Arsenal really need to do serious introspection on their sales especially when it comes to Goalkeepers. Martinez and Leno were sold for a combined 24 million. Two first choice keepers sold for 24 M is atrocious. Especially when u see how those transfers directly lifted the level of their respective teams.
What concerns me is historically we've been awful at getting value from player sales and we've supposedly been structuring to insulate against this going forward. Other than players we wouldn't want to sell and academy players I don't see a profit in any of the potential sales.

Over the previous two seasons Newcastle's revenues barely covered wages and their amortization costs are fairly significant. Their losses in the 22-23 season were more than double the average annual threshold. So unless they've turned an astronomical profit this season they still have profit and sustainability concerns, and with no European football next season the new sustainability rules will if anything be more of a problem for them.

Viera cost 30M transfer fee based largely off potential, well the 'potential' is dimmed if he's not good enough for Arsenal so whose going to pay that? Both totally different and great in different aspects. ESR has better work rate and also a more direct player. Dribbling is sublime and clinical when on form. Viera more technical, really good in the final third similar to Odegard when he’s on form. ESR more like Saka while Viera more like Odegard.

I think ESR offers something we lack and need, and he seemed to be hitting his stride again toward the end of the season. A good carrier who can make strong diagonal runs, is good in the air and can make good shots from just inside the area. Arguably this is what we bought Havertz for but he's ended up being pushed forward.
Partey is still great (albeit having dropped a yard of pace). He's super progressive with his passing and we looked so much more solid at the end of the season with him. I'd take the risk and actually extend his contract. With a break over the off-season and good pre-season he could be pretty fresh for us.
If we can't get a decent fee for Partey we should keep him. We really need to win something next season and we get Bruno G to be part of that midfield of Rice Odegaard Jorginho and Partey. It's very difficult to get past City and we shd keep our very best and strengthenn
Where are those people who said Ramsdale is better than Raya? Many thought Arteta is doing Raya a favor that he doesn’t deserve. Ramsdale has a learned a lot from Rata if he wants to play for the top modern teams. Otherwise he’s headed to average clubs to have a quiet career. He should stay on at Arsenal and work hard to improve his authority on the ball and his positioning ability on crosses. These are the two glaring weaknesses he has. 1v1 and shot stopping he’s miles ahead of Raya. But saving like that will not be required more than footwork and ability on crosses because rarely will teams have the ability to shoot at goal if you play the way Arteta’s team plays in the first place. Arterta did well to sign Ramsdale long term, securing his spot and showing that he believes in him. All outfield players have been through the same things. Jesus, Martinelli, Trossard, Nelson, Soares, Elneny, Tierney… Ramsdale’s dad talked too much and brought unnecessary attention on his son early on. Imagine if all parents of the previously mentioned players also did that! Coaches would not be able to do their work. I think our disappointing domestic cup runs this year really hurt Ramsdale's value. I say we keep him through the fall and give him all the cup starts. If he plays well in those starts, we should get a 30m offer in the January window.

I was actually pondering the other day on whether Arteta could be handling these situations better than just freezing players out. This is NOT a criticism James just a question since I’m very curious; why doesn’t any Arsenal content creator talk about the likes of Patino, Norton-Cuffy, Mika Biereth etc.? Patino literally got benched since Christmas. When you can’t get into to a bottom 3rd championship team it’s time to go. 14 starts in a 46 game season is not positive. Too many people buy into the hype. Does nobody remember how long between Ashley Cole to Wilshere was? And further Wilshere to Saka. Not every academy kid is going to play for the first team. In a vacuum, yes, if a player is valued less by his current squad, he would be sold for less, but i think whats much more important is the number of buyers and sellers. Im making this scenario up, but if there are only 3 serviceable starting gk available on the market, and 5 clubs are wanting to upgrade their goalie, then it doesnt really matter howuch we value ramsdale, because we can have 2 or more teams bidding against each other. The fact that he was on our bemch wont matter as much, and he will be sold at a higher price. But if there are more goalies available then there are teams needing a goalie, then i agree that his value decreases because he was on our bench. Players like Viera and Lokonga are disappointing. They just don’t apply themselves in my opinion. There is a report i saw some days ago, that Mikel is not happy with Viera’s application in training. I am not surprised really, if you saw him play for the U21 when he recovered from his injury the summer he was signed, you will not be either. You could argue that he was returning from injury but he just couldn’t be bothered. There is a reason his cameo against Fulham was praised because it’s the first time he played like he wanted it. It is especially frustrating because he’s actually quite good when turns the burner on. Compare his cameos and starts with Emile’s and the contrast is night and day. That’s more frustrating considering we are most likely going to lose Emile.

Both totally different and great in different aspects. ESR has better work rate and also a more direct player. Dribbling is sublime and clinical when on form. Viera more technical, really good in the final third similar to Odegard when he’s on form. ESR more like Saka while Viera more like Odegard.

I think ESR offers something we lack and need, and he seemed to be hitting his stride again toward the end of the season. A good carrier who can make strong diagonal runs, is good in the air and can make good shots from just inside the area. Arguably this is what we bought Havertz for but he's ended up being pushed forward.

