This also the song/performance that got San nicknamed “Satan”-because of how he seems possessed at the end. And he’s very aware of it. He’s mentioned it in fansigns and such. It’s one of their most intense choreographies to date. As to meaning....well you caught the references to Suicide Squad. And then how at the end they all seem to be snapping their necks (how San-center at the end and other times-doesn’t actually snap his damn neck in this is beyond me), except Wooyoung. And then in the recent MVs you know how they are all seen asleep at the end of Illusion and waking up in Wave....except the camera never shows Wooyoung asleep and waking up. So there is a running theory that much if the MVs have been like a dreamworld and maybe Wooyoung’s persona isn’t waking up or doesn’t want to. And smearing the lipstick almost like it’s blood....yeah. We are all just speculating in the Atiny fandom of course. But ATEEZ uses a lot of controlling choreographies -where one member’s gestures or movements control the others. So was everything before Wave a group dream or hallucination? Remember too how trippy Illusion MV is AND if you rewatch it you’ll see a figure in the back dressed in the costume of HALA HALA MV. And too you’ll notice in Illusion references in the props to Say My Name MV (which also has flashes near the end of the HALA HALA original short performance video). It’s interweaving. I keep hoping their next mini album might clarify but prob not because mystery. Hah!
Ateez follows a pirate concept. So you will see them mentioning themes revolving around the concept like deserts, sand, treasure, etc. This video, from what I know, is inspired by the Batman series. Wooyoung, the guy at the end, seems to be the joker.
HALA HALA was the video that made me stan ATEEZ. The choreography is insane. Even if it's in your own time, PLEASE watch their dance practice for this. There are details you don't quite catch because of the moving camera that'll blow your mind
I believe this was their first comeback as rookies. When most groups (especially new ones) try to entice people with their good looks, Ateez chose to put masks on and rely solely on their talent 🔥 it was a risky move, but it paid off 👏🏽
ATEEZ freaking kills it every time. I like Hala Hala because every time you expect one thing, something else happens. It makes it unique. I think you will love the new video Aurora--the vocals are amazing and the aesthetics are even better.
"Anybody sleeping on ATEEZ's vocal line... honestly stay asleep, you don't deserve to be listening to them anyway" Deacs went off! Holy shit! Seriously, scream it louder for the people in the back!
I don't think I would mind the pausing as much as long as it isn't mid-line. You're always pausing at the good parts, or pause too early and don't fully absorb the verse😭
i feel like hala hala is the most ateez-like/sounding song they have. i’m all for some easy-to-listen-to summer vibes, but the second ep is something really special and i feel like this dark vibe fits ateez really well
Yay! You reacted to it! Honestly, this is a bit better seen as a live stage. You can see the absolutely wild facial expressions along with really being able to see the choreography details.
I feel like hala hala Is one of those songs that you need to listen to multiple times and then it really starts growing on you. Wasn't my favourite at thé begininng, but now it's probably at my top 3.
I didn't like hala-hala at first but it became one of my fave songs after watching the live stage, demon possessed san and hongjoong is a sight to behold
To get some understanding of this and ATEEZ overall Treasure concepts can be explained if you checkout Bookish Theories explainer vids. She does a great job of explaining philosophies, color representations, lyrics and book theme, as well as how all these themes parallel, to ATEEZ real journey, as rookies and artists. She does not only ATEEZ but many more artists. She's really amazing!!!
FINALLYYYYYY. seeing them perform this live in Chicago was FRIGGIN EPIC. everyone went nuts and even the moms around me clapped after this performance. This is my fave choreo from them but Pirate King is still my favorite title track from them. This is way more my style than Wave or Illusion. Glad you enjoyed it.
i think that hongjoong’a style of rap is so unique, it kind of reminds me of pentagon’s former member hyojong (even their names are kinda similar haha) because he plays with the syllables and the beat in such a fun way! and his voice is a little higher than other rappers which means he can have even more fun, my favorite rap of his would have to be from illusion in the beginning it really shows how unique he is
pirate king and treasure are some iconic ateez songs, since they were their very first title tracks and both have videos. you can really feel the “powerful” vibe they were going for and i think you’ll enjoy it. i know it’s probably on your list already but a push can’t hurt 😂
if you haven’t already learned their names: hongjoong is the high-voiced rapper. he is ateez’s leader and composer. mingi is the rapper with the deep voice that you like. he can seem sorta intimidating because of his deep voice and his height, but he’s a fluff ball and just giggles all the time. jongho has the power vocals and does crazy high notes. he’s the one who comes in with the pre chorus (“deep in my heart, deep in my soul”) yeosang does that “bridgy” sorta part where it slows down a bit (raise me up, take me up) wooyoung starts the song seonghwa comes in right after wooyoung yunho and san don’t have any memorable lines, but san does that arm/hook/shake dance thing right after jongho’s lines (but only the 1st time) yunho doesn’t have a special section in this song, but he’s super talented. he has the blue hair in wave/illusion.
Hala Hala is kind of like the twisted end to the previous music videos you reacted to, as Ateez's whole concept is treasure and Pirates. In "Say My Name", we see that the members are dressed in black and wear masks as sort of their darker alter ego, where their desire for treasure becomes greed. This could mean that the team seen on the pirate ship in "Illusion", fell apart due to their own greed upon finding their own treasure, and turned against one another. In the last scene of Hala Hala, we see that all the members twisted their own necks, leaving Wooyoung standing in the middle. This could mean that they all gave into their greed and perished, or that Wooyoung killed (?) them. I'm not really sure but all of ateez's music videos are connected, so there's probably a better explanation than mine haha
Hongjoong said that they are all connected.and also the line about the footprints in the sand is taking about them filming the video for treasure and pirate king. In which they filmed in the Sahara Desert.
