Every time I hear a bardcore song, I wonder what medieval people would think of whatever song is playing. I'd like to think that they'd jam out to this one. It really suits the style.
Tis the story of a young blacksmith turned into one of the greatest knights the medieval world has ever known. Tired of the injustices and evils of the medieval world; this young man takes matters into his own hands and assembles the greatest group of knights the world has ever known.
what differentiates algal from other bardcore stuff is that algal takes time to pick the most suiting songs and adapt them as if they were actually played in medieval times and not just a fun remix
There's a movie by Ingmar Bergman called The Seventh Seal and this melody played on these instruments reminds a lot of the music in that movie. The movie is about a knight that comes back from a crusade to a plague ridden Europe and he plays chess with the Grim Reaper to try to save his life.
While I hadn't considered a hurdy gurdy for this song, it fits so perfectly. Which makes sense due to the drone-y nature of the instrument and the song.
Little fun fact of the story within the song "Iron Man". As much as people had believed the song was written about the Marvel character. That is not true. In fact, Black Sabbath had no idea there was a fictional character called "Iron Man" after writing the song (do keep in mind. This is in the 1970s and Marvel's Iron Man came out in 1963). So the story of the song talks about a man who traveled through time to warn humanity of a ravaged by war and nearly destroyed. In hopes to prevent his future from happening. Though the trip through time did not go as planned. He arrived in the past mute, blind, and trapped in his iron suit. As he wandered around, the people become terrified and run away from him. Even as the military show up to stop him. The armor protects him from their attacks. Getting worse and worse. To the point he ends up being the reason for his future. The world is basically destroyed because of his attentions to stop it. And the cycle goes on, of course.
You are a fucking GENIUS!!! Nunca me cansaré de decirlo...ojalá algún día podamos verte y escucharte en el festival Folk na Fin do Camiño, en Fisterra. Graciñas e saúdos🤘☠️
There's a few others I like such as Ghosts of Castillon, It's Winter Productions & Hildegard von Blingin' but Algal is one of my favourites. I especially like Hildegard von Blingin's "Holding Out For A Hero".

I'd love to know what they would have thought of your music back in the medieval days ? I should imagine they would have been mouths agog. Then when the mead kicked in, leaping around fairish.

We'll just pass him there Why should we even care? "Sunless Empire" by The Black Dahlia Murder medieval style would be effing sick brother. Warhorse needs to hit you up for the new Kingdom Come game! Straight fire!
Played this style makes me enjoy and be aware even more of every instruments and the melodies they play, which makes this music incredibly awesome. Thanks Algal !
I love how you rewrite the songs to fit the instruments and feel better! Lots of bardcore is just 1:1 copies of songs frantically played on midi medieval instruments, so I appreciate the extra effort to faithfully create a new song!
Dude, just found your channel and subscribed instantly. Seeing modern rock classics done in medieval bardic style is awesome. Just shared your info with my Speculative Fiction Authors group. They are going to get a blast out of what you do.
Algal is actually a time traveling musician of the old days of yore. Here to claim his rightful credit to songs stolen from him by other time travelers!
Song plays as a fully armoured knight steps into the town square to confront the bandits harassing his peasants. (Lifts poleaxe) “Thou should be running”
hear ye, hear me! I am an iron monger hath ye lost yer mind couldst thou see or art thou blind couldst thou walk the road to camelot or, if thou venture wouldst thou fall?
Hi, What you do is fantastic ! I love the songs you play, good choice.. I don't know all of them but like it at the first earing, it's rare... I'm listening the most I can do. THANKS again Lolilo
Lack of electricity is not a reason to stop playing metal!
Just a reason to play more.
There is no reason to stop playing metal 🤘
metal was invented by the bard's friend: Ozbourne the Blacksmith
Van Canto - "instruments aren't required also".

Listen to Medieval Babes, they record the real stuff. This doesn't sound a lot different, the same notes and the instruments would be familiar.
Being into bardcore back in the ye' ol' day was pretty rough. If your parents caught you they burnt you at the stake.
A lot of actual medieval music actually sounds like this. Ad Mortem Festiamus comes to mind.
Probably they would burn the bard in pyre
Every time I brush my teeth, I wonder what medieval people would think of what I was doing.
For some reason, Iron Man sounds VERY much like it belongs in late medieval, early renaissance.
Chord progression and tempo

for the future of mankind?
He also dies defending the land from the evil lord Thanos

Yes!! I’m so envious of your incredible collection of instruments. The hurdy gurdy is perfect for this!
All it needs is vocals!
@@braedenkraft-rudolph577 called it!
Let's all hint really hard that "iron man" could mean "knight" and Hildegard could adapt the lyrics to ye olde english words and themes.

The movie is about a knight that comes back from a crusade to a plague ridden Europe and he plays chess with the Grim Reaper to try to save his life.
Imagine a knight riding in with this as backup music. Epic cover my good man.
The Hurdy Gurdy is an official heavy metal instrument ❤️😍
While I hadn't considered a hurdy gurdy for this song, it fits so perfectly. Which makes sense due to the drone-y nature of the instrument and the song.
If your cover music was played in medieval times, they would say it's a masterpiece.
Or it would be what sorcery is this
He would probably be burned at the stake
As long as the vocals were left out. If the lyrics were included it would be "What demon possessed you to do this!" Excellent covers though!
Imagine Iron Man being trapped In the middle ages, The locals there would be like "what witchcraft is this!?“
This wonderful musician. He can play so many instruments sooooo well!. Then he brings out the HURDY GURDY! FABULOUS. I love the styling.
Awesome! The Hurdy Gurdy drone is the perfect timbre for this song. Great arrangement.

What an amazing rendition of Iron Man. My jaw dropped all the way through.

Algal...
1. Made me get into bardcore
2. Made it so that I couldn't listen to any other bardcore - especially the cheap remixes
There's a few others I like such as Ghosts of Castillon, It's Winter Productions & Hildegard von Blingin' but Algal is one of my favourites. I especially like Hildegard von Blingin's "Holding Out For A Hero".
You're definitely a Jethro Tull fan. Minstrel-Rock.... Love it!
in the 80s , we learned very different lyrics in school......
Once again what an incredible a arrangement. This is what i call talent.
The hurdy-gurdy really puts it over the top.
I've heard the riff on Hurdy Gurdy and have wanted a full version ever since. This is totally awesome
Iron Man wore a suit of knights armor back in those days. This actually sounds fitting for those times for sure! Medieval Metal!
The song to play when the knights in full plate armor head out to their horses for a joust.
Ozzy would be proud of you man
The fact that you do covers of the songs I love makes me soo happy as a fantasy nerd.

This reminds of the Episode of Metalocalypse were the band summons a lake troll. "Granpas guitars" are totally Metal. I dig it!
I love Black Sabbath, and I love this cover.
I am The Black Knight!
Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all
Or if he moves, will he fall?
Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
We'll just pass him there
Why should we even care?
He was turned to steel
by the wizards' magic field
When he traveled to fight
For the future of the kingdom
Nobody wants him
He just stares at the kingdom
Planning his vengeance
That he will soon unfurl
Now the time is here
For The Black Knight to spread fear
Vengeance from the grave
Kills the peasants he once saved
Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge
Heavy boots of lead
Fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they horses
The Black Knight lives again!
Absolutely love these covers!
