I actually enjoyed the sparkle on your looks more because you pulled out your Natasha Denona Gold Palette, as well as Yucca and trust me there is nothing on the ABH palette with that level of sparkle! haha I'm beyond honored you used my video, and I was so relieved you didn't question my color choices 😂 I was trying to use as many shades as possible!

I have all the "fall shades" I need already. I mean, seriously every Fall/Winter the same colors are released in new packaging. Berry/burgundy/pinks, Greens & Golds. Between my Viseart & SG palettes & all the singles I own, I can pretty much dupe the vibe of any new eyeshadow palette if not dupe it exactly. I am much more interested in the new complexion products( skin tints, liquid blushes, etc) since new formulas & textures are becoming available & powders don't look so good on me anymore. I only buy new eyeshadow palettes if they offer something new or as a replacement for something well passed its expiration.
I appreciate this kind of video, showing us how we can save ourselves from blindly purchasing everything that comes out by pulling from previous palettes. Very helpful pretty lady!
I watched Patty’s video and someone in the comments mentioned Viseart dark edit and I decided I would use that and didn’t need to buy Fall Romance. Thanks for showing us we can use what we have. Now to buy the Hourglass face palette 😂
Oh yes! Dark Edit is THEE Fall Romance from Viseart. And those shadows mix so well with each other. The Navy with that Khaki green is 🤌🏽
Hi Alicia. I need to break the eyeshadow buying habit too. So far I haven’t bought the new mothership, the I need a nude or the 3 indie palettes that have my heart. I’m recreating them with my extensive collection instead. I did allow myself 3 Prada quads. But still it’s progress! No buys don’t work for me but being more selective at this point is the way to go.
I bet most of us can recreate the I Need a Nude. People were in denial. 😬 Was that bad to say?
@@TracyD2 People lost their minds over a color story they probably have 10 times over. The siren song of “buy me, I’m new and shiny” is easy for me to understand but the hype ND got makes me think, cynically, that she must have one heck of an affiliate payout.
I got suckered into INAN because of that new formula 😮💨 All that to say, I managed to recreate those looks with Star, and a few others. But because I signed the devil’s contract in collecting all of Natasha’s palettes, I had to have it. I will try to break the cycle with that one, eventually! I also wanted the Prada palettes, but then I bought too much nail polish 😅

I love this episode! I’m in a similar place with allll the stuff. I have an entire dresser FULL of makeup - girl! And it’s easy to compare with others, but.. the truth is, that ABH palette is never going to look the same on you, me or anyone else as it does on Patty or other models. We all have unique skin tones, different lighting and with some brands even differing shades in the palette. What you’re doing makes total sense, trying to make a similar look with what you already have. I’m here for it!
Very true, and it all comes down to the individual. I’m happy that I dedicated time to matching shades, and recreating Patty’s looks. Dark Edit came through, and that will be my designated Fall Romance for the season 🙆🏽♀️
I wasn't planning on it. These days unless it's really original or brand I like to collect, I just shop my collection.

ABH hasn't been on my radar for ages but seeing those Viseart palettes in action inspires me to crack mine open. I absolutely love their mattes!🤩
Yes! Do it! Lol. I have both petite palettes of Neutral Mattes and Dark Mattes. They're so so good!!

You know I was waiting for your review. I had intentions of buying this palette. I really loved the promo pics initially. The more I thought about it, I have these shades in my collection. I have to be thoughtful when it comes to makeup purchases in this season of my life. Fall is full of events for my kiddos, birthdays, Halloween, holidays, you name it. Plus groceries hitting our family budget hard! Interested to see what you have that are comparable. 💜
This!! I have been practicing intentional buying and have kids also. So I understand this time of year is tough. I have a Christmas budget per kid plus for myself. And plan to shop holiday sales for myself come November. 😊 And I actually have an album in my phone of swatched pics of my eyeshadow collection by colors and by mattes vs shimmers. So I can refer back to that. It helps me stay on track with knowing what I have and what I need. I have a few shades I would like still that I plan to get as byop's singles, as a wishlist currently. 😊

I hope Natasha does a Midi Xenon and expand it to add dark blues, electric blues, and grays and just overall dark. I am on a no buy but I had to get Glamlite’s Hershey’s cookies, and cream which is how I imagine midi xenon would look like.
ND Circo loco has a magenta shimmer that might work 👍…. It’s called Razzle Dazzle… and aerialist might work for that first lighter shimmer in ABH?

I saw someone on Instagram or RUclips compare Colourpop’s 1st Hocus Pocus palette to the ABH palette. I’m sure the formula is not quite as good but I have it sitting in my collection. It is really nice.
Oh yeah! And I feel the colourpop villains is similar, also!

