      The lady was not being taken. The couple got in an argument and the girl wanted to get out of the car. She screamed and caused a scene like she was being kidnapped. The boyfriend apologized to his girlfriend and drove off with her still in the car. This was a while ago. No one was harmed and the guy never abused the girl physically. They just didn't get along well and the girl had psychotic eposides. Not sure why Mr.Nightmare said it was unsolved.

      My dad when he had early onset dementia would get confused about where he lived. He had recently moved from an apartment that he was in for a very long time and during foggy moments would go back there thinking he still lived there. He is a very big man and scared the heck out of the current occupants. Of course the police were called a few times. Thank goodness they were understanding of the situation. I live in a different country so I had to go through a long process of getting him declared incompetent to have him looked after in a nursing home.

Not only that, but companies like Ring *will* sell your personal information without any qualms. It's what you agree to when you check that little box on the terms of service agreement. Soldiers for example practice self discipline, to, among other things, maintain a handle on their emotions during combat situations. It is irrational not to spring to aid of someone screaming bloody murder for help, but the average person doesn't experience that sort of situation ever and the natural response is to lock up and freeze well over-processing what's happening, if you don't have training or prior experience to counter it, it takes a serious level of self-control to break out of that state and take the appropriate actions to help someone in an emergency.

    Looked more into the kidnapping story: The person screaming was identified as a black woman whose dark braided hair was being pulled backwards and the driver being a black man. No one got a good view of the driver due to the window being wrapped on his side. People called to the police that night about the screaming but they didn't find anything until the owners of the camera brought it to police the next day. The woman may or may not be Tashira Boughton as the initial video talking about her also mentioned it may not be her and then later stated in the comments that when asked Tashira said it wasn't her (mention this because a lot of people seem to think 100% that this is Tashira but there is the possibility that it isn't). I couldn't find any other update on this story so it's also likely that it was never solved.

      that's a textbook example of the bystander effect, unfortunately. you're less likely to receive help when you're in a place with a lot of people; in general, people tend to assume someone else is going to help or call the emergency hotline. it's a diffusion of responsibility and very often leads to nothing being done in a dangerous situation.
      on a more positive note, even just being aware of the bystander effect can make you more resistent to it! it's far from immunity, but being aware of the phenomenon can be enough to motivate a person into taking charge- or at the very least, directing others so they might help as well. taking charge during an emergency and assigning specific roles to individuals is essential and could very well save lives.

    Bro that kidnapped woman sounded so scared it reminded me when I was 14. I was back from a friends house down the street at about 9pm. This car heading toward me was making sudden stops and the car would jerk side to side. Suddenly it pulled over about 30 feet away and I could a woman screaming inside. It freaked me out for a second so I crossed the street. But when the door flung open the light in the car came on and I could see a guy holding her clothes while she tried to escape out the passenger door. He looked like he had a good grip but I got sudden courage and started heading right back toward them. I think he saw me and probably thought I was older than I was so he let go. Not sure if it was because of me but he did let her go and he sped off. I asked if she’s ok but she just ran down the street toward another on coming car and she asked them for help and got in that car and they went the other direction. Never knew what happened to her or what that situation was about but I’d like to think me approaching the car discouraged that man from taking off with her. And maybe that save her life.

    • @theeddorian
      @theeddorian 2 года назад +12

      There two allied aspects. One is that many people confound "security" with knowing what others are doing at all times; parents and children for instance. You can see just how badly that can backfire. In "enhancing" that one form of "security," most people are still utterly lost when it comes to electronic security. Essentially all modern electronic devices are "computers" at heart, simply CPUs tasked with a specific job - monitor my kids, the rooms in my house, .my yard, . . .
      The second aspect is that companies that produce "security" systems actively encourage your personal feelings of personal insecurity in order to convince you to spend money on their products. Even worse though is that if you considered whether to ask the typical sales person about how secure or insecure such systems are, you are potentially likely to feel that the impulse is childish. No one would develop and sell an "insecure" security system would they? Silly, don't ask that question. Of course, even if you did, that sales person is likely just as well informed as you, "I have one installed in my apartment!"

    The kidnapping was horrific. The amount of evilness is sad to say the least.

      @@jakobrose8278 We watch them get kidnapped and driven off against their will as we ignore their screams for help?

      You do worse: You ignore the cries of help from everyone around you.
      It's not the cries for help that bother you.
      It's the optics of it that does. Homeless people are just far more socially acceptable to ignore... Right?
