Once again, this is my opinion on Season 2. I know people are going to feel different so if you do, let me know in the comments. Maybe you'll change my mind

So here's why the demon backstories don't bother me. Although they are meant to humanize the demons and get the point across that not all demons started out that way (there will be a couple of exceptions later), at no point are they actually forgiven. I don't remember the phrasing Tanjiro used in the anime, but at least in the manga, when he speaks to Daki and Gyutaro he tells them that none of their victims will ever forgive them, nobody will remember them when they're gone, and nobody will miss them when they're gone, so they shouldn't fight each other because they're all they have left. As for "where did all the evil humans go", I think we've only actually seen two instances of evil/mean humans causing someone to become a demon. The first was the drum demon, which was barely touched upon, and the second was Upper Moon 6, so I think the point you made about all of the evil humans is a bit of an exaggeration/stretch. Rui became a demon because of illness, not evil humans, and even after he became a demon the humans around him weren't evil towards him. His parents tried to kill him because he was murdering people, not because they were bad people. Plus they were about to kill themselves afterwards as a way to repent

Im not saying that these scenes are meant to make us forgive them, Im saying that the way the stories go about trying to force empathy is handled poorly. Imo I think Gyutaro and Dakis character we’re made worse by the flash backs. I don’t want them to be empathetic characters, they were more interesting without that context thrown in at the end. Thats where Im coming from. And as for the “Evil Humans” subtext, I still feel that using twice in the fashion it is used warrants discussion. Sure the stories of the Demons are somewhat different but they are still not presented in a satisfying way to me. So I have to respectfully disagree

@@JohnnyStar I can see why the demon back stories wouldn't work for some people, but what I'll say (without spoiling anything) is that in the world of demon slayer, it's damn near impossible for a demon to resist the urge to eat humans/not be evil due to the fact that a lot of them become somewhat feral near the beginning, plus Muzan's control over them. Under these circumstances, 99.9% of people, no matter how good they were as a human, would probably become evil and emotionally numb to killing people over time, which is why I think the author makes a lot of the backstories sad regardless of how evil the demon is, to show that it could happen to anybody. This is what makes Nezuko in particular so special, because even Lady Tamayo was only able to become civilized and escape Muzan because of something that we see later on. And as for the "evil humans" thing, my main point was that in the video, you made it seem like SO many humans were evil in this world, so you were confused why we never saw that with Tanjiro's encounters, when in reality we've only seen evil humans in a couple of instances. Plus, whenever we follow Tanjiro, he never sticks around the same spot for more than a day or two (usually spending that time tracking the demon rather than interacting with locals), with the exception of the red light district which was maybe like 3-4 days, so even if we had seen a ton of evil human backstories, it wouldn't be that surprising why we don't see that many evil people when we follow Tanjiro. So to give an analogy, that would be like me walking through a bad neighborhood in passing, and nothing bad happens to me so I think to myself "huh, nothing bad happened to me so I guess the news is lying about all of the crime", when in reality nothing bad happened because I didn't spend any significant amount of time in that area.

My biggest gripe with Season 2 was the insane plot armor the good guys had. Tanjiro continuing the fight for several hours after having his shoulder sliced cleanly through by Daki should've been physically impossible. The shit with Inosuke "shifting his organs" to avoid a fatal sneak attack from one of the fastest demons in the series almost made me ragequit the show.

    Thats what i always say.
I prefer a series that dosnt wants to be deeper or something like that, because in most cases that fails and its a litle funny instead of the serious tone they want.

Different stories have different strong suits and I think Demon Slayer has its own set. But it does not do a good job of presenting emotional complexity especially with the demons. It just isn’t convincing

