It is so great that celebrities are open these days about depression and mental health. Makes me like Nikki even more…she’s real.
I have a hard time telling people I am schizophrenic. It is termed by doctors as the "most horrific" mental disease and is largely misunderstood. I take my medication and am stable, as close to whatever "normal" may be, 22 years after being diagnosed. Quitting alcohol had a big effect on me, including reducing the amount of nightmares. I am Cali sober on medical marijuana under a doctor's supervision, it won't trigger me into an episode because of the anti-psychotic I take and helps tremendously.
Many of them are also sad fishing. Like they get sad at times and immediately its a mental health emergency. That kinda shows how messed up the first world has become

Whenever you see a comdien on one podcast they are on multiple podcast in that time frame, so you could see her on multiple podcast done recently. I have seen her on whitney cummings podcast recently I believe was one of them.
It’s funny cause Rife isn’t truly good looking. He’s very strange looking but him being skinny and in shape kind of hides the weirdness a bit. Just wait though…

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the realness of depression that Nikki talks about. Depression has been romanticized to a point where everybody says they have depression but generally don’t understand it and can’t really handle people when they truly have depression.
It’s harmful because it then puts this idea that depression is always tied to some situation and it makes depression just seem like not that big of a deal and doesn’t push people to actually understand it. I have friends that say they are depressed and I always feel alienated when I actually get real about having severe depression. Most people will just say “what are you depressed about” and it’s not like that. I just notice on social media people will make depression seem this edgy thing, but when they encounter people with actually bad depression, they lack any kind of understanding or compassion.
I’m not saying all these people don’t actually suffer from depression but there is a HUGE difference between being stressed and upset about different life stuff and actually having depression.
Wonder if Andrew attempted an intervention after the pod was over 😂. Nikki shouldn’t be so hard on herself. Great episode.

I feel like suicidal ideations and actually wanting to kill yourself are two MASSIVELY different things. If your brain is constantly working overtime and you can't sleep, the idea of what it might be like to just not exist has probably crept into your mind.

wow, incredible episode. my exposure to nikki over the years has been only cursory really, i.e. when she'd guest on some pods i enjoyed, but i'd be lying if i said i ever super actively listened- kind of just served as background to whatever i was doing. but seeing her cut open and lay out for us what's on her mind in such an accessible way made me gain a tremendous amount of respect for her and want to do a deeper dive on her. i think the dichotomy of a truly depressive person is ever-present in this pod, wherein she's both aware that things are good now (even saying she's "happy"), but also talking at length about the darkness. i 100% fully know where she's coming from, as a massively depressive state has been my baseline for over a decade now. as with anything, there are ebbs and flows, where sometimes we feel we're in a good spot, but it's just an illusion we're selling better to ourselves than usual (because we WANT to be happy/content), but it's merely just that; a really good illusion. because the depression is there, ever-present, and always lurking- and letting us feel some semblance of happiness or content is merely just one of the many nasty tricks it plays on our minds. if i weren't more logical and really let my mind wander, i could think this episode was somehow put out just for me, because much of what's discussed is all but verbatim stuff i've thought about at length over the years.

For physical sports there is a combination of having the correct body type, physical aptitude, and the right mentality for the work. For other professions it's aptitudes/talents in specific subjects and then the right mentality for the work. After that there's luck and everything else. Etc.
