Using that stove is a learning curve. Using found wood there are 2 ways to use it. The way you used in this video is called the constant feed method and as the name implies you will be constantly feeding it. The method that everyone suggest to use is to fill the stove up with wood fuel (this is important do not go past the secondary air injection holes), and light the top of the fuel pile so that the flames burn down the wood. This method is what the stove was designed for as it allows for the longest burn time without introducing more fuel into it. That works surprisingly well with wood pellets. Though some consider this flame to be a bit hot for cooking. If you can find a bag of wood pellets for heating (Typically 40 pounds for less than $10), you can get around 40 burns with that (one burn is around 1 pound of wood pellets). The burn will happen in 2 stages, the wood gas stage and the coals stage. The wood gas stage can last up to 1 hour and the coals stage can last up to 1 hour. If you can find animal bedding / cat litter for a similar price then go for it. They are typically made from pine and are great for cooking. Wood pellets are very interesting and counter to what people might think. Wood pellets made from soft wood have more BTU's than hardwood pellets. Soft wood has more resins in it so it burns hotter. Wood pellets made from hard wood are good in introducing wood flavor into food. in short Hardwood pellets are made for cooking, softwood pellets are made for heating.
Yes, the holes in the upper portion mean it is a wood gasifier which creates a convective fume flow that make will burn clean and efficient when lit from top.
hey trish! great video! there are a lot of people who say do it this way or that. having used and built several of these stoves myself, all i say is if it gets your food cooked, you did it right. it is recommended to use a top down burn for this particular model due to the lack of a feeding port at the top to add more fuel, but if you dont mind taking your pot or pan off the burner for a sec to add another few sticks, it doesnt make a huge difference. foods cooked+ funs been had= success.
Great tip! Thanks! I will give it a try again for sure. We are considering trying our hand at making one too, eventually. Watch this Saturday's video to see a different product review that I have really enjoyed so far!
I consider this stove to be one of my favorite preps. Stack the fuel vertically, keep firewood length at about 3”, top down fire burn. Wait about 3 minutes for flame to completely gasify before placing your pot on the stove. This greatly reduces the amount of soot and carbon buildup on the pot. You can expect to have at least 40 minutes of burn time without having to add any additional fuel. Absolutely no need for a stove with a cut out on the side used to add additional fuel.
Yes put your wood in vertically be sure to stay below the holes of the inner ring as far as lighting it try using cotton balls with vaseline and kind of pack it between your wood just to get your flame started a little deeper
THIS IS A WOOD GASIFIER STOVE, BEST USE SMALL PIECES OF WOOD I USE CAT LITTER WOOD PELLETS, THE GASES FROM THE WOOD IS DRAWN UP THE INSIDE WALL AND OUT OF THE HOLES AT THE TOP ,KNOWN AS A SECONDARY BURN
I'm trawling reviews as I'm ordering one for a project, I like the honest actual 'Oh shit, THIS is how it works...' approach over the 'I have used this a billion times and don't share basic info because I assume you know...' style. Keep on keepin on guys! Also, where is part two please? Can't see in your catalogue 👍
Haha! I am kind of a fly by the seat of my pants kind of person and do try to give my own first impression on a product using what the product gives me. Here is part two of the review: ruclips.net/video/2uyOFHhHvdc/видео.html and as a bonus, here the Ohuhu is in another comparison video: ruclips.net/video/mAZhDREWKqA/видео.html Got any product suggestions to review? Thanks for watching too!

Wow! Thanks so much for this great information!
Pack your wood vertically below the vent holes in the top and light it from the top. Less smoke and burns longer.
Thanks for the hint! I will try that.

Remember that it is a gasification stove . Not a rocket stove.
Yep, thanks!

Please watch some videos on how to light this stove.
Some of my viewers have given some hints on how to make it easier for sure! Thanks for watching!
