Everything has its price. I suggest the owner has considerable resources... I've seen a few engines as still art works, but working engines are of course usually mated to a chassis, so there are very few
Were I the lucky owner, I think I'd host an annual celebration for all my friends & relatives where the centerpiece would be starting & running of this lovely work of art for a few minutes, followed by rides in my 400GT. What a special thing of automotive history this is, and what unimaginable fun it would be to live that life.
What a lovely project. It makes me happy to see that even in these difficult times there are a few clients with the focus on their car’s history and the money necessary to see these projects through to fruition. Pete clearly has the skills and patience to work on such a fragile engine, and what a lovely project to be involved with. Bravo.
Pete is a genius ! Ian you never seem to stop amazing all of your subscribers with the talents you have within your workshop. Love the way you celebrate the very talented people who you employ !
Dear Mr. Tyrell, everything is here. We saw a gold Miura, a red Iso Grifo, a beautiful Ferrari 250, an AM DBS (it had a special place on my bedroom wall mostly because of the Persuaders). I think it was the era of the most beautiful cars ever. The only thing missing is the Maserati Ghibli (AM115). Please don't forget it, coupe, cabrio, whatever, I am hypnotized with it for over fifty years.
@@BKMDano17 #6 of 123 ever made. The block was the only spare one known to even exist. I’ve seen BMC and they do outstanding work but something like this is only attempted when someone has an inside at the factory. No, they don’t do those “all the time”.
Yet another drool worthy video from Mr. Tyrrell. This channel deserves 10x the 166K subscribers it currently has. It is 24 carat automotive gold. Just look around that workshop!
Wow, I can only imagine the elaborate journey to get this rare masterpiece running again, and the ambiguity of this project after your first reaction of 'absolutely not' understanding that the block has warped and some vital parts have worn... Quite the deliberation it all must have been to get it going... Hopefully, nobody in the far future will ever going have it in their right mind to actually fit it back in a car... People with money sometimes can do things not always the wisest perhaps, but let's have faith that this does remain a display piece now only. Thank you for sharing this marvel with us!
That engine is an automotive kinetic artwork that would be the centerpiece of any museum in which it was housed. There's a good argument for describing it as a musical instrument, worth preserving and celebrating even if it had never been put in a car.
Not only "a piece of history" but also "a piece of automotive and engineering art". A great achievement to produce such a fantastic display device Iain.
It's great when a mechanical piece of art functions as it is suppose to. When you first unveiled the engine it was a feast for the eyes. The cam covers and the trumpet intakes stood out first, but when you started going around the engine (with explanation and camera work) all the other pieces of the engine completed the picture. The throttle linkage almost looks like it was a stock part of the original engine. Good work! When the engine was started, oh my what a symphony of sound(s). I had on a pair of headphones so as not to disturb my wife who was reading in the same room, and could clearly hear not only the exhaust, but also the intake noise of those beautiful carburetors. Thanks for a very informative history of the engine. The engine stand is a great looking display device that allows one to see and hear that great engine. As always a great informative video.
Beautiful stationary engine ART . Reminds me of the Chinetti N.A.R.T. showroom Greenwich Connecticut back in the late 1960's. They had many race engines on display stands sprinkled about the current racing sports and formula cars. An amazing sight. Thanks Iain, great presentation. 🇺🇲
Iain is no pushover & there’s a deal of justified pride. But I agree, he very much appreciates & admired his top talent. I’ve seen him in conversation with his bodywork and paint expert, his trimmer who knows how to fettle every detail of a vintage cars interior and his engine / engineering expert. What a rare coming together of artefacts, customers with deep pockets and people, under Iain’s leadership, with extraordinary knowledge, ability and attitude, all resulting in moving machinery that is perhaps the pinnacle of human mechanical engineering and aesthetics. The fact that the flow of funds is part of the great banking and money swindle system, I can just about look past. There are numerous, far less worthy things upon which the loot could be assigned! It’s quite hard to make very large amounts of money while keeping your soul and conscience intact. Not saying it’s impossible, but close to. I made an amount several rungs down from what Iain’s wealthiest customers will have. I refused to do things I knew or felt were just wrong, to the extent I frustrated my board and they’d have got rid of me early if they could have. However, they were well aware that my reputation for being a straight shooter was a chunk of the value proposition. I reminded them of that. These shenanigans convinced me, if I even needed convincing, that all my investors were ruthless and mostly deeply unpleasant people who, in an ideal world, you’d not spend any time with. I was fortunate that the company was acquired for a phenomenal sum (not negotiated by me, I’m hopelessly an open book & consequently useless for things like that). Some of my investors thought if I’d created a lot of value once, I could probably do it again. As important, lots of other people would believe such hype. However, I wasn’t faintly interested in doing it all again. I didn’t want a yacht. I know people who have done serial transactions and the sums can be eye watering, with people who look exactly like you and me walking away with hundreds of millions of dollars.