So it's pretty essential that you go back and watch the videos in order to help you understand. Pirate King Treasure Say My Name Hala Hala Illusion Wave They're all connected. In Pirate King they are basically establishing themselves and getting ready for this big journey. In treasure we learn they are seeking treasure, but not specifically what treasure they seek. In Say My Name they are beginning to grow as a group and they want people to say their names, but you start to see their darker sides appear. I personally feel it's about them fighting a battle within themselves to decide how far they will go to get people to say their names. Do they give in to the darker sides of themselves in order to find more fame? Is that the journey they want to take? That's the impression the imagery gives me anyways (there are a lot of shots of the members facing themselves in the dark outfits....especially san looking in a mirror and seonghwa sitting across from himself and taking off his mask). In Illusion we see them on their journey and the song talks about how the journey is all about partying and having fun, but then at the end they open their eyes and wake up to reality (because in reality, all journeys have their ups and downs). Wave is about not worrying or letting the ups and downs in life stress you out, and about finding your true happiness. I could be way off base, but that's what I personally read into all of the imagery in the videos. I hope it helps :)
Yes, they are kinda talking about desert in this one.. And you will definitely understand it once you get to check out their very first music videos "treasure" and "pirate king" 👌 Also, "Aurora" is a music video that they've released 2 days ago, and you don't wanna miss the amount of talent in there i swear😌😌💗
Not me nervously excited that you will love the song/MV in a 3 year old reaction video from a group that you have a whole giant playlist for. I'm a Halazia Atiny. I was Stay first and only and worried about getting another group because they might overtake SKZ. But Ateez really called to me and then that did happen and although I am totally still Stay, Ateez is my Ult group and Hongjoong is my Ult beautiful perfect Captain. Anyway, rambling over. Love your reactions!! I have a lot to catch up on (Yay!)
The mv is inspired by the Movie Suicide Squad also they mention it in the song. The last guy standing / wooyoung seems to be the joker and as everyone knows the Joker Never dies. You looked like vernon from seventeen when you heared mingi rap. 😄 Thank you for the reaction
i posted this under your "say my name" video reaction but I'll post it again. I'm late but I want to explain this MV and ATEEZ's concept and story in general (from what I understood). What does ATEEZ with the masks represents? you find that out in "Hala Hala", they are the call, the desire and passion and love for music, they are the side of ATEEZ that's been living within them for years but only now did it awaken and " Hala Hala" stands for " Hearts awakened, live alive" That's how the two sides became on and started their journey as pirate kings going after their treasure (their debut) and then in "Illusion" when they are in the cave you see a silhouette of a man dressed in the "Hala Hala" outfit. A reminder maybe that they are in the right track, that their passion is there to show them the way. I hope that wasn't so confusing, every MV connects to the other, it's one big story and we're just at the beginning.
@Deacs If you like the camera work here there is a small performance video that’s around 1:29 long. The camera work is good and they actually come out of frame! It’s super cool! Also, check this out! The ending is a play on the Joker & Suicide Squad. Hongjoong made the comparison with both having 8 members with different personalities✓
This also the song/performance that got San nicknamed “Satan”-because of how he seems possessed at the end. And he’s very aware of it. He’s mentioned it in fansigns and such. This video, from what I know, is inspired by the Batman series. Wooyoung, the guy at the end, seems to be the joker.
I definitely recommend Aurora which is my favourite song off of their newest album. I also recommend KQ Fellaz Performance Videos by Ateez.
Definitely,,I agree 👀

I mean I'm okay with pausing to appreciate the details. But Ben literally keeps pausing at the best parts.
THIS
wasn't just me with this then
Yes!
Iyad Naseer every 5 seconds, I’m telling you🤦🏻♀️
"Why is my favorite part of every ATEEZ song always when he starts rapping?" That is what we call developing a bias. Mingi may be your bias!
ATEEZ freaking kills it every time. I like Hala Hala because every time you expect one thing, something else happens. It makes it unique. I think you will love the new video Aurora--the vocals are amazing and the aesthetics are even better.

Rookie Monsters!
i posted this under your "say my name" video reaction but I'll post it again.
I'm late but I want to explain this MV and ATEEZ's concept and story in general (from what I understood).
So this is a prequel to "Pirate King" & "Treasure", this is the story how ATEEZ started their pirates journey to find their treasure.
" Say My Name" and "Hala Hala" complete each other, you see the boys here talking about responding to a call, the little trumpet also represents the call and ATEEZ trying to figure out who the masked men are. At the end of the video they find out that it's actually them behind the mask, but a little different.
What does ATEEZ with the masks represents? you find that out in "Hala Hala", they are the call, the desire and passion and love for music, they are the side of ATEEZ that's been living within them for years but only now did it awaken and " Hala Hala" stands for " Hearts awakened, live alive"
That's how the two sides became on and started their journey as pirate kings going after their treasure (their debut) and then in "Illusion" when they are in the cave you see a silhouette of a man dressed in the "Hala Hala" outfit. A reminder maybe that they are in the right track, that their passion is there to show them the way.
I hope that wasn't so confusing, every MV connects to the other, it's one big story and we're just at the beginning.
also ateez just released a performance video for their new song “aurora” off their 3rd ep :)
@Deacs If you like the camera work here there is a small performance video that’s around 1:29 long. The camera work is good and they actually come out of frame! It’s super cool!
