I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

Hey Tom. I'm going to join your site this week. Just wondering first, do you have videos on there that show how to use stack and tilt with uneven lies (ball above and below your feet)?
Best golf coach ever.
A bit of an exaggeration for sure, James, but thank you very much! I truly appreciate your kind words and support!
Tom
Hi Tom, I am a German 63 year old golf beginner, just received my license to play golf and am browsing youtube lessons to find a trainer who I understand what he means. You are such a coach. I don't understand every word, but the youtube transcript helps me. tilt and connect are keywords for me. Yesterday i caught myself on the tee when i said to the ball: "Hello ball, how are you today". I had to laugh spontaneously. Your "connect" video did a good job 🙂Thanks alot. Best regards from Germany
Welcome to this great game, Wilhelm - I am glad to know that my lessons are helping you!!
Thank you very much for your kind words, and have fun out there!!!
Tom
You need a “license” to play golf in Germany?
Yeah Man. That's a line from The Honeymooners show. Ed Norton delivers the line "Hello Ball" when Ralph and Ed go golfing.
@@Hobo_Mojoyeah a platzreiffe, Erik Anders-lang did a great video on golf in Germany

My coach keeps telling me that she’d like to see my left shoulder point down more. Thanks to your video I can now do it. Tilt was missing. Watched your video turned on my indoor monitor and the positive change was amazing. I was working hard on getting my club path to the right and was struggling. I focused on the tilt and without trying my path was to the right. So easy. Thanks.
Fantastic! I’m very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing!
Yes - proper execution of the tilt component can indeed put the entire swing on autopilot as you are now discovering.
Thanks so much for your support in sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪

👍 I watched a few videos of Toms on RUclips and decided to give him a try. Signed up to his monthly plan and watched some training videos. I then decided to take up the option of a lesson and send in some clips of my swing.
His response was quick 👍 he then sends back a voice over and points out your problems in your swing and also sends out the drills to help fix them.
It’s the best help I have ever had.
Within a couple of sessions my swing is getting better and being able to go back to reference points on my phone is a fantastic help.
If you guys out there have a garden and can set up a practice net it will help a lot.
Keep up the good work young man 👍

Saguto - a couple of things. First you're a great teacher because you have a true caring spirit and you know how important it is for you to hit balls well and you share it. Second, I was always on a given day, I could shoot 75 followed by an 84 and it's driven me crazy for years. I was always standing up on the downswing. I got away with it using my irons but forget the driver. One day practicing what you've taught here and I have been and can't wait to murder the ball on the course. If I can hit 8-10 fairways I will shoot 75 every time I play. What you have done here has undone literally decades of BS I learned by teachers and friends. Also, I love your guitar channel and especially your appreciation for Gary Rossington. I have like 6 CS les paul's and Jr's and specials laying around my house and I've played them since I was a teenager. I'm in my 50's now. Your as good of a teacher there too. Dude, thank you and my the Lord bless you too my bro!
I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Eric, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style - both in golf and guitar - are resonating with you!!
With regard to golf and all that BS you referenced, consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of modern “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, and I'm thrilled to learn of your resulting improvement in ball striking, driving, and scoring consistency. Well done!! 💪💪
Thanks so much for your message and support, keep up the fantastic work, and rock on (southern style, of course...😎)!!

After watching Tom's RUclips videos at the end of last golf season ('20) and his series on 'Mr. Hogan'...I put these drills to use on the range and then on the course. Wow! My ball striking improved tremendously! I then joined Tom's Online Golf School to work on my swing and ball striking through the winter and would highly recommend it. He distills the elements of the golf swing, making it a much more repeatable motion, which (to me) is the key to improved consistency. Thanks, Tom...you've made the game even more fun!