Even though you gents did all the masterful work i have to say Thank You to the owner of the car and engine for funding and pushing you all to revive this rare engine to its former glory!
Awesome job, Pete. That engine sounds a lot like the V12 Packard engines the US Navy used it its PT Boats. Pretty impressive sound when all 3 are at full beans.
Fabulous engineering of this masterpiece by the Italians (Lamborghini). Amazing attention to detail in the meticulous restoration of this by Iain and his team. Really enjoy these series’ of exotica restoration - it’s actually amazing that we get this streaming material for free!! I am sure Iain has been well compensated by the owner of the Lambo. First class this site.
I really like seeing engines on display once they are classics. Great video and amazing work to get to that stage. Really like how you let your guys get the credit and do the demo run.
I'm very happy you were persuaded into doing the dumbs, very typical for engineers not to fix what cannot be repaired anyway. But it's great to have this piece of history on display Iain, and like you stated, there's nothing like outperforming Ze Dzjermanz on show. Great job folks!
Wonderful Iain ! Your passion for Lamborghini is palpable . I guess this wasn't the most profitable undertaking but we all know sometimes passion before profit . Thankyou Sir .
What a fantastic looking engine, and the interesting story of how it came to be like it is now. Yet again you and your team manage to preserve another piece of history Iain. Cheers, Bob
So cool how the carb / intake ports are located between the camshafts! Also - Did anyone else notice the carb covers jumping around on the lower shelf of the cart? Looks like they were having fun.
Such an amazing job getting the original 10006 engine restored and working. A symphony to the ears. Where else can you see this kind of content, I don't think you can. So good Mr. Tyrrell and team
So, the block had clearly been 'round the block', but with your skills (and others' Iain) you managed to breathe new life into it. Sheer skill, I call it. Nice one!
Id have that engine in my lounge - what a talking point and interesting piece of history. Classic engines, like this, just look good also. Modern engines, whilst good at what they do, just look a mess of pipes, wires and plastic covers to me.
Mr, Tyrrell, lovely easy start up - a work of art this engine, fantastic to witness! Another great video presentation, yet I regard the Italian Goddess video your Nr. 1! I think I have to watch it again!
That’s one of the most exquisitely analogue sounds I’ve ever heard. The world’s a better place for the existence of people & things like this. Its speaking to me in a language that a number of digital natives won’t understand. Thank you, gents!
How beautiful to spend the time money and effort to get what was otherwise a static warped block to purr, to sing again as it was meant to. That song would have been lost to history if it weren't for Iain's contacts and the owners love and respect for such a rare work of automotive history and art. Like rebuilding the Acropolis to its former glory. Well done Iain and team kudos to the 'I won't take NO for an answer' owner.
That backdrop, two Miuras, two Countach's, Espada, Diablo, Testarossa? Possibly a Grifo on the right...holy moly.
Spotting the cars in the background 🤯 beggars belief that there is such automotive historical significance in one place.
I think there’s a few subscribers who are glad your customer persuaded you to rebuild that piece of history 🙂👍

What an opportunity but more importantly a restored piece of history, a true legacy project. 👏🏽
Has Mrs Tyrrell noticed the space made in the living room where the side board used to be? 😅
