Rick Beato brought me here 2 - 3 years ago due to his appreciation of you, your creativity and knowledge. I'm classically trained, from a musical family, play trombone, a little piano and self-taught, badly executed Ukulele (which delights me to no end - I can play chords in 4 fingers!). I love your creativity, your intelligence, strength as a musician and human. I haven't seen you in awhile, and your name came into my head today, and here I am. I love who you are, your fun "Flowers" video, your explanation of how much work it is for you to create a video (those of us who don't do this for a living have no real idea what it takes for you to build these lovely pieces for us). I loved your John Mayer song ending (that was SO much fun!!) I love your humanity, personal strength and introspective nature. Thank you for your authenticity and such things as this lovely video. Thank you. Thank you for showing up as you. Your contribution and personal considerations such as this, are important and so human. I love your work, who you are, and your contribution to the world. Blessings to you, Mary. All love, wishing you the best and the highest to you. 💖

When I was growing up, it was in the era of albums. The joy of going to the record store, buying an album, bringing it home and listening to song by song by song while looking over the album cover (its details) and the liner notes.
I would hear the songs played on the radio with the introductions by the DJ's. I would sit in front of the stereo and record songs off of the radio with the reel to reel and then the cassette recorders to make my form of "mixed tapes".
I remember my 1st CD in 1980. I was so excited for the new, great sound and dynamic range.
I have been fascinated through your observations of how the industry has changed and what a struggle it is to get your music out there for the fans to hear. I have a huge appreciation for musicians and their skills. I grew up in the time of those musicians doing amazing craft with their instruments. So many. But one for sure I still admire to this day is Mark Knopfler. His skills are amazing. And because of that, I have enjoyed your educational videos of how method of playing. You certainly make it all look so easy.
I cannot remember when I 1st subscribed or which was the 1st video I watched. I do know I was a fan from the get go when I found your stuff. Thank you so much. Much Aloha. I am totally enjoying your CD I received in the mail.

Hi Mary, found your channel by algorithmic chance, and I really appreciate your down-to-earth style and calmness. Artists, esp. musicians will stay relevant. Things will shift, surely. But those who care about and want to connect to real people will seek the originals, not the generates.
And those who don't care are already diverted to the mainstream cash cows since the advent of broadcasting. Which contributes to the all encompassing homogenization of mainstream content. It feels exchangeable and mass produced. And thats next door to "liveless" generated content from AI.
When I still can see the artist within or behind the art, I can relate to it. That makes it relevant.
I'm an older guy who enjoys the luxury to create music as a leisure time thing. As it is Midi based stuff, I even don't qualify as artist (at least I was told 😊). And my type of music making is already completely taken over by AI... so I'm sure I could create better results if I would loop prompt my way to a pleasant song. But is it still my result? Surely not. It's a creativity ghost synthesized from the creations of millions. My contribution is near zero.
When I create "my stuff" I decide upon every note, every timing, every patch, every automation. I can fret hours over a synth pad, until it sounds "right". That's all me. AI can surely surpass me, because it can tap on the ability of hundrets and thiusands of great artists. But it cannot replace me - at least not for those who care...
And that will be the key for all of us... tend to those who care.
    Just my 5 cents...

The first video of yours I viewed (a couple of months ago) was 'The Truth Behind Cover Songs On RUclips'; it popped up on my RUclips homepage and the title piqued my interest. I viewed a few more over the next week or so and then subscribed in direct response to seeing 'Cassette Tapes. The Future Of Music?'. It's great to hear you are able to earn a living doing this and seeing you explain how you do it was a lightbulb moment for me.

I first came across your channel about 4 years ago during a random search of guitar related content. I had recently retired and was hoping to partially fill the void by unearthing the old guitar in my closet, which I had taught myself to play when I was a 12-year-old kid in NYC fascinated with the first wave of the British invasion but had mostly abandoned to the hungry beast of a corporate career. I found your videos compelling and I’ve continued to frequent your channel over the years because I love what you do and the honestly and commitment with which you do it.

I think it's reassuring to know that it's ok to feel worried from time to time as we try to find our places in the music industry, so long as we keep moving forward, and hold on to the drive we have for following our passion.

