The U.S. Postal Service has a vast infrastructure that could be adapted to create an “Internet of Postal Things” (IoPT), essentially an extensive digital network capable of increasing efficiency, lowering costs, generating revenue, and improving customer service, according to new research from the Postal Service Office of Inspector General (OIG).
Working with IBM, the OIG identified more than a dozen IoPT applications the Postal Service could develop, such as a mailbox that can securely accept and safely store a temperature-sensitive parcel. OIG and IBM also outline how the Postal Service could build an IoPT. Read the details in The Internet of Postal Things: go.usa.gov/3ApRB
