My humble clame to fame. I worked with Andrew at a renaissance festival in Wisconsin and we did the Black Mountain Festival in NC. I think that was were Andrew met Jimbo. Too great musicians.
Me too. Saw Andrew with them then sought him out and ate it all up. Do also love the Songs for Rosetta album. These two are so different, but play so well together!
I was first introduced to Andrew Bird and the Bowl of Fire music at a Zippers concert at the 9:30 Club in DC many, many years ago. Been a big fan ever since! It is really cool to see Andrew and Jimbo playing together here. They are both so talented.
Zippers were really an amazing formula. Everyone was just so talented in their own way... they meshed so well with one another. This is a great example of that. Each member went on to make their own great music, but just never as dear to me as as Zippers were. I could listen to every album straight through on repeat for weeks. Sure, swing music was popular at the time, but this transcended the trend and took us back to the South in the 30's or 40's... I don't know. It's like "O Brother Where Art Thou" but popular on the radio in the 90's.
Agreed. The Zippers came off as a novelty act at first glance, but their albums are solid from front to back. Great musicians dipping in to a genre but make it something new. We still listen to their Christmas album every year.
When was this filmed? They talk about having met 20 years ago, but as of 2021 I feel like they were playing together more like 25 years ago. Great stuff, y'all! Jimbo is from my neck of the woods (DeSoto County, MS)

The Squirrel Nut Zippers were my gateway drug to Andrew Bird. So wonderful to see this combo at work :-)

It was filmed in 2016. Andrew hasn’t done one of these “Live From the Great Room” shows in quite a while.
It needs more cowbell