I landed on your channel by searchiing fingerpicking artist. Your style and your sincere expression of your craft is why I've stayed a subscriber. I'm 66 years old, retired and playing bass guitar (after a 39 year hiatus) and guitar (a 29 year hiatus) again. I'm writing a playing again because of people like you. I don't write songs for money. At my age, I realize that my *ultimate* retirement will come sooner than later. So, I'm writing to leave something for my children and grandchildren, my friends and, I suppose, for folks like you who've been an inspiration. Post-thyroid surgery, I can't sing very well but I try. If you're curious, search for "Circles in The Rain" by The Simian Grip Collective featuring Curtis Dunlap--that's me, I'm the only band member. Thank you for inspiring this old codger to play finger style.

I am currently using RUclips as my radio station for probably the last 10 years or so. As with several others here I found you through Rick Beato. I think it was the video where he and Rhett were analyzing your song that I think was called The Great Wave. I noticed that about halfway through that Rick was moved emotionally as I was also. I thought to myself this girl really has something authentic and beautiful. I have always enjoyed stretching my understanding of music and between Rick Beato, The Daily Doug, The Charismatic Voice, and you, Mary I have been enriched to an incredible degree. And just as you stated RUclips is not a frivolous hobby for me either. All of this has helped me cope with the 5 different cancers that wife has been enduring for the last 15 years. From a much appreciative heart I say thank you so much for being who you are and making a valid contribution to my music world!

Frogleap with Leo was the reason I subscribed! Don’t be afraid of failure. I graduated with a print journalism degree and sent my resumê to dozens of newspapers including my local only to be rejected by all of them. Fall of 2001 a former high school English teacher hired me as her administrative assistant only to fire me after 9/11 because 65% of her clients left for fear of profiling. I did manage to work as a PA announcer for four sports at two colleges and spent my first year post-grad working for the athletic department as their first ever assistant sports information director only to be after a year citing budget cuts. Ironically, the guy who took over was the same guy I had been a boss for when I did the post-grad job. He spent 15 years in the position. Hang in there. Failure can breed strength of character if you channel it to your own needs!

I started guitar lessons when I was 10 - 63(!) years ago now - with a guitar rented from the teacher. The action was high and tight, with frets so scratchy and sharp that my fingers would literally be bleeding after an hour of practice. I didn't know any better - I figured all guitars were like that. It was a revelation when I finally saved up enough paper route money for a proper instrument.
I stopped the lessons after just a few months, but I kept playing and getting better - not what I considered good, but I could usually hold my own. I dabbled in bands through high school and college, and even acted and played guitar on stage in several amateur theater productions.
About 10 years ago, I started developing osteoarthritis in my hands. The disease in my left hand, especially the thumb, has progressed to the point where it can be quite painful, and occasionally impossible, to play. But playing still gives me joy, so I pick up a guitar as often as I can - I've got to keep the instruments, and my fingers, exercised!
I learned of you from Rick Beato's channel 18 months or so ago. I don't know why it took me so long to subscribe to your channel, Mary, but I'll be back often. Thank you for your musicianship and calming presence - I truly appreciate both.