Great coach!! There are so many great teachers out there. I have learned so much from so many different teachers!! Thanks for the tips man.
Thanks Matt - I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you!!
With regard to watching different videos from different sources, yes - there are plenty of great teachers out there, but please do be careful when navigating the muddied, overly-complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction as it can get very confusing. It's best to embrace a method and a coach - whether it be this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing or another - put your blinders on, and stick to it. For example, my channel's lessons and tips are not a compilation of band-aid fixes - they are all elements of the comprehensive system that I teach. Now, could someone deploy one of my tips to field dress a swing wound? Absolutely. However, it will ultimately serve them far better - and will stand the test of time and pressure - if they adopt the methodology in its entirety, and that is precisely what my online school does in a structured and sequential learning environment. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. 1st 100 balls hitting with the secret tilt sauce today & I picked up 5 mph swing speed and ~ the same yardage, it's a start (and yes, different muscles are sore so I changed something) yet a number of shanks happened which would seem to indicate that I'm moving closer to the ball on the downswing, so maybe my tilt is still going down on the downswing? Does that make sense? Any thoughts appreciated Tom
A 5 mph gain in swing speed on your first try is certainly significant! You've likely changed your downswing path and any setup adjustments you may have made previously - consciously or subconsciously - will now have a different effect on your impact condition. For example, if you had been lining the ball up closer to the heel of the club to compensate for toe strikes - a common result of an over the top path - then it could be that with the improved path you are now exposing the hosel to the ball. If this is the case then the fix may be something as simple as centering the ball on the face at address.
There are entire sections of my online school dedicated to resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Have you looked into it? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. @@SagutoGolf thank you so much for your continued advice Tom. Frustration abounded on the range today but we all know how Rome was built. Your on line course it quite tempting. Have you considered adding a "thank you button" ? With appreciation.
@Patrick Murphy - Yes - always keep "Rome" in mind as you weather the ups and downs. What I teach is a complete golf swing system, not a series of tips, band-aids, and fixes for field dressing swing wounds. As such, the transformation takes time as we work to gradually eradicate those stubborn ghosts of swings past. It's a very worthwhile process, though, as it ultimately leads us to the land of consistent ball striking bliss. That is also why the sequential, comprehensive, structured learning platform of the school is far superior to trying to haphazardly piece things together through a series of YT videos.
Keep up the hard work, and I'll hope to see you soon in the school!
Tom
I have been playing golf for two years- mid handicap- I have taken several lessons with so called pros and none of them have said this simple thing. They would say rotate but the is so much easier to understand. If you rotate your shoulder under your chin you automatically make a perfect backswing and in order to make a downswing you have to rotate that shoulder the other way. My striking is so much better now. Thanks
That's awesome ultimatejay! I am glad you have fun some new Crispy KFC in your golf game. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for your enthusiasm and sarcasm. Love the approach to golf coaching. “How bold can you be?”. It does change your swing perspective. Thanks Tom.

@@SagutoGolf Thanks Tom! This past Monday I hit a Hole-in-one .
AWESOME!! Congratulations on your ace!!
Great job Tom. The method is solid and has improved my contact and distance. I have also found that I now have greater trail hip depth which clears the way for an inside downswing. I am now hitting draws and fighting the occasional snap hook. Mind you, I haven't hit a dozen draw shots over my 40 years of golf until this month. Thanks Tom and keep up the great work!!
Well done, Mike!! You've obviously done an excellent job digesting the lesson content, incorporating it into your swing, and taking ownership of it, and yes - that trail hip depth really opens the door and clears the way for those nice, crispy push-draws!!
Thanks for sharing your success and keep up the great work!!

