    I installed the IFS kit on my 2006 Freightliner Thomas Built school bus we are converting to a Skoolie. It has a CAT C7 and the only problem i had installing the kit was routing the hoses. I ended up wrapping them with the plastic hydraulic line wrap and it seems to be working just fine. I will be putting some pics and video on my channel showing the install. I haven't been on the road with it yet and the directions advise to run at 55 for a bit but so far with a fresh oil and filter change it starts fine and I run it a couple times a week to keep it from just setting. Kit is fairly easy to install and George was fast to respond. Thank you Adept Ape for your videos.

    I purchased this kit after watching your review. Amazingly I do sleep better not thinking about a entire injector rebuild. Installed the system myself on a C7, fairly straight forward. Called owner he was very helpful and knowledgeable. My only concern is if someone else ever changes the filter for me is when they remove the filter housing that they secure the top half so it doesn't damage the rubber mounts on top from the twisting. Hearing the horror stories about HEUI systems I was ready to sell my RV until I installed the IFS kit. Just to do my best to make sure the HEUI system does not fail I change oil and filters every 5000 miles and only use Cat oil and filters 2007 Tiffin RV 350HP C7 . I also send off a sample of oil on every oil change I think when it comes time to sell a paper history of the oil will make a difference. A little OCD is a good thing.

    I installed the kit about a month ago. So clearly I invested in this idea. I wish Adept showed a how too.. as this does take some finesse. There are also variations on engines that make using the hoses and fitting supplied a challenge to connect and route. I have a 2006 build C9 to reference. In my case I had to have a hose made that had a different length 90 degree neck. The hose that came with it could not make the angles and clearance. I got my new hose at the local auto parts store, just beware to get a very high quality and pressure hose there are differences, one shop had a better hose than the other. The owner of IFS was very helpful and I did buy the additional hose, not willing to wait for him to ship me one. So just know you may not have any issues or may have to adjust.

  • @rprzen2099
    @rprzen2099 4 года назад +3

    You can just go to your local Parker Store and get a high pressure filter housing, fittings, and filter of same Micron rating as OE cat oil filter. Get hoses made for a lot less that $980. However you introduce the possibility of material from hoses breaking down damaging the injectors. I would have to mount this unit on the engine somehow and custom bend stainless tubing to make it really bullet proof. Also as far as the heui oil pump goes, I would just mount another spin on filter manifold and plumb it to the pump and engine possibly mount both filters side by side on a fabricated mount stand on engine and custom plumb both with stainless tubing.

    • @kfelix2934
      @kfelix2934 3 года назад +2

      I highly doubt you are going to get a high pressure filter housing for containing oil at 4k+ psi at Parker. Also why do all of that , when some one has package and design one that does it it. Just install it and route the hoses.

    That's a pretty common filter housing on medium and heavy equipment, usually used for filtering hydraulic pilot systems.
    Quality stuff for sure, if you have the room and $$ to run this setup then there are few downsides besides adding more complexity. But yea, pretty much only the most dedicated, proactive guys are going to spring for it.

    Is this kind of problem common on the Ford 7.3 PSD or the 6.0 PSD? I don't read that many articles on "Powerstrokehelp" about the HPOP sending metal through injectors.
    6:00 I'm sure an HPOP does produce wear metals throughout its life, much like every other engine part. Perhaps this filter does add something to injector life because of that.
    6:32 I guess the injectors could be hurt of the pressure drop post filter was too high.

    Hi there. I have a problem with a 06 ram Cummins 3500 turbo diesel, has 159,000k. I recently purchased the vehicle a couple months back and it has ran perfectly up to a few days ago. I purchased hot shots extreme diesel cleaner and boost, added it at the gas station then filled up the tank. I specifically did it exactly how it was instructed to do on the bottle, it ran fine for 2 days and only put 60 miles on it in those 2 days. For the last 3 mornings at first start up it smokes white smoke and idles terrible along with spitting and sputtering, last for about 2 minutes then smooths out, runs great after that. Do you have any suggestions or ideas what going on? Greatly appreciate it.

    • @JeffreyWhitney75
      @JeffreyWhitney75 5 лет назад +1

      @@jacobdukes4741 I ended up having to take the truck in do to it was getting worst at start up. The additive I put in the tank for surely did its job, so well infact that it loosened up sediment in the tank and everywhere else in the fuel system. Number 6 and one other injector got stuck open, now they have to be replaced. They reccomend replacing all injectors instead of replacing just the bad ones, so I am having them all replaced for a hefty price of 5 grand. That includes cleaning out the fuel tank and fuel lines the fuel system. Thanks for your input appreciate it.

    Is the filter media designed to withstand the 4K psi fuel pressure? If not I could see fuel possibly washing away (eroding) the filter media itself.

      This is designed for HEUI system. The engine oil is boosted to around 4,200 max through the HEUI pump used to intensify the fuel in the injector. Our system is designed for an operating pressure of 5,850 psi with a 4:1 safety factor.

