The lyrics here can be interpreted in a number of different ways. My take is that of an awkward adult struggling with their own flaws and mental illness(es). I see someone trying to compartmentalize their pain and daily struggles while feeling bitterness towards those who are innocent and pure. Have you ever felt so envious of someone who is so undeserving of your wrath that you hate yourself even more for even feeling such things (what’s wrong with me)? It’s this toxic spiral of hatred and self loathing that you can’t escape. The fear dictates who we are and aren’t, and there’s nothing that can be done about it. Yet all the while you resent those who don’t have such struggles. These people (such as children, especially children,) illicit disgust, because they’re still capable of experiencing joy. They at the very least have the potential of a bright future that this individual perceives they don’t, because of their fear. Meanwhile they desperately resort to even more self destructive behavior as a means of evading these awful feelings(I’d give you my heart if you’d come and take me away), but of course it doesn’t work(I’m lost in your madness, but your madness can’t stop the pain…) And round and round we go.
Great take. The amount of emotions he can convey through his music is incredible. The sometimes seemingly superficial lyrics can reach the deepest and darkest parts of our minds. A phenomenal artist. Something you sadly don’t come across very often
For those of you who find the lyrics disturbing that is your outlook I find the lyrics deeper then what they seem John Maus has a Phd his lyrics are deep and have a bigger picture to them “ in disgust i watch the children play I watch their tiny hands “ to me it’s referring to a society that has failed and is brain wash with technology like are hands always on cell phones instead of feeling the love of nature just my 2 cents the music before ambient stuff at the end was a little bugged out