I’m a member and I appreciate all the hard work you have put into this channel, I’m 68 with a new metal right hip and now I can swing the my 7 iron without pain . And by the way the side burns are a little too Elvis like 👍 but that’s OK just keep doing what what you do
That's fantastic, Mike!!
As for the sideburn thing, as I'm telling folks, it's a rather simple equation:
Mastery of Golf = Control of the Hips; Elvis = Master of the Hips; Sideburns = Elvis; Golf = Sideburns
Keep up the great (pain-free) work!
Tom
Thanks, Tom. Years ago, I read a book by Carl Lohren, "One Move to Better Golf," which focused on the lead shoulder to simplify and control the golf swing. This is a similar, except simpler, approach. Thanks again.
Yea Carl moved the shoulder out first. Jimmy Ballard teaches this move before the tilt. Left shoulder level - right shoulder up. It's not a turn - it's a coil. Quoted by JB. Hasn't failed me for 20 years.
My pleasure, Sean! I'm glad to know that my simplified approach is resonating well with you!
Thanks for your comment!
Tom
Your funniest one yet. You're hitting it smooth as a gravy sandwich and buttery as a hot waffle.
LOL!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
Tom
I watch all your VDOs, and very much coming into Stack and Stilt and you really simplify our life big time, thanks so much for the value-added in our lives, from your experience with this ST swing style the driver loft is best with 9.5 or 10.5 in your experience, thanks much for the info in advance!
I'm glad to know that you are enjoying my channel's content!
As for driver loft, that's going to all come down to what works best for you based on your swing speed and ball flight. My best suggestion - once you've got your swing locked down - is to go to a demo day at a local golf course practice range and try the different heads, lofts, shafts, etc. They'll usually have a Trackman (or something similar) to give you the numbers, plus you'll be able to see the ball flight. I think it's the best way to make an educated decision.
Cheers!
Tom

Brother. I tell you what. Been hitting the past two days and the work has more than paid off.
I worked on Fades and Draws today, and a bunch of chipping around the green with different irons.
I saved the driver for last, and after figuring out the attack angle, I was controlling those too. Although... I get why they don't use driver on most holes in PGA haha.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart man, for you are the one that started me on this journey. The amount of wisdom I've gained from committing to golf is priceless and I'll have it forever.
To all you newcomers...or people that haven't benefited from Tom's videos yet... KEEP AT IT. DO NOT GIVE UP. Thousands of golf balls. Practice the grip day and night... have a club next to your desk, computer, w/e it may be... because that is where the glory is! Once you get the grip, it all falls into place. They don't stress it enough that the grip is the key, but it 100% is. Allows you to align properly, feel the weight of the club properly, and gives you the opportunity to flow through the land of milk and honey.
A true testimonial of someone who committed to the process, embraced it, worked it intelligently and tirelessly, navigated through the hiccups, took ownership of his swing, and is now thoroughly enjoying the fruits of his labor. 👍👍👍
Well done, Johnny!! And I'm glad things are thawing so you can finally get back out there and have some fun!!!
Thanks for the great comment and continued support!

This helped me! 🙌 Thank you Tom, I really appreciate your videos especially this one!
Thank you Donald, I'm glad it helped you!
Tom, muscle memory after using the traditional swing method for decades is hard to break. Been at this now for about 3 weeks initially I lost some distance, but now it's coming back along with more consistence and solid contacts, maybe about 70% overall.
Couple of things I learned from your classes, a bit stronger grip vs my neutral grip seems to be better for me and I like the slight draw effect. Having my arm along the chest for the first 3 feet and club head facing downwards aligned with spine and not turning hands works great, just a few takes that have helped.
The Biggest difference is that I no longer have that sore upper back after 18 like before, less stress on the old bod. At 71, I can still break 80 from the white Tees, but now I feel I can get that extra speed without hurting myself, lol.
Thanks
Yes, Lucio - those "ghosts of swings past" do not go away without a fight - especially if we're transitioning from a prior "shift & lift" type of motion - but it looks as though you are doing an excellent job of beating them down when they rear their ugly heads!
Anyway, I am thrilled to learn of your body-friendly success as well as the increased swing speed. Thanks so much for your kind words regarding my instruction, keep up the great playing, and have fun out there!!

Crisp'in crispy shots like a glutton for pure crispy-ness (Tom Seguto style) --every club in the bag, driver to P-wedge. How? Weight forward ( Shaolin style) . Hands forward (Trevino style). Point the lead shoulder at the ball --turn your shoulders-- (The king, Arnie Palmer style). Keep your relationship with the ball --focus and keep your head still (Jack Nicklaus style) And, shoot. Thanks Tom. You are the Greatest! Absolute.