    What happens if the HEUI pump fails? The filter plugs and begins to collapse (or explode depending on direction of flow) so is there a pressure switch or something to shut it all down before the filter media itself starts to get loose and cause even more problems?

    • @grouper1utube

      Long before anything happens to the element, your engine has already shut down. The ECM and IAP will throw codes indicating command verses actual is an error. The projected area of the element is four times a detonating HEUI pump particulate.

    I'm wondering if adding the inline filter between the HEUI pump and Injectors would cause increased oil pressure in the pump and would that cause a HEUI pump problem or failure. Also, would the oil filter cause decreased injector oil pressure and if so would that be detected by the ECM resulting in a trouble code?

Anyways, I've been tasked with ordering everything for it and rebuilding it. Awesome! A nice piece of history. However, I've never worked on anything older than a b model. I believe this engine in it is the D333. How can you identify it? Any info at all on the loader or engine? There is no tag and I cant find any others numbers stamped anywhere. I called Warner Cat and talked to a guy a bit, helpful, but not alot. There is a number stamped on the block I gave him, but he said it didnt help him identify anything.

    Could a heater in the unit aid in cold starts?

    • @grouper1utube
      @grouper1utube 5 лет назад +1

      Great question. We found no "cold" starting issues. Now, thats not to say we tested in the Yukon at minus 50f. However, if the engine oil pump can get oil to the HEUI then the oil will get to the injectors through the IFS. IF you use a coolant heater in extreme cold then the oil supplied by the engine to the IFS will "warm" the IFS within a few minutes. The IFS housing is capable of 6,000 psi with a 4:1 safety factor. a burst rating of 24,000 psi. Hoses are rated for 5,850 at 4:1 safety factor. The hose "Burst" sleeve is rated for 6,000 psi and in place so that in the event of a pin hole failure of a hose you do not "spray" engine oil on any exhaust component.
      As AA stated, a nuclear disaster wont affect this unit. Hope we never test that data!!!

    Hefty price though, I'm wondering if the air dog air fuel separator would be worth investing in for my 3406E as the same sort of insurance for injectors.

    • @AdeptApe

      I like the Airdog systems, I'm not sure if small amounts of air damage the injectors as much as some people think though. I've seen many engines run with million mile injectors with them consuming small amounts of air. Not saying they wouldn't have maybe lasted longer if the fuel system was in better shape though. Hard to say, but I like the idea.

    • @grouper1utube
      @grouper1utube 5 лет назад +1

      No different than your engine oil filter. The delta across the element is proportional to the amount of debris coming out of the HEUI.
      We tested the delta with ceramic transducers pre and post IFS to find no significant PD. Remembering we are measuring, for the most part, 850-4,200 psi relative to engine load and ECM command signal. By the time the element is "packing" with debris from a failing HEUI, your engine has already shut down or in low power mode throwing codes.

    Hi Josh, I'm in the process of importing into The Netherlands a LMTV with a C7 Acert engine. FML00019 I'm looking to get a registered with a EURO 4 rating. For this I need the specs of this engine. How can I get this? Already sent a question to Caterpillar, but did not receive any info yet. Can you help? Thanks in advance, Michel

      Hi there I just notices yoou comment explaining your plan. Did you go ahead with it? How are things coming? What was the purpose? I’m interested in these same trucks too. I’d like to make an expedition vehicle some day and they seem like a good starting point specially living in north America in Canada.

    I don't understand, if you have a heavy-duty fuel/water separator, why would you ever need this?

    • @rancher12121
      @rancher12121 5 лет назад +2

      I believe, the filter is before the pump, this goes after pump to protect injectors, in case of pump failure

      You are correct. The IFS filters post HEUI oil to protect the common oil rail and injectors. It does nothing for the HEUI pump. Your engine oil filter is responsible for HEUI filtration.

    What is the micron filtration of the filter? Did he say in the video? If so I missed it.

    • @zayin123

      From the website:
      The filter media is a super fine glass strands that filters to 5 micron.

    help my bus with 3126 engine wont start. i thought i ran out of diesel but it had 5plus gal, it had fuel in it when i put 5gal in anyway, on the way to fuel station it died out. it felt as i ran out of fuel added 10gal more and changed FF and removed air, had to use starter fluid to start, it ran for about 2mi and died again, the individual helping added oil stabilizer since he thought it was low on oil and traveling long distant, engine started again with starter fluid and ran for 45 to 50 mins smoothly, drove off and engine died again few yards down the road, a couple mechanics looked at it and had different diagnostic. theres no check engine light, added diesel 911 what do i do? i want to understand whats wrong b4 towing to a shop.

      Change the oil, cat engines run rough when oil is dirty,
      You added oil and it ran longer, which means it needs an oil change

      Our filter system is for HEUI oil systems that have one common high pressure tubing supplying the common oil rail in the head. This is not specific to only cat. It can be used for any HEUI type system with one common HP output.
