For two years I’ve been developing 18 acres of raw land and turning it into my dream home and homestead from scratch and with barely any experience.
This week I’m roofing! We’re putting up metal roof panels to get ready for inspection and it has been a huge learning curve. And the pain of building wound me up in the hospital.

I'm only 8 min in, but I do have a little advice that my sister gave me which I didn't want to follow at first, lol but once I did back in 2001, I've only had my back down 2x since. I had it go out a few times a yr for no reason since 8th grade, and usually was down for 3 days each time. Anyhow, Real Simply Put, I now do a 20 min AM Yoga session right at home as soon as I wake up, and then a 20 min PM session prior to bed utilizing Rodney Yee GAIAM for beginners Yoga process. Now you can even find him on RUclips back then I bought the CD. Most people don't understand how excruciating that kind of pain is, LOL, BUT, I've only had 2 major back episodes since 2001, compared to 2-3 every year. Just really felt bad for ya when I saw your pain; been subscribed for a while to you and your husband's channel here, Just A Great FUN Channel. Hope This Helps. Have Fun with the Build!! - BC

The worst pain in my back I ever experienced was when I picked up my foot in the shower to wash it, all the crap I did in the military ,police work and as a firefighter and my back went out washing my foot. I understand your pain and I suggest you get a back brace to keep your back in the correct alignment while lifting. You can leave it sort of loose when not bending or lifting. I found this helpful. Keep up the good work!

Golly my dear friend, this video sure has it's highs and lows doesn't it. It literally broke my heart to see you in such pain, I just so wanted to zoom up to Canada to help my favourite You Tuber but Air New Zealand don't do direct flights. I am so pleased you have people to help in your life like Madison, Haley and of course Craig, who actually looked quite respectable today. It's also a bonus to have a friend with an excavator. It certainly does get exciting as you get the house more and more weatherproof. Every week with you is a major adventure, so thank you Biata, stay safe please.

If you can find it , try to get a back brace adjustable with adjustable straps over your shoulder. It's very flexible a round your waist to adjust how tight you want the belt. Serious suggestion.

Goodmorning, Biata and Craig. Thank you, Craig, for helping a lot - you make great content, too 👍👍👍
Having those days, where weather or other stuff gets in the way of your planned work, just happens. Getting some of the other, perhaps sizewise minor chores done instead can be very fulfilling, though. I particularly enjoy trips to the dump/landfill - that is in Denmark, we got rid of actual landfills a good 40 years ago. Since then, all waste has to be sorted in different types and disposed of in relevant containers at the recycling plant. Like "metal", "hard pladtics", "soft plastics", "non pressure treated wood", "pressure treated wood", "paper", "cardboard", "insulation" and so forth.....
Never mind. Cleaning the work site is good, and you guys got a lot done. 👍👍👍

Don't be surprised if your back goes out again. Farming - mine went out several times. I literally couldn't move! One time my little niece had a tea party on my chest as I lay on the living room floor. Dishes, cups --everything. Once I quit going to the chiropractor, my back quit going out. A massage is much better. A back brace is good. I know your pain! You inspire me! Now I'm 71 and a 'useless eater' but I love your grit!! Just know that it may go out again. Just bending over to pick up a pencil can do it. Keep your phone with you. I finally figured out to pick up something close to my body and twisting while doing it is worse. I'll go back to my nap now. 🙂

Im glad you are ok, the last time I did my back I couldnt walk for a week, had to crawl around the house, after 7 days of not being able to walk I decided to sleep on the timber floors with nothing in between me and the boards, I slept like that for 2 nights and it worked, people really need to not take their backs for granted , over reaching causes more bad backs then lifting heavy weights, you get any tougher Biata you'll rust girlie. Im surprised it aint snowing your way by now, you wont have to much more time to get the roof completed.

Another tip. In 7-10 years, before you start getting moisture intrusion, get the next size up of roofing screw. Go up and replace each screw with a new, slightly larger size that has a new washer. Takes 1/2 a day, but can save you an absolute nightmare if you get moisture in and have to deal with mold and subroof material replacement. Enjoying your build, great work.

Biata I know the pain. I hurt my back and had to walk around for a week bent over. Pain shooting down my leg. Had to have a spineal tap and xrays months later. Found a pinched nerve . When they injected the die in my spine it wiggled it back into place. Remember Rome wasn't built in a day and your home is your Rome. Oh the best thing to use for an ice pack is frozen corn or peas. Then after using them a few times cook them for dinner and use a new bag. A tip from my physical therapist. Roof looks great. Lots of love from Washington state

Damn you are tough!! I feel you 1000% on the back pain...but mine shows up on Xrays and MRI's. I'm glad yours doesn't! With all of the climbing, twisting, bending, lifting, lugging and tugging that you do it's no doubt that something went sideways in there. Even trying to tough it out, there comes a point when the pain takes over.
About a month and a half ago a similar thing happened to me. Suddenly I could barely stand, barely walk, couldn't pick up my son (he's only 30lbs) and everything hurt intensely. The chiropractor told me to get in there and he had fun beating me up for awhile and he was loving it. After a couple rounds of that and a few days of frequent ice packs it improved. Ice is the trick, not heat even though heat feels better.
Hi Craig....you're in high demand so start charging double.

I can only imagine how important it is to you to finish that darn roof, but please be careful. That back isn’t going to magically heal itself. It’ll haunt you for a life time. The roof is looking great through. Prayers out to you that it’s finished soon (with some help I hope)

Please take care of your back! I overworked myself, herniated a disc and it all but crippled me for months.

Biata, take care of your back, and as much as you want to get things done, slow and steady is the way to go. The roofing is looking good and each day is that much closer to completion.😊

As a life long back suffer I can empathize. Back pain can be seemingly insurmountable at times. Take care of yourself.

Biata, I hope that you, your family and your back are doing well! Please, please, please take care of your back!!! Coming from someone that ended up having to retire 10 years ago and had to have major back surgery, my concern for you is well placed. I truly enjoy your channel and hope to be watching your content for a long time to come....but you won't be able to do that if you can't function! Not trying to scold you or anything...just coming from a place of concern. I experience back pain and do not wish it on you....just remember the old saying, "don't know what you got till it's gone" Be safe and keep up the good work!!!