Before I start I want to ask if you’re reading the JJK manga. I recently caught up and man oh man is it good right now. I caught up when it was on 210 and from there it’s just been great. I know you did one for shibuya so I hoping to see if there could be one for calling games and other events that happen in Shibuya. Okay now onto the actual comment 😂
One thing I will like bring up was the fact that the season 2 demons are the only demons I feel didn’t have this affect.
Tanjiro out right said that no one will forgive them and that the only people they’ll have is themselves. Also the fact that Tanjiro does not kill them shows although he does feel a little bad he knows what he has to do.
I also think it makes sense for Tanjiro to stop and think for the second inside of his head. The anime slows it down for us but realistically for him to cut that deep it was only for a second in real time.
The thought of “This could of been me and Nezuko” Makes complete sense in the story and only adds more depth for Tanjiro character because it’s true. He doesn’t try to lighten the situation or give them sympathy he realizes that if he was there the day his family got murdered, he would of been just like them a demon who kills without a second thought. Which I feel makes complete sense for the demons he’s up against.
No one else in the cast that was there feels bad for them either only Tanjiro and Nezuko because there the only two that can relate. I don’t think it’s bad storytelling, more so just a moment of realism and reflection towards the overall moral of the story.
Also another thing is the evil humans are there! The entire district is proof of it. Yes it flashy and beautiful but if you stop and think about how people are judged and how people are rated on a criteria is very depressing. Even Gyutaro dreams for his sister (to live at the top of the districts because of beauty) brought into modern philosophy is oddly depressing that it just her beauty that makes her advance, and that someone who less fortune when it comes to looks has to starve.
I don’t know, maybe I’m wrong but I feel like for this fight I think it works really well and I think it’s more than justified that Tanjiro has that thought process but stills kills them in the end. If he kept them alive I have some questions but he doesn’t he knows what he has to do and only wants the now headless demons to just rest and give up on being a demon. Because although he hates demons what he hates more is Muzan.
Which is this whole other thing but I’ll keep it brief here. I feel Tanjiro although he hates demons and what they’ve become he knows at any moment his friends can become like that, he can become like that if a demon converts them. Like imagine Rengoku was on his last breath in the fight and Akaza converted him. The once lovable Rengoku would just be a killer. But we know Rengoku as this lovable guy. So I think that somewhat floats through Tanjiro mind and was kind of his character brain process. But the person he would not forgive under no circumstances is Muzan. Because he actively changing the lives of the unfortunate and making them think their fortune like the two demons. That’s the person he would have no remorse for. (At least I think haven’t read the manga lol) That’s the time I feel Tanjiro doesn’t care for the back story nor Muzan emotionally and instead only wants to see him struggle and die miserably to his blade. I think. Like I said haven’t read the manga.
Thanks for reading if you did. Sorry if it kind of all over the place and long but I’m a chatter so it’s shows when I typed about things I found a little cool and interesting. Great video! Hoping for a JJK one soon and also some other cool stuff.

I completely disagree with this take on the empathetic side of demons.
Your argument seems to be "If the demons are shown as morally reprehensible creatures, you can't force empathy at the last moment by giving them a sad backstory"
There are 2 main problems with your argument:
Firstly, Demons aren't morally reprehensible or cruel of their own will.
It's the blood of Muzan that takes the most aggressive and hateful parts of their personality and enhances it to a ridiculous extent while making them crave human flesh.
This is why every demon with the sole exception of Nezuko is shown as a merciless killer with no regard for human life.
Secondly, Tanjiro does have a reason to empathize with them.
He understands how the curse of Muzan works and as such doesn't blame them for their actions. He empathizes with them is because he understands that they're just innocent people who were subjected to horrific torture either before/after Muzan and turned into mindless killers.
Daki and Gyuutaro's backstory was never meant to redeem or rationalize their actions, but to show how love can be twisted into something ugly.

For me Season 2 was good ( the entertaining district ofc) Tengen is so far my favorite character in ds. He's just perfect just like you every time he's on the srean i'm enjoying. But i still don't find any interrest in Tanjiro and Nezuko. I even dislike him most in this season than in Season 1. As always i love Inosuke. Daki and Gyutaro are great Antagonistes. I loved entertaining so much and it's one of my favorites arc yet and it's 80% because of Tengen. So bad he was overshadow in the fight by Tanjiro.
Well, i don't really care about the animation. Fights and stuff are not really my favorite thing when i watched anime. I prefer dialogues, interactions etc
Now For me Mugen train wasn't that good. Rengoku's a good character. Everyone likes him. But personnalily i don't feel anything for him. He's nothing new to me. We have that type of character in every anime. I was sad when he died but i forgot him by the first ep of the entertaining district.

Demon slayer is just ok, the animation carries so if you're looking for a deep story this anime/manga isn't it and that trend you stated is going to keep happening as far as the demons are concerned. it's understandable to want more from a series you enjoy but I've learned to enjoy it for what it is....

i disagree, the animation is part of it, i could tell you, why people cry so much watching rengoku, tanjiro and etc? If the story gets emotional and relatable, is enough, the story don't need be an evangelion or fullmetal alchemist, emotional stories are good, is simple, but is good in same way!