Partey is still great (albeit having dropped a yard of pace). He's super progressive with his passing and we looked so much more solid at the end of the season with him. I'd take the risk and actually extend his contract. With a break over the off-season and good pre-season he could be pretty fresh for us.
If we can't get a decent fee for Partey we should keep him. We really need to win something next season and we get Bruno G to be part of that midfield of Rice Odegaard Jorginho and Partey. It's very difficult to get past City and we shd keep our very best and strengthenn

Where are those people who said Ramsdale is better than Raya? Many thought Arteta is doing Raya a favor that he doesn’t deserve. Ramsdale has a learned a lot from Rata if he wants to play for the top modern teams. Otherwise he’s headed to average clubs to have a quiet career.
He should stay on at Arsenal and work hard to improve his authority on the ball and his positioning ability on crosses. These are the two glaring weaknesses he has. 1v1 and shot stopping he’s miles ahead of Raya. But saving like that will not be required more than footwork and ability on crosses because rarely will teams have the ability to shoot at goal if you play the way Arteta’s team plays in the first place.
Arterta did well to sign Ramsdale long term, securing his spot and showing that he believes in him. All outfield players have been through the same things. Jesus, Martinelli, Trossard, Nelson, Soares, Elneny, Tierney…
Ramsdale’s dad talked too much and brought unnecessary attention on his son early on. Imagine if all parents of the previously mentioned players also did that! Coaches would not be able to do their work.

I think our disappointing domestic cup runs this year really hurt Ramsdale's value. I say we keep him through the fall and give him all the cup starts. If he plays well in those starts, we should get a 30m offer in the January window.

I was actually pondering the other day on whether Arteta could be handling these situations better than just freezing players out. Their value really does drop because everyone knows we don't want these players. Some of the cases seem extreme because Ramsdale is not an awful keeper at all but not playing him makes it seem that way. Not playing ESR at the back of a Man of the match performance is also quite puzzling. Why do you think he approaches moving on from players this way?
Agree with most of the price tags barring ESR. I love the guy but the fact is, he simply hasn’t been the same since the injury a season and a half ago. So 40 mil for him might be expecting too much, around 25 mil seems more realistic. I’d also put Reiss closer 20 mil.

3 of those players have a bad injury record with the 4th, Ramsdale, probably not happy to remain a backup keeper. Partey, Jesus and ESR dont improve the bench when they're in the physios' room

This is NOT a criticism James just a question since I’m very curious; why doesn’t any Arsenal content creator talk about the likes of Patino, Norton-Cuffy, Mika Biereth etc.? Players who Arsenal own, has been out on loan and performed at least decent in those clubs. These players could actually be worth a decent amount of money or even be given a chance at our club no? Norton-Cuffy played 40 games for Millwall this season with two goals and 4 assists and is an English U21 national team player, surely there must be a lot of interest for him (or interest to make him take Cedric’s place in the squad)? Biereth has 11 goals and 7 assists in 29 league games (for two different clubs, Motherwell and Sturm Graz) this season and scored 3 goals in 4 Europa Conference League games as well as another goal in the Austrian Cup at 21 years of age. And Patino played 33 league games for Swansea this year scoring 3 goals and assisted 4 as a 20 year old. Patino literally got benched since Christmas. When you can’t get into to a bottom 3rd championship team it’s time to go. 14 starts in a 46 game season is not positive. Too many people buy into the hype. Does nobody remember how long between Ashley Cole to Wilshere was? And further Wilshere to Saka. Not every academy kid is going to play for the first team. Arsenal are back to being an elite European team and they don’t have room for passengers. The kids that make it go to the championship and dominate. Neither Norton-Cuffy or Patino have done that.

I dont really agree with the "ramsdale loses value sitting on the bench" arguement. In a vacuum, yes, if a player is valued less by his current squad, he would be sold for less, but i think whats much more important is the number of buyers and sellers. Im making this scenario up, but if there are only 3 serviceable starting gk available on the market, and 5 clubs are wanting to upgrade their goalie, then it doesnt really matter howuch we value ramsdale, because we can have 2 or more teams bidding against each other. The fact that he was on our bemch wont matter as much, and he will be sold at a higher price. But if there are more goalies available then there are teams needing a goalie, then i agree that his value decreases because he was on our bench. Simply put, if multiple teams are interested and get into a bidding war, him sitting on the bench becomes kinda irrelevant.

Players like Viera and Lokonga are disappointing. They just don’t apply themselves in my opinion. There is a report i saw some days ago, that Mikel is not happy with Viera’s application in training.
I am not surprised really, if you saw him play for the U21 when he recovered from his injury the summer he was signed, you will not be either. You could argue that he was returning from injury but he just couldn’t be bothered. There is a reason his cameo against Fulham was praised because it’s the first time he played like he wanted it.
It is especially frustrating because he’s actually quite good when turns the burner on.
Compare his cameos and starts with Emile’s and the contrast is night and day. That’s more frustrating considering we are most likely going to lose Emile.
