels and have shot at citizens on their own land as soon as they arrived. They are a unconstitutional agency infringing on the rights of the citizen with unlawful opinions and interpretations. Why anyone should listen or follow the demands of a group that thinks they are above the law is beyond me, the only thing that gives them power is the fact that the masses follows their orders. IF the citizenry stood up against our Overreaching Government and leftist terrorists then we may keep our children safe from the wolves who pretend to care for the sheep they circle.

    • @elgringo5137
      @elgringo5137 5 лет назад +15

      Raymo_2_u thank you! People really need to realize that “shall not be infringed” really does mean “shall not be infringed”. Every time we give our enemies an inch with our gun rights, they take our entire entire continent! The time for compromise is over; perhaps armed struggle should be upon us. Our guns, culture, and borders have been oppressed long enough.
      The founding fathers also said, in the Declaration of Independence, that we must resist tyranny. Now is that time, and the tyranny is domestic. People should be getting tired of being bashed for being white, male, straight, and especially owning guns. In terms of an insurrection, it’s now or never! 🇺🇸

      Its not about being white or any color, its about being an American...the Race Baiting of the Media and certain Anti-American Politicians push that crap to divide and conquer...and it seems to be pretty effective. Especially now that teachers and professors are all pushing the Marxist Agenda, indoctrinating the youth.
      A "compromise" means we also get something out of the deal...what we have had arent compromises.
      If I have a pie and you come along and demand to take my pie, then tell me to give you half....thats not a compromise, I only lost what I had...I didnt get anything out of your "deal".
      To argue most regulation is garbage, just one topic.
      I find it insane that people push for gun control and say regulations and restrictions are lawful or even helpful. The Revolution was started over gun control....2A was meant to be absolute, the people as armed as the state, and a "hands off" description to Government Officials....but they dont interpret it that way...our officials need to read the Federalist Papers and look into what the Founders thought and practiced. The supreme court should do the people a favor and do some research before signing anything that infringes a right of their citizenry. Government infringing on the only insurance policy the people have against Government is a Conflict of Interest...there shouldnt be any regulations as intended. The only people those regulations effect are the average citizen who has done nothing wrong, criminals dont follow the law and thats why after 130 years of increasing gun control and legislation/regulation/restrictions/taxing there has been no dramatic positive change. There is not a crime that you can commit with a firearm that is not a crime without the firearm, just about every gun law is unnecessary, if they want to punish criminals then penalties are whats called for....which would not effect those that obey the law.
      The Second Amendment protects the First and with more and more infringements that target the average gun owner and not criminals it only points out that the Government is out for control over its population and not its best interest. Criminals dont spend thousands of dollars on new firearms, they dont buy high end 3d printers or cnc machines to machine/print out AR lowers, they dont spend hours and hundreds of dollars building their own guns, they dont spend $400 on bumpstocks and binary triggers. They steal firearms from family and friends, business's or get them from other gang members, usually pistols or older long rifles.
      The Tyrants should all be hung for intentional deception of the people to get these disgusting people into power to force their own personal agendas onto the people...when its clear the people dont want it. This is disgusting behavior. When you try to become a Public Servant, you are supposed to REPRESENT THE PEOPLE WHO ELECT YOU and obey the Constitution, all officials should be Constitutionalists through and through- it should be a requirement.There should also be a protocol that evaluates and then removes them from their seat if they confess or show evidence they are against the Constitution or using their seat to implement their own agendas.
      Those who push for this should get the rope along with all the other Public Servants looking to edit the Constitution, or endlessly restrict, regulate, tax or find other ways to implement unlawful laws and manipulate the masses to agree with it.
      This is dangerous and treasonous, if the Supreme Courts "interpretations" will lead to change in how the Constitution is interpreted, while the interpretation is ever evolving, then the Constitution means nothing as the interpretations could say one thing and they can "interpret" whats written as something else and go from there. This is how the ATF has been criminalizing law abiding citizens since their conception and we've seen how dangerous that becomes (See: WACO and Ruby Ridge)
      What the Founding Fathers practiced and what they wrote should be weighed and valued, not how people "interpret" it today as the new age views seem to be radically different than what the Founding Fathers practiced themselves, easily seen in the firearms sector for an example of what Im talking about.
      The Constitution and our Founding Fathers wanted us to be AS armed as the State, that we should have any bearable arms we could want, as a deterrent to tyranny. Civilians owned Warships fitted with explosive and multiple cannons, the Fathers contracted to build the first automatic rifle but couldn't afford it and they were doing it for the people. There were a slew of "advanced" firearms during the time: Puckle gun, Belton Flintlock, Chinese rocket arrows, Hand cannons, Chinese lever crossbow, Duckfoot pistol, German wheel-lock rifles, Rampart guns, Volley guns, Death battery, German axe pistols. They had rifles that carried a handful of rounds also like the Girandoni Rifle that held 22-25 shots. (Mag limit argument). To suggest that the same mentality that civilians couldn't own any small arms today and that the Constitution didn't cover them is preposterous, do you believe that they didn't envision that technology wouldn't advance? If you don't agree with these claims then Free Speech is also limited to goose-quill pen and an iron gall or carbon-based ink if that argument is consistent.
      Richard Henry Lee: “A militia, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves…and include all men capable of bearing arms.” (Additional letters from the Federal Farmer, at 169, 1788)
      Politicians should actually READ the Constitution, and then the Federalist Papers and other readings by the Founding Fathers themselves. How can you swear an Oath to something you know nothing of? How can you protect or interpret it without reading it or understanding the writers views? The Constitution is not a "Living Document that ever changing" and its writings should be seen as simple, vague, and set in stone. This is the only way a Citizenry can be protected by the claws of any Government that looks to infringe in every manner they can.
      2A should be Absolute

