  • After two months of building, Emily's dinghy was ready to sail.
    In this video, Emily finishes sanding, varnishing, and the sail. Then we take it sailing, and show the happy ending and scenes from the entire process. Enjoy!
    Watch the whole build here: • Emily Builds a Sailboat
    Over the period of two months, Emily built a lightweight wooden boat, to be used as a sailing, rowing, and motoring dinghy for S/V Temptress. This model is a variation on an Eastport Nesting Pram (plans by Chesapeake Light Craft - CLCBoats.com). It weighs approximately 75 lbs, and is just under 8 feet long, made mainly of okoume mahogany.
    We are incredibly grateful to Chesapeake Light Craft for sending us free plans for this dinghy ($89 value), so we could share the build process with our RUclips viewers. Thank you to Ed and the team at CLC!

    I am a “stitch and glue” addict. I’ve built 2 kayaks, and have decided to build a CLC pram with the extra marine plywood I have. I do not know how to sail, and I think the pram will fit the bill. I purchased too much a few years ago for a skiff I built-finding marine plywood is difficult or non-existent in the land locked State of Idaho. Thank you for the series, and showing us how it was all done!

      @@Clarks-Adventure I'm thinking of building one - how do you like it as a yacht tender (is it really "tippy", can two adults really fit in it?).

    • @Clarks-Adventure
      @Clarks-Adventure  2 года назад +1

      For us, it's not a practical dinghy for two full sized adults to use every day. But no, it's not very tippy at all. In fact, we have not been able to tip it over yet. But we wouldn't want to carry a bunch of groceries or full gas cans in it. CLC does make larger dinghies that would probably make great tenders. -E

      I think that little boat could safely carry a lot. Not fast mind you but it has abilities that Emily hasn't really seen. She has always had a 12 foot boat to do big jobs with but in the past I've done a lot in boats like hers.

    Emily, its was very enjoyable watching you build F.I.N. The ONLY nesting, not nesting, nesting pram. After watching a few videos of other builders of this pram, I noted you hadn't read the plans, but these are lessons not mistakes. Great determination, dedication and skills too. The jigsaw queen! My plans are now on the way; same boat (I'll check the nesting part too) and maybe I'll record my build to help the next person; and get some tips too. I learnt a lot from watching you, so thank you for making this series. A year on and you're still inspiring others. Wherever you go next, if people ask what you do, you can say "I'm a boat build".