Hey Mary, this is a special one!
Ok- My name is Ralf Falk, born 1952, I am sort of an artist ( I play guitar mostly Blues and Jazz, slide, lapsteel, bass, plectrum and fingerstyle, I sing, write my own songs, do my own recordings, even build my own studio mics, make my own guitars from scratsch make my own amps and a lot of other things too, my first radio apearence was somewhere in the early seventies, I`m selftaught in most of the things I do but have trained my classical guitar skills by going to music highschools for 6 years) and I`m from Germany, living in the aria around Cologne. I had the great opportunity to be asked to play with quite a few of the old Blues masters that came across Germany during the sixties.
I can`t really remember when I first sort of fell over one of your vids, but it feels like this was really some time ago. I do remeber why I stopped and watched: there was someone seriously talking about something I was interested in. From the very moment of the beginning of my listening up to the end I never felt uncomfortable or neglegted. There was somone I believed in talking serious as can be. This was the point!
I highly apperciate the way you are argumenting and your choise of words in my ears is stunning. Maybe this depends on my way of talking which for me sounds kinda stumbeling. What I want to say is, I allways seem to can trust you. That is something special to me these days. I like to apollogise me for not having the time to leave you a comment and not having the money to serve as one of your patreons.
Now let me please say a few words about the actual song you`d just played:
The way you start it, I find it very interesting but hard to master musically, a great compliment at this point. But there is a little grain of salt: Please don`t get me wrong, it`s not up to me to critisize any thing you do with your own songs. Well, I felt sort of got a glimpse that you`r allone most of the time you are working on that song. Maybe you like to check up the tempi you use once again.
This could make the feeling a little more content and smooth. What I really would like to hear is some swing as a constant part of the used groove in order to make the funkyness really fit in. This a thing I find in my playing too sometime, when I yust played the song all by myself during the working procsess. Maybe you can call a friend to play with once or twice, this might help. I´m not saying you played wrong or bad, but I feel it could be a little more snappy. These funky stopps and the like should be real funky I guess and I hope you can get the Idea. Please don`t feel too much concerned, it`s a good song anyway and seems to be very personell too.
I am not the one to complain about your lyrics, `cause I`m not a native speaker. I think there might be a lot that you could tell me about my kinda speech.
I`m just an old guy talking music and listen to some hopefully good songs. Sometime I I`ll play a little ( as you can see on my RUclips Channel) but that`s no big deal as you can find out. I seem to be not clever enough to make my channel grow, anyway.
I do not have any contacts to the big people in the buissiness and everything changed even withe the small ones too. But there is still a few things I feel I could tell others to get them some help. If you would like to know something about a topic you think I can help you with, feel free to let me know.
I think I`d like to see you live but cant afford it. So good luck on your tour and have the most fun of it.
I know I`ll see you very soon right here.
    Ralf
p.s.: please forgive my unsorted speech and my mistakes if you ´d pleased

"Cassette tapes, the future if music?" Was the first video I saw due to its intriguing title. I heard about cassette tapes making some type of comeback, specifically with Sony's new and very expensive "walkman", but I never thought it would ever make an actual mainstream comeback. I found you through a search I did regarding how to make money as a musician.
I’m a vocalist, have been a singer for as long as I can remember but until 3 years ago, I was just a fun singer- karaoke on occasion. Everyone always said I should do something with it but never was able to as I was a wife, mother, foster mother, then a cared for my late husband before he passed. That was my trigger…. Losing my soulmate! He wanted me to do this and I know he’d be proud.
I’ve always wanted to make music, now I can.
I have time for me. And when I sing, it’s soothing, it’s the only thing that eases my heartache.
I now sing in hospitals, special care facilities, hospices and retirement villages, i gig in the weekend as a soloist, in a duo with a good friend, and at times I join a couple of bands to add some female vocals for their predominantly male sound.
Love doing what I’m doing but although I can play guitar, I don’t play well or enough… to play a gig.
I need to learn to play better and more songs so I can be independent without using tracks.
I love your voice… and to you play guitar like I can only dream about! But Im wiling to learn, both guitar and to be patient ha ha… I know it won’t happen overnight no matter how much I want it!
I live in New Zealand so cannot attend your tour! But I would love to if I could!
Come to NZ some time! I’ll put you up and show you around ha ha (save as much as possible and spend as little as possible 😂)
I’m listening to your advice, and doing what I can to just sing!!! as much as I can wherever I can!
I might be in my 40s but I’ve got nothing holding me back now.
Thank you for your videos, your music and your inspiration!!
    Wendy Wiparata
    Christchurch, New Zealand.

How I re-found you: somebody dropped your name in the comments in a Tora DAA-Video, and then I remembered a video about a special guitar-restauration-company you made. I'm 56 now. I had an enlightning week when I was 16 in school: some kind of a "project week"; a band. Two music-students started with us a percussion-circle each student playing a short easy to learn rythm that build up such a cool groove with 20 students. I will always remember this percussion-circle. They guided us to learn "black magic woman" from santana. This experience shines in my heart until today and always will. Used to play trumpet in my youth and a little bit piano. Bought an electronic drum-kit two years ago having so much fun learning and practising it. I am working as a math-teacher for 17 years now. Yesterday I had a very creative evening with writing a german text to the song
"beast of burden" titeled "Über alle Hürden" ("over all hurdles")
that encourages students to "take the hand and try" "I believe in you" "believe in youself"
I would not call myself a real songwriter but what a great experience to write this text because it went pretty well.
There is a different aspect about your videos. I will recommend your video as a suggestion for practising listening to english. Hopefully that the students will find it interesting and enjoy listening to you. You are genuine presenting yourself as a real human beeing, beeing human. Go on doing your thing.