Awesome, hard to bring from range to course. Working on that.
There has been quite a bit of dialogue in the Members' Forum of my online school on the topic of how to transport "Ranger Rick" to the golf course. We all experience that! All I can tell you is that it is part of the process, and as your practice performance becomes more and more consistent, then it's just a function of time in terms of when/how that will translate itself to the pressures and challenges of actual play. As confidence in your swing grows you should find more and more that you are playing "golf" instead of "golf swing" on the course, at which point your mechanical thoughts will be reduced to one or two at the most, and you will be nearly entirely focused on your target and not your swing.

Interesting Tom - Like many people I have taken the term 'takeaway' to heart - In practice that means that the first thing the new golfer believes he should be doing is moving the club away from the ball with his arms - not with his torso rotating and the triangle formed by his arms/chest staying more or less intact.
@arun sharma - Sadly, many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as actively snatching the club back with the hands and arms - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration. We're doing our best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness!
Have a look at this channel video with its unique bird's eye perspective and notice how nicely the swing flows without any contrived manipulations if we just allow it to: ruclips.net/video/WxDD63quyk8/видео.html

Good stuff!! But, What about Moe Norman’s golf swing? Is it crispy or extra crispy? What is your professional opinion?
Sure - Moe himself was extra crispy - a legendary ballstriker for certain!
While the Stack and Tilt swing I teach shares the single plane feature, it is definitely different from the Moe Norman version and for this reason I do not recommend crisscrossing between the two methods as it would certainly lend itself to confusion. This should not be construed as a knock against Mr. Norman's renowned prowess or the style of instruction that he inspired; it's simply that components of his swing style are not compatible with S&T. So my best suggestion to those who are weighing these two methods is to choose one or the other, but not both!

Tom-
Do you use the same tilt for short pitch shots? I seem to chop with the wedges; unless I’m getting the club too high?
I'll try this.
Great swing thought - TILT. Focus on tilt gives you excellent takeaway, depth at top of back-swing. Combine this with tilt on the follow through gives you and excellent swing without thinking about all components. Online school - Just do it, well worth the small investment.
Thanks Tom!!!
Tom, I know you're a follower and acolyte of the goddess of swing and a deep thinker and great teacher ta-boot. But, the tilt deal --for me-- has been messing with me. I over emphasized it and it caused a dip in my back swing and a consistent chunk. I just figured it out. More important than tilt --for me-- is maintaining a relationship with the ball --holding spine angle as the shoulders rotate through the swing.
This is precisely why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my RUclips content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. I find your swing philosophy easy to understand but I am still struggling to make a quality divot. It makes sense to position the ball in the same spot near the left heel regardless of the iron being used. Your illustration of your arm being a compass makes complete sense. On that thought though, if you have one swing and one ball position for every club would it further make sense to have single length shaft irons? it seems like it would work with your swing technique and it would eliminate my guessing as how far to widen my stance as each iron gets shorter.
Hi Craig,
With regard to ball position, while you do have some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. For example, my personal preference for the shorter clubs tends to be a position that is slightly forward of prescribed.
There are golfers in my online school - including some excellent players - who absolutely swear by their single-length irons in our Members Forum Community and attest to them being a perfect fit for this swing system.
With regard to taking a divot after the ball, this is certainly preferred since it is a strong indicator of true crispy compression. If you've never really taken divots before, then it may simply be a matter of getting used to keeping the weight moving increasingly forward throughout the motion without losing your swing center. When you are able to consistently brush the grass in the same spot on your practice swings, you'll know that you are getting there.
Here are a couple of lesson videos that will help you with the "forward" component:
- ruclips.net/video/RD-ZtuQ1BvQ/видео.html

