    Hi, Jeff! I'll be 68 yrs old in 2 months and am a survivor of 3 heart attacks. I've been doing cardio since Feb or March of this year at the hospital gym under supervision. A few weeks ago I started playing around with dumbbells and really love it!
    I'm starting out with light weights and lots of reps (3 sets of 20, decreasing the weight with each set) and doing just a few exercises. I've been viewing your videos for instructions for best results and, I gotta tell ya, Jeff, I'm seeing results after just 2 weeks of modest training! I will follow this program starting tomorrow (Tuesday, my scheduled time. And again on Thursday)!
    So much more rewarding than just cardio - though I warm up on the treadmill, first!
    Thanks again, Jeff!

    Jeff, I am 71 and have been working out for 25 years. You have really turned me on to almost all dumbbells. I have had two rotator cuff surgeries in my left shoulder and one in my right shoulder. My last surgery was from not being lined up correctly on my weight machine for bench presses. With dumbbell on my weight machine bench, my shoulders can easily move to line up correctly. Also staying away from anything behind my head. You have given me some great what not to does. I go to you for everything. Thanks for the great knowledge. Jack

    The variation of dumbbells is extremely useful for a small person like me ruclips.net/user/postUgkxP26Tir6n60vUkdtn4mbwhRO8cwuJQNy2 But the dumbbell size being large it's hard to do certain exercises like deadlift ( I have to have my hands and legs a bit wider to accommodate the size of the DB )Otherwise happy with the purchase. No excuse not to lift weight when it's snowing outside.

    The first thing I noticed is how much they tired me out, compared to working on machines. Also, they felt a lot more effective. And they were fun.
    Now, I'm feeling so much better than I usually do. Like I've worked out for the first time and it's exhilarating. Those squats turned my knees into rubber. It made me laugh.

      YES!!!
      I workout with my 25lb dumbbells every morning. 15 bicep curls, 20 lifts from waist to over the head, 20 situps with dumbbells curled to my chest, 20 pulls on each arm to workout my back (for archery), 20 chest presses from on my back.
      I'm seeing MUCH more definition, bulk and capability when out in the woods and on the archery range. I'm looking forward to greater gains once I get my food intake in order...I hate eating a lot.

      @KasaresStern 9 лет назад

      I personally prefer full cleans and full snatches (But they are not ok if you lack technique), plus pull-ups and Turkish Get-ups (Yes, with a barbell). But those exercises you say are a no-brainer for me.

    • @gabrielrangel956
      @gabrielrangel956 9 лет назад

      KasaresStern how do you train then? Snatches, Clean and Jerks are great but I have trouble incorporating them in any workout program while still including the above mentioned.
      There Pendlay's supertotal but I don't feel it's optimal for neither.

    • @KasaresStern
      @KasaresStern 9 лет назад

      Gabriel my program template is built around those two lifts (Power variations are accessory work): heavy squatting (Alternating between front and back squat) 3 days per week, deadlift (Alternating between snatch grip and regular grip) twice a week, Clean&jerk and snatch 5x week(Mon-Wed-Sat full lifts; Tue Power cleans and hang snatches; Thu Hang cleans and power snatches), OHP Tuesday and Thursday, Bench press Monday (I prefer OHP for my lifts), Weighted pull-ups Mon-Wed-Fri, and weighted dips on Sat. I usually go for 5 sets (Except squats, in which i go for 6 sets) and, unless deloading, always rotating in 80-95% of my RM (Always depending on the program).
      Though my goal is strength and power i can't say that i am not proud of the physique i've attained like this.

    • @primaltone
      @primaltone 6 лет назад +12

      @@achangedman2723 I do 3 times per week, once per day, and I split it into 3 "circuits". I repeat each circuit 3X before moving to the next, with about a 2 minute break b/w circuits. My routine looks like this:
      Circuit 1: Dumbbell Curl and Press, Crush Grip Goblet Squat, Dumbbell Pullover
      Circuit 2: Dumbbell Thruster, Farmers Carry, Arm Inclined Bench
      Circuit 3: Kettle bell Swing, Dumbell Tripod Row
      I have no idea if my routine is anywhere near optimal, but it does work. It's helped out my pushups immensely. I took a 1 month break on this routine and focused on pushups and planks, but I did 146 pushups today via 6 sets. Best I was doing this time last year was ~40 in a day. I took a break due to overextending and getting some elbow muscle fatigue. Jeff does a great video on how to prevent this, and I intend take greater care to prevent this when I start back, perhaps next week.
      Another key I've followed is to indeed exercise to fatigue. I shoot for ~10 reps per exercise, but if I can do 13, I increase the weight next time, shooting for 8-10 reps per set. Again, I am a complete noob, but it's worked for me.

    I have an athlean-x workout programme, but with the lockdown I need an alternative, and this seems good, but I do have two questions:
    1: Will I train all muscles in the body using these 8 excercises?
    2: Is there a recommended way to split these excercises over 2 days (4 excercises each day) instead of doing them all every day?

    • @Jbbbb-k1s
      @Jbbbb-k1s 3 года назад +2

      while they're all great compound exercises, most of them don't really fit into a classic training split like push/pull or push/pull/legs or chest/back, arms/shoulders, legs abs, etc - they all combine very different muscle groups together so it would be very difficult to avoid overtraining and muscle weakness and still get all of them in 2 days. However, if you're working on a weekly split I'd recommend farmer's carry only right before your rest day, and break the exercises up a bit - instead of the db thrusters a squat on leg day and overhead press for shoulders, just play around a bit and see what you like doing. But remember this video was made 6 years ago so steer clear of the tripod one arm rows and watch one of jeff's newer videos on one armed rows - he's said that doing them this way (or at least with a leg up) gives you hernias. Have fun!
