If I had a nickel for every time the words "Here We Are" were related to entering a secret laboratory through an elevator and fighting a monstrous amalgamation in a video game, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

I actually had nightmares after this part of the game ended. sure, it had a nice conclusion, but.. ..Those poor monsters. their lives won't be the same ever again. and who knows how long they were down there, suffering. ..At first I was mad at Alphys. for doing this. but at the end I realized it wasn't her fault. she was doing exactly what she had to. ...The only thing I can say, is.. ..I feel bad for them.
As i see it, how could anyone have expected things to play out the way they did? I mean, Alphys was given the monsters that had "fallen down." This is why I absolutely love Undertale. It's so friendly and humorous on the surface but when you get deeper into the game, you realise how dark it really is.
For me it’s probably my top three area themes, after Undertale and CORE. For me it’s really great but not one of the best tracks in the game. BUT we can all at least agree it is the most underrated song from Undertale
* Ring. . . Ring. . . HMM. . . A MYSTERIOUS SCIENCE HOUSE. * the sign outside says "lab." LAB? * like. . . laboratory. LABRADOR. . .Y? DOES THAT MEAN THERE ARE DOGS INSIDE? * i mean. * i wouldn't rule it out. **wink**
Fun fact, this song's time signature is actually 5/4 as opposed the the much more natural and common 4/4. It might be the smoothest execution of 5/4 I've ever heard in my life, I had no idea the time signature was weird.
This is a very good representation of the true laboratory, it starts off creepy and you are scared in there at first, but once you start collecting the various keys, you start to get a little more into it, you want to explore it more and it becomes more complex, that's what makes this track so special.
When a cute game has a small drop of deep horror it is perfect. Reminds me of the vanessa's manor in A Hat In Time. (edited cause i copied my comment form a hat in time video with music from vanessa's manor and was talking about how it reminded me of undertales true lab. I am just finding more and more similarities in these two games )
Dang, that beginning gives me chills. Alphys went through heck and came back. Having to mess around with life and souls is incredibly scary. All while having all of that pressure from everybody. And then failing. Alphys is such an incredibly deep character.
Yeah, it does. I haven't played Undertale yet but I really hope its popularity will carry over and shine some much-needed light on amazing games like Off and Yume Nikki.
if i had a nickel for every unexpected act 3 of a game that is entered into through an elevator involving slightly immoral experiments, incredibly powerful creatures, a choir in a part of the soundtrack, a creature(s) that is a combination of various enemies you have encountered that is all melted together, and is associated with the phrase "here we are" I'd have 2 nickels
This is on of my favorite tracks from Undertale. The weird time signature that changes every so often, together with the well hidden leitmotif from Alphys at the start and especially the end, make this song really interesting and exciting to me.
+Sigma Tea I couldn't exactly name what soundtrack before reading this comment, but I definitely thought it reminded me of Earthbound the first time I heard this.
I really like the time signature chosen in this piece. The 5/4 time always leaves you on the edge, and the one measure that changes to 6/4 to transition into the next portion of the piece prolongs the transition so that you continuously want to know what's coming next. Nice one, Toby :)
This song is the most Earthbound-like out of the whole Undertale soundtrack. Really does give me Earthbound vibes, the eerie, creepy but also chill atmosphere and feeling. Just amazing, I can't say it too much that Toby created such a masterpiece.
The only thing stopping it from sound like something straight out of Earthbound is the beat. If it had a much more simple, Nintendo-like beat, it'd seem like an Earthbound track

lmfao, 2 years late, but love the Kirby reference. I beat Fecto Elfilis the other day, and came back to listen to this since it was all I could think abt while playing through Lab Discoveria.
Someone needs to make a mod that replaces the music of first part of Chaos Elfilis’ fight with Hopes and Dreams, and start of the second phase with Burn in Despair and the last third with SAVE The World Or vice versa, for some reason Eternal Thrilling Tour-our-our would probably go well with the first half of Asriel’s second phase
@@samjetstream9 I think Thrilling Echo would change the vibe from despairing to terrifying, being at complete mercy. At the very least, it might fit the Omega Flowey fight. Still you gotta admit Two Planets would fit Asriel’s first and last phase.
I've never actually played Undertale, but I watched Cry's play through. After he died to Photoshop Flowey, I thought all he had to do was befriend Undyne, go back to fight Flowey and get the True Pacifist ending. I didn't expect a completely new section to come out of that, revealing how badly Alphys had fucked up and how it makes total sense she would commit suicide in most of the neutral endings.

man he really is a terrible king
he never thought to check on alphys or some shit
@@Pivvyy Why do you think that?
@@zacharyyoungblood7013 he didn’t check to see what the royal scientist was doing in his lab. all the things going on down there, the amalgamates, everything, he never actually interfered with it or helped make decisions
@@Pivvyy She hid it from everyone. Not even Mettaton knew, and he lived with her and one of the amalgamates was one of his best friends (Shyren's sister)
What's curious is the title of the song, "Here We Are".... I take it 'We' are referring to all the amalgamates in the Lab?
If you listen carefully, Asriel's adult/god form's sound bytes play as the text scrolls when you receive the phone call. Flowey lead the protagonist through the True Lab in the hopes of them retrieving Alphys (so she can go to the barrier along with the others) and setting his plans of absorbing every soul in the underground into motion. As to how he calls from the future? I guess it's a Godhood perk.

Tell us these nightmares
Some of them actually feel content with their lives afterwards. Even the monster's unaffected by them seem to still be happy.
As i see it, how could anyone have expected things to play out the way they did? I mean, Alphys was given the monsters that had "fallen down." Basically dead bodies, cadavers used for science to find solutions. And was asked for a way to leave the underground by Asgore. There was no way she could have expected...*that* to happen.
But yeah, I feel sorry for her and all the amalgamates.
BUT EVERYONE WAS STILL HAPPY IN THE END
It's so cold.

Fun fact, this song's time signature is actually 5/4 as opposed the the much more natural and common 4/4. It might be the smoothest execution of 5/4 I've ever heard in my life, I had no idea the time signature was weird.
As an aside, have you ever heard of the Jazz song called Take Five? It's also written in 5/4 time, you might enjoy it. :)
I also really love the two 6/4 measures it throws in there to shift between the first and second halves.
A time signature like that is sometimes called an "Amalgam Metre"
you know what the only other 5/4 song on the soundtrack is? alphys' theme!
This song is on 10/4 rather
this soundtrack is like, the best ever.
Starr Gurl Couldn't agree with you more. What's your favorite song from the OST?
probably His Theme, Fallen Down, and Here We Are...
er...
did you listen kirby OST?
The Shadow of the Past Yeah Kirby's ost is the best
Zelda's music is much better!
The Last of Us also has a fantastic soundtrack and don't forget games like Chrono Trigger or Terranigma.
This is a very good representation of the true laboratory, it starts off creepy and you are scared in there at first, but once you start collecting the various keys, you start to get a little more into it, you want to explore it more and it becomes more complex, that's what makes this track so special.
