    I like watching the salts recrystallize. It's the best part. Just caught it at the end.

    Should have given Photonicinduction a call, he'd have powered that in seconds.

    Personally, I'd worry about the lamp resting on the cold metal support in case it should create a local thermal stress point and cause the envelope to implode. Impressive lamp though!

    Oh what I would go through to get my hands on one of these, here in the states 1.5kw is the best I can do. Excellent work sir.

      well... 1.5kW is the best a standard socket can do... those dryer sockets though... DAAAAAYUM they pack a wallop!

      Having fired up "only" a 5kW halogen, which was quite staggering... I can't imagine what a 10kW would be like in person!!!

    20A, but the mains fuse in the plug had to be "upgraded" for this, probably using the good old M6 stud fuse.

    It’s so sad that many stadiums are replacing these with LEDs. LEDs make the game look artificial on TV.

    Jealous how easily you can get that kind of power from wall sockets over there.

      16amp & 8amp sockets are normal thing in most of asia. Here we have round pin plugs and the large one can do 16amp & smaller one can do 8amp. Anything more requires hard wiring to electrical box. There aren't many loads that can pull more than 16amps at 240v. ,
      Only the water pump (which is 2hp) , 3x 76000btu pannasonic vrf & a 3phase 2hp exhaust fan motor is hardwired to electrical box in my home..

    • @gsp911
      @gsp911 2 года назад +2

      Where I live, most ordinary households have 3 phases and 16A in the house.
      That's a hell of a light bulb, holy smokes.

    At 5:30 is that the halides solidifying at the bottom inside the tube? Nice video!

    • @FrontSideBus
      @FrontSideBus  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, that is the molten metal salts at the bottom. Not all the halide dose is evaporated on the majority of halide lamps. You can actually see them vaporising when it starts.

    • @dennis8196
      @dennis8196 2 года назад +1

      LED's that probably cost 1/30 of the cost of a gas bulb, less non-directional wasted light (less light pollution), less energy waste running them, less maintenance (provided they are not over-driven). And will last year's (again, if good quality, under-driven). While they take a bit of adjusting to, they are doing an important job.

    • @Wyatt_James
      @Wyatt_James 2 года назад

      1/30th? Sounds a little optimistic. A lot optimistic, even. However, even 1/2 of the cost (which seems more realistic) is quite a good savings at that scale. Still unfortunate that LED is taking away all of the interesting lights though.

    • @dennis8196
      @dennis8196 2 года назад

      @@Wyatt_James typically you would be looking at between 1/2 MW to just over 1MW for flood lighting a stadium using halogen lamps, monthly maintenance. With LED lamps it's a tenth of the power consumption but after initial installation the maintenance costs plummets to 1 inspection every 3 or 4 years provided they are not overdriven and have adaquate cooling they can last for years without needing to be replaced.
      This where they cost 1/30th of the old lights.

      @@Wyatt_James misread their poor grammar and lower case as typos. Still my point is still valid, it's 1:18 cheaper. And who is this 'we', 'they' made a comment and 'we' are the responses.