And here's a video of Mike Bennett striping 17 in a row with perfect divots to give you something to aspire to 😎: ruclips.net/video/im5UAZHeoDc/видео.html
By the way, have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Additionally, you'll find all my short game content (putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play), diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and so much more there. @@SagutoGolf Wow! I can't believe you replied to my question so quickly, thank you Tom. I watched one of your videos for the 1st time about a month ago and I told myself that I was definitely going to join your online class, I just wanted to see if my body could comprehend your swing philosophy first. I'm 53 and I gave up golf about 20 years ago because all of my golfing buddies moved away, I even gave away my clubs. I am now trying to get back into golf with a much older, weaker, stiffer body with different clubs and a different swing technique (what could possibly go wrong). I am only playing once every week or two which makes it very difficult to remember proper ball placement and stance widths as clubs change. So if I can focus on one swing, one ball position (for irons) and only a slight variation in stance width I believe it would help simplify the learning process due to repetition that never varies. So from a geometry stand point, arm being a compass, it makes sense to me that single length shaft would allow me to keep a common ball position and stance. Am I way off in thinking this? Also, in one of your videos I thought I saw you say that your students could download an APP that would video our swing for you to critique, is this correct? Damn, I wish I lived near you, my ass would be out on the range with you every day.
@Craig Brocchi - You are certainly not way off in your thinking, though I do prefer at least slight adjustments in ball position for short vs. mid vs. long irons, since a more descending blow is desired with the short clubs - regardless of whether they are standard or single- length.
With regard to lessons, your location is not an issue since I have phased out in-person instruction so I can further dedicate my efforts in support of the online school. I will, however, continue the V1 Swing Video Analysis lessons you referenced as they are instrumental to the progress of my school's members, and these can be done for anyone from anywhere across the globe, school member or not. This enables me to put my eyes on your swing and offer some very specific observations and corrective action plans if applicable. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf
As for your age, etc., this is a very body-friendly motion as supported by the fact that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing and experience great ball striking. I hope to see you in the school!

Hey seguto, thanks for the advice. Do you stand taller with driver on your hand ? Meaning your chest is not angled so far toward the ground?
Perhaps only slightly, and the reason is that with the driver we push our hands out an inch or so at setup to encourage more of an around the body motion, whereas with the other clubs the arms hang down naturally from the shoulders.
These videos are so funny that I am starting to take them seriously!
Be careful lest your golf game then somehow start to improve.....seriously.....or not...... 😎
Hi Tom, I've been learning so much from you. Thank you. Is it possible to tilt down to steep? Lately on my downswing it doesn't feel quite right so I'm hoping it is just because I am starting my swing to steep. Does that make sense to you? TY,
Terri
Hi Terri,
"Weight forward, shoulder down, hands in, tilt/turn/extend." These are the basic precepts of Stack & Tilt, and we marry them together to create this powerful, consistent, body-friendly swing. So if we tilt without extending, or if we fail to bring the hands on an inward path, or if we allow the weight to shift back, etc., something will break down. Combining the motions, however, is not nearly as difficult as it may sound as long as you have the proper instruction.
Try this... If you tilt toward the target while keeping your head in place you will introduce the other components of turning and extending to put your body in the perfect backswing position with your shoulder oriented downward towards the ball. To get a feel for the coordinating of these elements we can reverse engineer it like this: Without a club in your hands rest the top of your forehead against a wall to keep it in place. Without allowing your head to move execute the forward side tilting motion and watch what happens. Magically your lead shoulder has turned downward and your spine has extended!!
Here's another way to go about it:
1) Get into your setup posture
2) Stand up straight (extend)
3) While standing erect (extended) tilt your upper body towards the target, keeping your hips in place. (In other words, if you are right-handed, stand up straight and tilt your torso to the left like it's the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Vice versa obviously for lefties.)
4) Now that you are extended and tilted, turn your upper body as you would in your backswing, keeping your weight forward while allowing your hips to turn 45 degrees and your trail leg to straighten.
There you have your backswing - tilted, turned, and extended!!