    Nice comprehensive video...thanks. When Mossy rolled this out at Shot Show 2017, they rolled it out with the Opsol adapter and the Aguila minis. Probably for a reason. I know for me, I initially bought mine for my wife and daughters, along with the adapter etc. Now I have the brace, and now there are two more companies, Challenger and Federal that are in the minishell business. Point being, Mossy has recognized the vastly expanded market for 12ga shotguns afforded by the Opsol adapter and minishells, and the minishell manufacturers are responding to market demand. I am hopeful someone will roll out 20 ga minis. I have reload minis in 20, made my own Opsol 20g adapters with a razor, and they are every bit as effective as 12s. The spokesman for Opsol said they have a prototype ready in 20, but are waiting for a manufacturer to start producing. It is just a matter of time for good old American ingenuity to push the envelope on what a 1.75" minishell can do.

    Hello, as always, a fair review. I truly like and respect your channel. I've owned my 590 SW since they first came out. Please do an updated review however with a laser site. I have a TRUGLO combo light / laser and you will find the stock SW to be a perfect home defense weapon with just this addition. Please do right by your viewers which I think you always do. In this review you showed a few upgrades but honestly; why not just buy a standard shot gun because they defeat the purpose of buying a SW in the first place. Show real world 20-30 feet accuracy range as in being in your home meeting an intruder head on. Now let them see the light in their face and the green dot on their chest. No need to hold the gun up to your face, waist height and laser targeted. Game, Set, match...............

Although I have yet to shoot it (doing that soon), I have the OpSol mini clip insert in and loaded up with the Aguila mini shells. I think this is a great home defense firearm in my opinion. Sure, a shoulder fired shotgun is more accurate but this is a good option.

    One of my friends has one in original configuration. I thought it was just a cool toy, but his 15 year old ran it at a three gun “fun shoot” we did and I was amazed how well he could fire from the hip. He knocked the steel plates over fine and nabbed the class that got tossed up behind them when they fell too at 10-15 yards. Only targets he struggled with were the clays that came out of a trap house launcher.
    Still would want the brace if I got one to use more like a normal shotgun but I was surprised what you can do with the little thing.

    I have a shockwave with the factory handle and have no problem shooting up at eye level and my wife has no problem she is petite 5'4". You were definitely shouldering it, in the video, that though may not actually change the classification it is not what the ATF intended. I find there is less felt recoil with the birds head than the pistol grip. I would like to find some type of rear sight since the bead and the top of the receiver makes the firearm hard to aim. I have tried a red dot and that works well but is just too much, I want to keep it simple. It hangs (by the hand grip) in my closet just a couple of steps from my bed. Definitely an excellent home defense weapon. I did buy a tec-14 .20ga for my wife but she likes the shockwave better. Who would have thunk it!

  • @richardescareno2433
    @richardescareno2433 5 лет назад

    I think adding the Mesa tactical Leo hydraulic stock kit but use the Gearhead works brace would work better to mitagate recoil. Porting the barrel is must & a tritium big dot from XS sights would be a nicer touch in low light conditions. If you shoot from the hip, a utg leapers bull dot would work well in the build. Great truck gun even with mini shells. Slick!

  • @Tadicuslegion78
    @Tadicuslegion78 5 лет назад

    On the one hand, good size, easy to store in a truck/trailer/small apartment and available in 12 and 20 gauge. But on the flip side, low capacity and you could get a nice full-size 590 with lots of bells and whistles and much easier to shoot/use for home defense. I would probably get one, but as a range toy/first step to getting an SBS. Really the grip is the area I can’t decide if it’s good or bad

    Back in the mid 80s, I was to young to buy a handgun, so I got a Mossberg 500 cruiser, the pistol grip 18.5" barrel. When that's all you have, and you practice, you can get pretty good with it, even hip shooting it. I view this as the same thing, even shorter. Very short range home defense, this may be something to consider. Personally, I'd like to see a light and/or laser on it (with the hand strap because it is there for good reason) . I'd like to see a forward hand guard that accommodates that. Just MHO. The other use, would be bear defense for fisherman in bear country, or as a backup. I think a 12 gauge trumps a .44 mag. Note the Mossberg holds one more round than the Remington here with these new non-shotgun shotguns. There is a solid niche for this, and I have chosen the 590 Mossberg Shockwave (590 has metal parts, not plastic).

    I bought one last year after watching several reviews. I was extremely skeptical this was going to be better than my Moss 500 Cruiser (pistol grip) I bought back in the mid 1980s. For the period of time I was between age 18 and 21, this was my handgun substitute. We used to hip shoot it, and after some practice, got pretty good at it. This is different, and I am still getting used to it. I think it's a great compact close range last ditch bear defense gun for a fisherman in Alaska, but I'm still trying to master this for other uses. For home defense, I'd rather have a full size shotgun. So in review, i paid almost $400 for the really nice 590 Cerakote one, and a Brownells kit to upgrade it would be $370 more, plus SH and all that.. Wow. That's the cost of a totally decked out combat Mossberg Model 930 SPX, which is the poor man's Benelli M4. Sorry, I am not impressed enough for the money.

      One thing many people do is buy a Mossberg Maverick 88 and put a Raptor Grip on it. Very close to a Mossberg Shockwave, but about half the price and legal everywhere-at the cost of a 4 inches longer barrel. Quite cost effective compared to your route.