I love what you did here. I’ve been doing this. Instead of buying, I pull out what I have and I ALWAYS find very similar shades and end up loving those forgotten palettes allover again!
I need to do this more often! If only I had the fortitude to do this with Natasha Denona releases 🤣
This makes me want it more!! 😍 but I’m trying to focus on getting really special single shadows that i really want instead of a palette where i like most of the shades but not all. I’m just now getting into indie shadows. I just placed a huge first Clionadh order for the sale and a little magnetic palette so I can go through everything I have (not an extensive amount) and make my own version, even though I still don’t have any of the palettes you have or have most of the shades, especially the mattes. I might just get it if it looks amazing in store. I really liked Cosmos! As for Hourglass, I hesitated and waited too long to order the jellyfish palette in the owl packaging and it’s out of stock 😭 if I can’t get the owl palette then I’m out. I love that owl!!!

Love it!! I've always had a smaller collection, but it was sort of all over the place, lol. I actually, last year, did a declutter of the majority of my makeup because it was pretty old and not performing the same. So then, between last Christmas and this year's birthday gift cards, I've regained a nice collection. With the palettes I own having all the matte shades I want minus neons and nice shimmers minus a few colors/I want multichromes... Which for the ones I still want I have wish lists for with different shops.
So like you're doing here, when I'm tempted, i compare it with my collection. 😊
After my declutter, I now have a clearer picture of what I own, and and better handle on any future wish lists. And it played a huge part in me managing to pull this video together.
Viseart’s Le Marais looks like the same exact palette less the greens. I take pride in a well curated palette collection. I separate them by “type of wear” I have a daytime/everyday/easy looks drawer (I can literally stick my hand in blindly and choose something that I’ll enjoy using) the drawer below is a bit more fun, more colorful if I’m in that mood and lastly, I have a “special occasion/creative/fun” caboodle. I also declutter seasonals and bring them back in when appropriate
I love this content of people using what they have and just chatting with the viewer!! Many times we see new new new palettes and makeups that it’s really hard to see what actually gets used by the creator and what is on their vanity regularly. Also very few releases these days are unique in the sense that if you’re a makeup consumer you probably can dupe a palette out.

Really enjoyed watching the way you created a similar colour story with what you already had in your other palettes. Such fun to see the nuances from all the colours. It's like looking at a paint palette. It really gets one inspired . Thanks as always for sharing your thoughts Alicia.
I think the biggest difference between the Viseart Dark Mattes & the ABH palette is the saturation level. The Viseart seems to be slightly more desaturated(neutral) even tho the shades are dark. The deep mattes in the ABH look more vibrant (comparatively) Whenever you have a Red/Green colorstory in a palette, you have to keep in mind that they are complementary colors & not blend them together unless you want a very desaturated or even muddy looking shade. I think the ABH palette is beautiful & would be amazing on someone with deeper or cooler coloring that has a hard time finding colors that aren't too ashy/grey looking on them.

I definitely get this because Im trying to work from a budget and use what I have. I ended up getting Fall Romance, but passed on the I Need A Nude (I know...but I definitely have the shades from ND in my collection and I'm trying to use those palettes more.)

I have the Rose metals ABH too and I have barely used it. I am going to pull it out and use it for the rest of this week along with my Sydney Grace palette I have been using this week. I love this video - especially since I have most of those palettes you used to compare Fall Romance with. You might be able to pull from PMG for that gold shade - she has so many I'm sure we have something close... lol

I wanted to buy this when I saw the promo photos. After the reveal my wallet thanked me. I know new releases drive views but I appreciate the creativity behind videos showing how to use what you have to get similar effects and tones. Truly playing with makeup rather than pushing products. Love it!

Such a good video thanks Alicia! This is what I often do when a new palette appears and maybe I don't like all the shades in it - so it's hard to justify a purchase. I then try to replicate the shades I do like in it, from what I already have. I print out a photo of the new palette and write on it the dupes I have for the shades I like :D

I’m also skipping this palette. The teaser photos attracted me at first but I wasn’t that excited after the reveal. I immediately thought of Dark Mattes from Viseart so I knew I could dupe it. I’ve also been focusing on not purchasing more eyeshadow palettes and when I do, I want only my favorite brands and preferably magnetic pans so I can dupe palettes in formulas I already love. I feel like maybe SG’s Chase Your Dreams palette could have similar shades sans the greens but perhaps in conjunction with Dark Mattes you’d have most of the palette. It’s also giving Urban Decay’s Born to Run vibes???
Urban Decaaaaaaay!! That has to be one of my more favorite palettes of all time. And agreed that you can definitely conjure up Fall Romance looks from Born To Run ⚡️