Thanks, tilted kilt!!! 😂
My left shoulder feels like its pointed in front of the ball now and I'm hitting it really consistently. An added benefit is that I can keep my eye on the ball. Beautiful!! You're now in the buffet line for a lifetime supply of extra-crispy KFC!!

Got into stack and tilt 8/10 years ago shot the best round of golf ever a 66. Funny thing is I abandoned it. Found you got back into it hitting it much better again. Question! You know how awkward/very weird the tilt feels when you first start doing it. Do you find that as a person continues to do it over and over they get used to it and they keep chasing the initial sensation and start overdoing the tilt because they think they aren’t doing it right unless it continues to feel like it did when they first started. Also is the tilt more pronounced with the wedge than the driver since your bent over more? I assume so if the tilt of the shoulder should point at the ball at top of the backswing.
Glad to have you back to the "dark side", Chris! 😂
You need to develop your best feel for the tilt. It all begins with a good setup - i.e.: upper body oriented downward to establish a relationship with the ball, hands even with the inside of the lead thigh, and weight favoring the front side. Then..... If you turn your shoulder down towards the ball and keep your head in place you will have tilted. If you keep your head in place and extend your spine you will have tilted. If you tilt while keeping your head in place you will have also turned and extended. Find what works best and most consistently for you.
And yes, the length of the shaft determines how far you stand from the ball, and that in turn dictates the angle of inclination for your shoulder turn.
Tom

Without allowing your head to move execute the forward side tilting motion and watch what happens. Magically your lead shoulder has turned downward and your spine has extended!!
Here's another way to go about it:
1) Get into your setup posture
2) Stand up straight (extend)
3) While standing erect (extended) tilt your upper body towards the target, keeping your hips in place.
4) Now that you are extended and tilted, turn your upper body as you would in your backswing, keeping your weight forward while allowing your hips to turn 45 degrees and your trail leg to straighten.
There you have your backswing - tilted, turned, and extended!!
I hope this helps, and I hope to see you in the online school!

@@SagutoGolf -You’re the man Tom! Thanks so much for taking time to reply. I’ll definitely try out your tips. Keep swinging!
That’s magically delicious Tom!! It helps me to keep my weight forward after I smash it like the Incredible Hulk too. Ah sweet surprises, tilting is my lucky charms
LOL! They always be after me lucky charms, Danny. (I don't know why, though, since I freely distribute them here to anyone and everyone who's watching....🍀😆)
Keep on tilting and smashing, my big green friend!

Could you do a tip covering uneven lies using stack and tilt? Since I switched, I have struggled with uphill lies. Gravity wants me to put my weight on my back leg.
Hi Walt,
Uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies are on my near future to-do list for the online school, where in addition to the intuitive, structured, self-guided learning platform for the full swing I've got loads of content on all other aspects of the game, from chipping, pitching, bunker play, and putting to the finer points such as ball flight rules, shot shaping, and more. It's really a steal at just $10 US/month or $99 US/year. If you haven't already done so I invite you to check it out here: saguto.golf/p/golf-swing-simplified-tom-saguto-pga.
Having said that, the short answer with regard to uphill lies is to match your shoulders to the angle of the slope and stay centered through the swing motion. It is understood that some pressure may shift to your trail side according to the severity of the slope. Just do you best to keep from swaying as that will shift your low point and cause inconsistent results.
Thanks,
Tom
Does this apply to driver also?
Same swing for everything!
I believe hogan said the secret is doing the opposite of what youre doing and youll make a perfect golf swing. I use this move when my pivot to the rear leg gets poor and i sway a lil back on the backswing. When my pivot into my target side leg and my tilt gets poor i go back to working on my pivot into my rear leg again. Damn this game! Lol. Great info for most tho. Keep up the great work.
Interesting perspective. I'm not sure how this conflicts with Mr. Hogan's teaching. He was most definitely a tilter - as are all the games greats - as evidenced by his image of the lead shoulder turning downward on that angled pane of glass.
Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying my channel's content!
