OK So I need to comment before I even finish (4 mins lef)...This is the BEST series of interviews I have seen in a really long time. Even with the little amount of time you got with each one, you ask the most insightful questions!!!!! I love deep dives like this and the themes you picked up on and asked about the series kept me captivated. I definitely felt like the actors and writer appreciated it as well. Amazing interview!!
Theo was so freaking dumb. He sees two people locked up in a cage located in Love's bakery. Rather than react by helping them, he starts to defend Love. He has a phone on him. He could've called the police, but he decides to look for a key. WTF
I hate to say this but she had to put it on him really good.... The myth is that the crazy ones are the best as sex. It messed up his whole interpretation of things
Look, i totally agree with you, he was dumb as fuck. But let’s also discuss the part where Theo is a teenager who has a hideous relationship with his mom, which we didn’t get to see much of that, but we can guess it was the case, cause he refused to go live with her and overall be with her. He also had a distant relationship with his dad, no friends, and he was actually gaslighted several times (if not all the time) by Love. She sort of groomed him. And good sex could also be a plus for him to get codependent with her. He was the perfect victim for a narcissist and a sociopath, such as Love. He is vulnerable, and an easy target. That’s why he loses touch with actual reality and decides to blindly believe in everything Love says, cause he’s being manipulated. I’m 19 and definitely wouldn’t be as blind as him if it was my case instead of Theo’s. But i kinda sympathize with him because of how much of validation he needs and how he thinks he fulfills it with Love, by doing anything for her. It’s really messed up when you analyze Theo’s perception of what true love is, ironically, with the character of ‘Love’.
@@jessicalorc9028 Theo was a spoiled brat. He wasn’t a 10 year old kid. He was a MAN, capable of impregnating a woman, capable of knowing right from wrong. He knew having any type of sexual relationship with a married woman was wrong. He knew killing a innocent human being is wrong. Yet, you want to create an excuse for him. There are hundreds of millions of 19 year olds suffering from poverty, trauma, violence, etc across the world, while Theo was living in an expensive neighborhood, inside an expensive home, with his father who has money. This is what happens when you’re ungrateful to the blessings you were given by God when you didn’t even request to be given such blessings.
@@lovehumanity7139 Yeah, totally agreed on that. As you said, he clearly was a spoiled teenager. And yes, he’s old enough to differentiate right from wrong. But even tho ur completely right when you said that there’s a lot of people who have it way worse than him, the fact that he has privileges doesn’t mean he is now exempt from having daddy/mommy issues (or any sort of issues) or from being a victim of manipulation and/or gaslighting in any extent. I’m not justifying him, as I said before, he was definitely pretty dumb in his decision making during the show. I was just giving my insight in why he behaved the way he did, and trying to understand the writing, narrative and dynamic of the character. I tend to do that a lot while watching shows, movies or even reading a book. I’m always psychoanalyzing characters cause it gives you more depth and, as i said, insight, on why the character is portrayed the way it is :))
@@jessicalorc9028 I agree with you. Theo could possibly have parental issues, where he feels neglected due to his father working long hours and his mother and father not being married. I feel like Theo’s parents have not realized the psychological and emotional damages their parenting or perhaps divorce have had on Theo. Nevertheless, Theo could also do his part in self-medicating himself by coming to the realization that divorces happen and parents can become too busy to give you attention, thus, Theo could try to understand the shortcomings of his parents, if any. The absence of a parent or both parents, doesn’t necessarily damage a child psychologically, emotionally and/or physically nor does the presence of a parent or both parents, make a child more healthier psychologically, emotionally and/or physically.
Survived the poison AND the fire? Yeah I don't think that's gonna happen. Also they already had Candace in season 2 you know, the ex who survived his attack and then tried to catch him, it would be kind of repetitive to do that again.
@@jessriley135 yeah, like honing in on the fact that if Joe keeps making the same mistakes, the same shit will haunt him. But idk it might be weird to kill Love off so perfectly for her to come back, eh.
Loved this season and so glad you got to interview them!! I relate so hard to Joe and love, minus the murder lol just finally broke up with my ex right before this came out and the dismissive avoidant (Joe/ my ex) and anxious attached (Love/ me) is such a toxic and predictable pattern if you don’t have self awareness. This season actually helped me see things more clearly for myself and solidified my choice to move on and care for myself.

Erika Bridgewater 100% - my gut feeling tells me she will, there’s definitely an easter egg in episode one- the three book titles 📚 borrowed by the neighbour while Joe’s watching : The fifth season , Gone Girl and Seabiscuit - are the writers telling us she will possibly comeback in a future season ? If you look each plot theme of these three books: A. The fifth season : Disaster, Violence, and Survival B. Gone girl : Dishonesty , Manipulation , Marriage , Media , Misogyny. C. @@lenyaya3534 I don’t think it’s sexism, they clearly make Joe a more sympathetic character to justify him being the main and continuing to each and every season. Love hurt/killed a lot of people impulsively. Joe genuinely only killed one person and arguably the person was terrible, everyone else was out of survival and because of Love.
Don't let it stress you out too much. I feel the same way when I look at comment threads on this and other videos but there is so much stupidity out there and each time we go into the comments we invite it into our house. That's when I just close my laptop and call it a day lol.... I did want to add one other observation though. I think that the sympathy towards Joe could've in part been fueled by the constant flashbacks from his childhood. I don't remember if they did that for Love and thus it made it harder to empathize. I don't doubt that there is sexism in the fandom though
I've seen fans have a double standard favoring Love and other fans have the double standard but favoring Joe. It's on both sides. In reality, they have both done horrific things and neither of them have always had pure intentions. I'd say they were on the same level of evil last season. However, Joe was the only one genuinely trying to "tame the beast" this season. He didn't want to kill anyone. It seemed like Love was willing to kill the entire town. The only person Joe killed this season was a monster who was tormenting Marienne and trying to strip every good thing from her life. And he let a lot of Ryan's horrible actions slide before realizing he would NEVER stop tormenting her as long as he was alive. In the end, he was the one willing to let go of someone he loved to protect him. So, they are both twisted, dark and selfish people, but Joe improved a little and Love became a lot more dangerous. There's nothing sexist about making a distinction between them. He definitely didn't treat her right, though and he's a hypocrite. And obviously he's still a creep, trying to stalk Marienne.
Joe is always thinking about how he wants to become a better person and get over his past. He obviously is doing a pretty terrible job, and his actions are still horrible, but it's visible how he is trying to improve. In season 2, he actually let Will leave the cage, despite the fact that killing him would be safer. In season 3, he tries to deal with every situation without murder. He still invades people's houses, stalks and manipulates them, but he isn't just killing everyone who gets in his way. While Love is just impulsive, being rude and aggressive towards anything that mildly annoys her. She will axe someone and cry over the phone for help, like she is the victim. She is always drowning in self indulgence and self pity, never considering her violent actions as mistakes. Don't get me wrong. Again, Joe is fucked up. A perverted serial murderer, stalker and absolute creep. But the fact is that, compared tô Love, he was usually a lot more reasonable with his actions this season. I seriously don't think people should be defending either of them, tbh
