      I have a question for you!
      I just obtained ILR and I have Life in UK test done.
      Do I need the English Levels to be able to go to naturalise? I mention that I'm an EU citizen.
      Thank you

      @@nosycatUK Hi, you need to apply for settled status, wait a year and then get citizenship. This is assuming you have been living here since 2014.

    Hello Mr. Bradford,
    I hold the Settled status and German passport and have not applied for naturalisation. I got the Settled status on January 2020. Nevertheless I was absent from the U.K. on 2020 due to the Covid-19, I was 2 months in the U.K. on 2021 and 2 months in the U.K on 2022.
    My mother and grandmother were British. I have the Naturalisation Certificate number. Can I still get the U.K. citizenship by Naturalisation?

    • @TomBradford
      @TomBradford  Год назад

      Dear Avigail, This should be OK, depending on the precise number of days out of the UK over and above the 450 ‘maximum’. There is a discretion under the statutory rules. I have assisted with some naturalisation applications recently with COVID-related absences. You should have legal advice on your particular circumstances. Feel free to contact me using the details on tom-bradford.com/

    Hi Tom I'm French, I came to live in the UK since 1997 where I've worked went to uni including various training, apprenticeship and employment programmes. Though I never applied for the so called settled status, I have proof scattered all over records that I've been here since 1997. I will call you in due time to find out about the application process. Thank you.

    I have live in the UK for almost 11 years do I still qualify for passport application? Just a little confused, because I don't know if I can still get a British passport in 2022.
    At the moment I am studying for my life in the UK test to get my Naturalization certificate.
    Would then be able to apply for my passport?

    I have lived in the UK as a German national for at least 5 years, haven't I? EU nationals will face deportation from the UK if an application for settled or pre-settled status isn't made after 1 July 2021, won't they?

      @TomBradford  6 лет назад

      OK Jesse, that should be fine then. You should apply for settled status once the application route opens later this year. Be careful though regarding the German government's position on dual citizenship. Many Germans (clients and close friends included!) are applying to naturalise as British citizens now, pre-Brexit, because the German government may not recognise dual citizenship if you naturalise post-Brexit. This is because the UK will be a 'third country' in the eyes of Germany, after Brexit.

    I came to the UK from Germany with my brother in December 2004. Am I eligible for settled status?

    • @TomBradford
      @TomBradford  6 лет назад

      Hi Jesse. Yes, as long as you are a German citizen (is that the case?) and as long as you have not broken the continuity of your leave, through absences more than 6 months long, or more than 12 months (without good reason). Unlike with permanent residence, there is no requirement that you have been carrying out a 'qualifying activity'. This is subject to a conduct and other checks, but the key criterion is one of residence. Even if you do not qualify (in terms of length of leave) for settled status, the idea is that you will be granted 'pre-settled status'. I hope that helps - let me know if you have any further questions.

      @TomBradford  6 лет назад +2

      Hi, thanks for your comment. Yes, you still need settled status even if you already have permanent residence. BUT if you have a permanent residence card / certificate, then you will be able to simply 'swap' this for settled status, without going through a full application. I'm making a separate video guide about this shortly, so subscribe a click the notification bell to get the update when I release it. Thanks!

    Can I get settled status for free if I already hold an EEA Registration Certificate?

    • @TomBradford
      @TomBradford  6 лет назад

      Hi Jesse, its five years' residence you need for settled status. For anything less than that you get pre-settled status. An EEA Registration Certificate just confirms that you are a 'qualified person' in relation to your EU Treaty rights, so you still need to apply for settled status / pre-settled status. In relation to cost, this is still to be confirmed. Hope that helps!

      EU citizens who live in the UK will pay a one-off charge of £65, or £32.50 for children under 16, to apply for 'settled status'.

    So if I came in the UK in September 2014 I won't be able to become a British citizen?

    • @TomBradford
      @TomBradford  6 лет назад +2

      If you are an EU citizen, and you have arrived in 2014, then you will have 5 years under your belt at some stage in 2019. Therefore, when the 'settled status' route opens fully from March 2019, at some point in 2019 you will be able to apply for settled status. One year after that (subject to your circumstances) you will be able to apply to naturalise as a British citizen. Can't advise without knowing your individual circumstances but I hope that gives you a steer!

    • @decibalogh6061
      @decibalogh6061 6 лет назад

      Okay so I've basically been in the UK for most of my 4 years and I only been out this year to renew my Romanian id card because I turned 18. So what happens when UK leaves Europe? Will I still be able to live here?

    • @TomBradford
      @TomBradford  6 лет назад +1

      If you are a citizen of Romania (which is in the EU), then you will be able to remain in the UK after Brexit (on 29 March 2019). The deadlines you have to be aware of are (1) 31 December 2020 - you should make sure that you are resident in the UK then, when the transitional period ends and (2) 30 June 2021, which is the deadline for settled status - if you have not naturalised as a British citizen by then, then you must apply for settled status (in your case) by 30 June 2021. In your case, since, as I said in my last reply, it appears that you will be able to apply for settled status next year, that could be the best option for you. I hope that helps!

    • @decibalogh6061
      @decibalogh6061 6 лет назад

      Tom Bradford okay thank you for that. So I just need to pass the life in the UK test next year and do I need higher than a C in English in order to apply for British citizenship

    • @TomBradford
      @TomBradford  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks. You will not need to do this to get settled status - only when you apply to naturalise as a British citizen. I have a practice life in the UK test here if that helps: ruclips.net/video/2-fq2bpoUcU/видео.html
      In relation to the English language test for British citizenship, you can provide it by having either:
      1. an English qualification at B1, B2, C1 or C2 level
      2. a degree taught or researched in English
      I am going to be producing a video guide soon on the English language test, and more on this area generally, so feel free to subscribe and click the notification bell to get my updates when I release them. Thanks!
