    When this first aired, I thought it was one of the most original and inventive things Letterman did. I understand that he didn't like the end result, and it was never repeated.

    Man, that repeating laugh that sounds like an un-lubricated wood joint, PERFECT!
    Actually this really reminds me of Dave's old morning show with the same morning show lightness parodied. All that's missing is an Edwin Newman news update and of course some Winkies Cow Paste.

    I was hoping I'd find this episode! Thanks for uploading! I saw this the night it was aired and was stunned by it. I grew up on those late 60s-early 70s Summer Replacement shows. This captures the era with a mix of fondness and 80s-hip sarcasm. When John Hartman came on, I remember tearing up a little! He seemed to be on all those shows back then. It was a LONG way away from the innocent years. I thought his being there was a kind of reminder that it wasn't all silliness. Thanks Again!

    The magician act was one of the few funny bits on this little experiment, but even “bad” early Dave is better than most of today’s late night shows.

    who the hell has that annoying laugh lol

    • @sdne1959
      @sdne1959 7 лет назад +2

      I could be wrong, but I get the feeling "that annoying laugh" must be from a woman on the staff, who just happens to be standing/sitting near one of the open mikes.
      The reason I say this, is because I've heard that IDENTICAL laugh from other Letterman shows posted here, from approximately the same era (mid-eighties).
      That, or possibly it's there because they "sweetened" the audience 'reactions' (i.e., laughing/clapping/other) in post (production), and this woman's annoying laugh was one of those used (obviously, on multiple occasions).
      And yes, it is INCREDIBLY annoying.......the minute you start noticing it, it becomes VERY difficult to stop 'noticing' it from that point on.

    • @andylindsaytunes
      @andylindsaytunes 7 лет назад +3

      Since this episode is a spoof of 70s variety show, the repeated laugh is intended to mock TV comedies of the era, that frequently re-used cheap sounding canned laughter. You could hear the same laugh played repeatedly throughout the show, and even on other shows.