Me too! I'm trying to stop as well. And I also got the Hourglass palette 3 in the owl and it won't come in till fri. Like, why? lol. Ok, I did get the ABH Romance lol. And I tried one look with Midnight. It's pretty!! As I'm watching this video on my laptop on the right in the suggestion videos, there is a short of you using the PM Star Wars Droid palette and I swear the look on one eye looks similar to me using the Midnight shade on my lids. So you did good not getting the ABH. I'm sure we have so many shades the same. Great video as always Alicia!!

yes! I looooove videos like this - you have such an extension and wonderful collection I will never mind if you don't buy a new release and look for comparisons in your collection instead!
PS: please know that I truly don't care if you are ever "late" with a release. I am, how do you say, cheap? LOLZ - I never buy anything right away and always wait for a sale, so a review video that's a few days/weeks/months old is just in time for me 🙂
I broke my no buy makeup just for this palette and it looks like i already have most of these colours in my collection already. So you are right, it isnt critical to buy this palette
I developed a love for shadow sticks and just using it on my lids and blended into my creases. I was a 4 shade on my lids kind of girl and bought palettes like the world was going to explode! I guess I just got lazy and focused more on bronzers and blush. I am so happy I stopped buying palettes and saving money is always a bonus. I even skipped Mama Pat’s latest Mothership and even Natasha’s latest. Pretty, yes but I am getting tired of metallics. I’ll probably cave the next Sephora sale. I have bought the Danessa Myricks’ latest palette, Groundwork, cuz I love the combo of cream and a matching powder. I haven’t ventured using it other places than my eyes cuz I’m nervous and now lazy but I do love it and glad I bought it. I need to revisit my Viseart Dark Edit mini palette now!

I placed this huge order for Viseart matte palettes and now, I’m having a blast making looks with those shadows. I was interested in ABH’s palette for a second, but I don’t think I’d wear it.

Hello Alicia! It’ll seem like I am throwing a red herring so to speak into this conversation but one palette that is apparently not on your radar is the new Nomad Ghost Town USA palette. It has lots of dupes of what you were looking for or talking about. Sometimes I listen to an episode of your show and I’ll have a “girls night” where I put on make up while I’m listening and watching. I just used the nomad ghost town and saying to myself, “Yep I have that shade. Yep I have that shade. Yep that shade could work”. Lol. Maybe you should look at the new Nomad palette? I think it’s surprisingly high quality and a beautiful neutral color story.💛🤷🏻♀️💁🏻♀️ Just sayin’! 😉

Thanks for suggesting Dark Edit. I recently pulled out another Viseart palette and was once again amazed at how nice it looks and how great is is to work with. I have not seen my Dark Edit palette in a while, so I will be hunting for that. I too wanted this ABH palette, do I want to risk another disappointment? I have been caught up in FOMO before, and I’m going to resist giving in to consumerism. I am striving to settle into the brands that I like best and only in select color schemes.
Same! I let the fomo run its course, and know in the end it’s just makeup. I still have a lot of restraining to do, but we’re on the right track.
To be fair Hourglass face palette is more useful than a straight eyeshadow palette so your reasoning is sound 🤭
With your Viseart and the ND Yucca palette, you've got Fall Romance covered. Visually I can't tell you used all Viseart.

My favorite "FALL PALETTES" which I have out-are ND'S BRONZE and SUNSET Palettes-perfect FALL PALETTES IMO!
I am also Palette FASTING--LOL did get the ND I NEED A NUDE which is gorgeous--but honestly I have literally ALL the SHADES anyone could ask for--using what I got!
ND Bronze is lovely, and I think Zendo has some autumn vibes as well. My all time is Metropolis!

So for me I don't have half these 🤣 but i have Jackie Aina's palette, one of Pat McGrath's holiday palette (i don't pretend i remember names) and huextopian dream as well as Huda's Empowered palette and i feel like i can make some things happen between these. Like i said I feel like the greens are truly what's missing. However that viseart dark mattes and dark edit are looking like some one and done types

I personally wish the palette gave richer tones. So many golds and the colors would end up muddy, though for deeper skin I’m sure it would look great. I just wanted more plums/greens
I think that’s why I like Rose Metals better, because it’s more balanced in that regard.

I have to break the palette habit too! The ABH palette didn’t interest me at all. I have so many of these shades in singles and in other palettes. I love fall colours. I don’t have Dark Edit but I do have so many other Viseart palettes that I could easily replicate ABH. I think Viseart has better quality TBH.
I really should shop my stash more often. I notice my owned palettes in new ways when I watch someone else is shopping their collection.
Patty does excellent work. She’s very inventive. I just watch her with the sound off so that I can focus on the colours and the application.

I loved the idea of this palette but the colour story didn’t grab me when I saw it. I’m so down for fall romance moments from my existing collection.
Right, when I read “Fall Romance”, I was crazy excited. Then I saw it and to be honest I don’t know what I was expecting? And perhaps it was because I have some many autumn inspired shades in my collection, what could have been done differently?
