    The colour changing LED’s for the coil configurations are sick! As are the tones.
    I’ve got a bass with two Seymour musicman pick ups, and four fender mustang switches, setup to do:
    Seymour Duncan triple shot style switching for both pick ups with two of the switches
    One switch as a three way mid range frequency select for the pre amp
    And one to select bridge, both or neck (never liked blends)...
    The series is both switches in, and the parallel is both switches out, but I can never remember which setting is inner coils and which is outer, not that it matters, I just go on what sounds best in the context.

      If you hold something metal, something magnetically conductive, tapping it on the polepieces makes an audible pop which will tell you which coil is on

    • @Jonathan_Doe_
      @Jonathan_Doe_ 4 года назад

      @@martinheath5947 Yeah I know that, I just tend to go with whichever sounds best if I can’t remember tbf though.
      If you have the neck pickup solo’d with a single coil setting on the triple shot switching, the difference is slightly more obvious, there’s more depth on the coil closer to the neck.

    I tried one out in Bass Gallery in London, an Avenger with jaw-dropping paint job and LEDs on the fretboard. The build quality was stunning, a beautiful piece of work and a true professional's instrument but... it didn't inspire me. I can imagine playing one in any situation and it would do an outstanding job, day-in, day-out - those pickups can do ANYTHING - but the fact is I'm not a professional and I like my basses to have mojo. I'm glad I tried one and I'd love to play one but they are not my kind of instrument.

    What a great bass Mark! Thanks for the "little tour" you gave us! Super versatile, fine radius and lightweight, what more could you ask for? (a graphite neck perhaps if you ask me) I play a Status Kingbass Graphite, so I know and understand that you have to pay for quality. I think the price of the Enfield Lionheart is fair. I know which bass is on my christmas list :-)

    She's a beauty for sure, and from what I've seen in your other videos has an amazing tone as well. I took a peek at the Sims Guitars site and just about passed out looking at the price tag, although from the sound of it I bet it's worth every penny. The harmonics are mouth-watering.
    Do you name your instruments? If so, what's this one's name?

    Stunning instrument, incredible craftsmanship, and played beautifully as always. Hey really weird question - what is that strap you're using? I also have some back issues and I'm really keen to go for lighter instruments, and a big wide strap like this certainly helps with weight distribution. I've seen other wide straps made of ugly thick leather, but this one looks fine and soft, can you tell us about it please?

      My budget won't let me anywhere near an Enfield , and the hardware is sick but 1 pup cost more than what I paid for my LTD 5 string with active emg pups.

    • @andrewmccombs7347
      @andrewmccombs7347 4 года назад +1

      @@SilverBeardGuerilla No I feel you. I have a couple of basses, but I've never paid more than 700 for a bass. I used to have some expensive guitars, fell on hard times and made some stupid trades and purchases... lost all my good guitars. Tried not making the same mistake with my basses, and since I basically had to re-work my whole technique and become a better musician actually... I tried to control the impulse to go all out before I had the chops to justify it.
      The great thing about a budget bass is that it's not stopping us from being better bass players. Just our minds are doing that.
      I always think it's awesome when I'm at a show and some really good bassist is ripping it on a modded Squier. Happens rarely, but when it does, the bassist is usually so good that it puts 99 percent of bassists with high end basses to shame.

    • @SilverBeardGuerilla
      @SilverBeardGuerilla 4 года назад

      @@andrewmccombs7347 Ugh, I know that feeling , was unemployed for a few and had to dump most of my gear to pay the bills and settle up a bankruptcy , but I do dig where you're coming from on the talent side. I've spent the better part of 35 years learning by tab and ear and just started learning scales and theory the last couple , hell I probably still wouldn't have known shit about it if it weren't for YT and awesome guys like Mark here sharing their wisdom . It could be why I've never bothered to look at higher end gear myself , like I really didn't deserve it yet .

    • @andrewmccombs7347
      @andrewmccombs7347 4 года назад

      @@SilverBeardGuerilla I was fortunate enough to join Scott's Bass Lessons for a year, and before that I took lessons for almost a year (and before that I was just smashing my hands against the fretboard seeing if that would work for the better part of 15 years)... and honestly, I think Mark does a better job because he's straight to the point and presents info clearly and precisely. Scott has a lot of flash and high profile bassists (and a lot of sweet gear) on his site, and that takes away from some of the really good bits... but you can learn a lot from just the simplest things. I just had to be open to it and stop doubting myself and making excuses and looking for the next best thing. Oh just one more piece of GEAR!!! I can't afford it... but it's just so...tempting... No! Bad! Get back to scales and notes and chord tones! The gear comes later, God Willing!
      I honestly think God made me go back to the beginning and learn the basics OVER and OVER again, because I was so stubborn, only an All-Powerful Lord of Everything could have broken through and made me sit with a scale for hours at a time and weeks straight.
      "NO Andrew! Learn the dang notes on the fretboard FIRST!" Ooooh oooh but I've got this really cool idea. It goes a backachickadookadaka... "NO! Learn the NOTES!"
      Grrr... bah okay fine! Have it your way, God!
      Learnin' the notes... ya happy now?!
      Oh wait a second, I might actually be getting better.
      Thanks, God!
      Partial joking aside... yeah, that gear-hole is addictive... and when you lose it all, it's frustrating. I tried out for a couple of bands when I only had like a cheap Kustom bass amp, and they practically laughed me out of the room before I even set up. To be fair, I could barely play an arpeggio and didn't know how to play in key, but still...
      I'm sure the gear wouldn't have mattered as much if I was a virtuoso. That's the POINT! Get even close to the virtuosity, and everything else is gravy!

    Why am i hearing fret buzz?

    • @talkingbasslessons
      @talkingbasslessons  4 года назад

      As long as you're listening with decent speakers or headphones you shouldn't really be hearing any. But... if you're watching on a mobile or laptop with horrendous speakers, then all bets are off. You could be hearing anything! You'll only hear frequencies above the 300hz range at best and with terrible speakers you'll only get the upper mids and treble. Guess what's in that range....fret noise.

      @@GiggleBytes2011 The Pc is irrelevant. But the fact you’re listening on headphones means you shouldn’t be hearing much fret buzz. That grind you hear when I hit hard over the front pickup is a totally different thing. That’s the frets clanking from the position of my picking but that’s purposely done. It’s not fret buzz from bad frets or bad setup.

    It is ok but not wow to me...Only with a real P bass you can get a P bass tone

    • @talkingbasslessons
      @talkingbasslessons  4 года назад +3

      To be honest a lot of that comes from having a P bass in your hands. The sound isn’t the defining factor. I’ve got a few Precision’s as you’ve probably seen and use them when I want a Precision. But it’s not just a tone thing. As for being better, I don’t compare basses like that. A P bass is a P bass. A jazz is a jazz. A stingray is a stingray etc. There’s no better. Only what’s right for the job at hand.
