Honestly, it is getting a little bit rougher at most, but that’s OK. We do need a rough coaster since we lost the real wildcat. I agree don’t change it. The only improvements that need to make are making the races closer between thunder and lightning. Otherwise we should be good.
Keep it wooden but massive overall.
Agreed I think that 2 RMCs across the midway is way overkill
Yeah having the two GCIs (technically three) was a little much, imagine if it was RMC… yikes.

I visited Hersheypark for the first time last summer and I loved this ride. Fun layout and shockingly smooth for its age. Hope they just maintain it well and keep it as-is for many years to come.
I don't want to insult anyone who thinks that this should happen, but I've said it before and I'll say it again. RMCing Lightning Racer is quite possibly the single dumbest thing that Hersheypark could do.
It's the same thing as when people were talking about Cedar Point getting a B&M Giga. Why the hell would CP want to build a ride that both directly competes with, and makes completely obsolete, one of their top attractions? There is a huge difference between parks like Hershey and Kennywood getting multiple hypers, or even parks like Fiesta Texas getting two RMCs, because those rides offer entirely different ride experiences from each other. You're never gonna get people saying "why should I ride Iron Rattler when I can ride Wonder Woman instead?" because they're completely different experiences.
If they were to do this, not only would they be overfilling a gap in their lineup that they already filled with Wildcat, but they would have two coasters, on the same midway mind you, that look and act incredibly similarly. And if that were to happen, well then the whole issue of LR making Wildcat irrelevant would come right back.
Why not have Gravity Group just come in and retrack it like they did with Grizzly? It would make the ride better and more popular, and it wouldn't give them a second, completely unnecessary hybrid coaster.

I love lightning racer. I pray they never RMC this lol.
However I hope they make team thunder and lightning actually have fair matches. Cause it’s always one sided, and the red side (I forgot which one that was, lightning I think,) always loses. They just gotta fix that and it should be 10/10
It used to be 50/50 but the past few seasons have gotten lob-sided.

I feel like whichever side wins does so for the day. I've observed it doing its opening trial runs and that tells me which side is going to win all day.

I love lightning racer, it holds a special place in my heart too. My dad would have us go to the back of the park first and make our way forward in order to out maneuver the lines so its my first coaster due to the line lol

I agree...leave it alone. I am more concerned about LR being torn down to add to the Boardwalk. However, I do wonder if the relationship between GCI and HP is damaged due to Wildcat's Revenge (Even if the known issue with Wildcat was the PTC trains it opened with did sooooo much damage)
I have to imagine it damaged the relationship somewhat given Wildcat was GCIs first coaster
I agree that RMCing it is a bad idea, however, I would like to see them retrack it with Titan track (keep the layout the same), or use the new prefabricatedtrack like found on the retracked portions of Grizzly. Then it wouldn't be so bad with the shuffling and jackhammering.

I thought they should’ve RMCed it instead of wildcat. Dueling RMC would’ve been a capacity monster

I think Lightning Racer is a perfect ride for families. I can ride it with my wife in one train, and the kids in the other. Plus it’s a very comfortable ride and you can’t beat a wooden coaster that doesn’t kill your back and neck.

I've ridden L.R. more than any other roller coaster. It's the only one that I ride every time that I go to Hersheypark. It has definitely gotten quite rough, and I hope that they can make it smooth again and keep it exactly the same (but even out the duel; the green side wins almost every time.) Don't go throwing inversions in there; I liked Wildcat, before it got painful, better than Revenge.
Yeah, there is absolutely NO way that Lightning Racer is gonna be RMCed, lol.
Personally I like Lightning Racer as it is. I think it is still smooth enough and I don't think Hershey needs 2 RMC's
I agree... would be open to some minor GCI Titan track touches if needed years down the line but that's it
I think the Titan track would be better but they have a fantastic rmc already

I have a huge soft spot for LR. I was one of the first riders opening day 2000 waiting 2hr for it. Really hope they can keep it going as long as possible.

I love Lightning Racer, it's a bit rough but maybe give it the Ghostrider treatment with slightly tighter turns but I'd rather see Storm Runner get new lap bar restraints first!

Something needs to be done to lightning racer. It is the roughest ride in the park right now imo

I agree. Last time I rode it was unbearablely rough. Definitely not the ride it was ten years ago.
As great of a ride it is, you said it yourself: there is never a line for this. They need to figure out some way to breathe new life into that side of the park one way or the other. More food/flat rides or something if not upgrade the ride itself.
Even just another dark ride to replace Laff Trakk, the Cupfusion crowd can finally be manageable.

I don't think it's needed but I think Lightning Racer's days are unfortunately numbered. Sitting right beside the waterpark that the GP love and a strained relationship with GCI (they have kept those Wildcat trains in storage so they can service Lightning Racer themselves, without GCI's involvement) it only makes too much sense. I'd say give it 10 years but it'll eventually happen. I have nostalgia for it too so it also saddens me to say that.
Lightning Racer is aging way better than Wildcat. It is very smooth as far as wooden coasters go, and it is a fun staple to the park. That's not even taking into account that Wildcat's Revenge is right next to it. This question shouldn't even be asked for at least another decade. If Hershey removes this ride anytime before then they will probably not see many people being happy.

I completely agree with your points, but disagree too...I feel like before WC was RMCd, Hershey maybe could've RMCd LR which would allow another unique (dueling) RMC to the collection and then WC could be turned into something completely different. Maybe a dive or wing...? Then Hershey would have 2 great new coasters to add to their outstanding, diverse lineup 😀
Nice video though, I can tell a lot of thought was put into it! My family and I love Hershey and enjoy going there a bunch! What's your favorite coaster at Hershey?

2 rmcs in the same park is way overkill, just like 2 gcis literally feet from each other was. i think it could use a full retrack tho

Maybe there are higher stress areas that could use some work. More than likely, they would take it out because it takes a lot of space and requires a larger crew than just about every other ride at the park

I hope they don't..wildcat needed that treatment but lighting racer is still smooth yet still rough enough to be exciting and is the one thing my sisters CAN ride that's not one of the city coasters😭

I'm sorry but I disagree that Lighting Racer is aging well. It seams to be getting rougher and rougher every year. My last ride was just like old Wildcat.
I get the nostalgic reasons for leaving it alone but id love a dualing rmc coaster within the sweetest place on earth so im kinda torn on this idea

As a coaster nerd that prefers the higher thrills, I would much rather prefer a dueling rmc, especially if they themed it to chocolate vs peanut butter like the Xtreme cup challenge was like but for a race.
Though, the Hershey fanboy in me doesn’t want lightning racer touched other than basic refurbishment. It currently has a key role in Hersheys lineup and if it became a hybrid, I feel like it would take all the attention away from Wildcats Revenge. From a business standpoint and Hershey nostalgia lover, keep it as it is 😂

I could see how you'd consider two RMC's in the park since they already have two hyper coasters. If anything more was coming from RMC to Hershey park it would have to be a T-Rex, Singe Rail or a Wild Moose.
