Thanks for this valuable tip. I had fuel filter problems on my BX2350 as well. Another fuel issue that cost me lots of diagnostic $ because I didn't know is pine needles in the diesel tank. Eventually those accumulate and get stuck in the elbow to the fuel line - blocking fuel only during high engine load. Wondering if there's a sieve solution to place into the tank filler...

I would say the copy would be very close like this.

Think if I were to do this I'd go with the IFJF model. The Racor looks as if it were sitting around awhile to get rusty inside unless that was glue residue. Good comparison because we don't know what is inside these things. The case can hide a lot like the fact it may not have as much filter element inside even though it's a large case.

The Racor had 2003 on it. Your right the canister hides a lot. I wish I had a way to test the filter media. That would be very interesting. Thanks for watching!

I'm curious about the yellow tint of the racor filter. From my understanding, Racor filters have a hydrophobic coating on the media (they market it as "Aquabloc"). It allows petroleum based fluids to pass, but not water. Another popular product that separates water from fuel is something called "Mr Funnel", plenty of videos on youtube testing it. It has a mesh that allows petroleum based fluids to pass, but not water. The mesh on it also has a yellow tint. An easy, yet dangerous, way for someone to test is to use oil that has some emulsified water, pour the oil on a hot pan, and see how much it pops and sizzles. This is water boiling out of the oil. Run the oil through the filter and pour on the hot plate again. If there is no popping and sizzling, then the filter has separated the oil from the water. If it still pops and sizzles, than the filter did not separate the two. I cannot stress enough the dangers of having oil in proximity to heat sources. But this is one way a DIYer, without specialized equipment could test the filter's ability to effectively separate water from fuel. Wish I could think of a cheap way to test particulate filtration (micron), but I'm drawing a blank on that one, sorry.

That is a very good point about the coating on the Racor. You are probably right. The chinese filter may be as good except for that.

The Racor 120at in this video is an older revision and clearly surplus. The current Racor 120AT is $91.75 and has the clear plastic bowl with drain. The Racor replacement element (r12t) is around 17.50. So as the youtuber suggests buy the cheap Chinese filter for 35 and the Racor element for 17.50 for a total of 52.50.. What's more important saving 39 bucks or the peace of mind that your very expensive diesel injection system will have clean and dry fuel ? Dont waste you money on that cheap Chinese filter that could possibly detonate your engine. RACOR are overpriced and you know it .,The mark up is 80 % ...Using an original Racor filter but a copy housing means you have the best of both worlds .Can you justify the extortionate price of the racor housing ? NOPE
