Picking tomatoes with a blush before critters eat them. More familiar they get the more destructive they are. Time to eat chicken and trap them with the bones.
Your' yard is a jungle. Ha, ha, ha, ha. I understand. Looks like you and your husband love plants and that's good. I have family members that also love outside plants. I love the cherry tomatoes, I also call them "ball tomatoes." Because it seems like their shaped like a circle or ball. We have groundhogs here (rather than raccoons). You're right, they have more groundhogs & they tear up property. It's bad. We've tried to get people to trap them, & we didn't have the money. They've dug holes under our apartment building & in our yard.
I feel your raccoon pain. We had grapes growing on a trellis over the deck attached to our house. The raccoons always got the grapes just as they were ripe. The raccoons also pooped all over our deck, climbed the trellis and fought and pooped on our roof during the night. Three years in a row we paid the raccoon catcher to trap and rehome them ($75/raccoon.) At least we thought that he was rehoming them, but he told us that he was really killing them because raccoons are territorial and you can't take a raccoon from one place and put them in another without the resident raccoons killing them. We also discovered that as soon as our area was emptied of raccoons more moved in. In the end, we cut down our grapes. We also had trouble with them climbing trees and breaking open the bird feeders so my husband greased the pole holding the main fly through feeder and that has so far stumped them. The year i planted garlic in my veg bed the raccoons dug the cloves up so many times that fall that I finally quit. They don't seem to bother the rest of the veg garden, so keeping my fingers crossed on that one. Laurie
