Next to the office is where the bodies are been buried, those are the 19 who were trapped and every 9th of March we as student of Motufoua Secondary School celebrate the lost of the love ones. There were 18 students and a matron who was also trapped, these were students came from various islands of Tuvalu some were just in their 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year and last year. Last week Thursday was celebrated the 17th years and memorials towards the girls and pay respect to parents who lost their love ones and also those who escaped from this. Just lil sharing....
I was born and raised up on this island called Vaitupu where the school Motufoua located and I also stay within the school compound, at first I didn’t know that the place me and my friends used to played back then when we were little was the grave of 18 girls together with the matron as most of the girls called them their school mother❤️!! As I grew up i started to realize and understand about the whole story and also every year on the same date and month where these girls lost their lives, the school always held something to make memories of it. I started schooling in Motufoua since 2018-2020, it is a good and wonderful school but it is different from how the old days were!! But the most sadness part is that most of the girls died from that fire are my relatives and some of them are the oldest of their families 🥺🥺🥺!! But we all believe that they’re in the better place now❤️ RIP GIRLS
At the time I saw Moana, I thought that this song was so beautiful and totally matched the scenes in which Moana was a toddler and then when it was sung again when Moana returned the heart to Te Fiti. I didn't know that it was written for those 19 beautiful, young women who died during a fire in Tuvalu. Of course now every time I hear this song I will probably cry because I now know what it's meant for. 😢😭
Daisy Ramirez because they like seeing audience members cry their eyes out. If you're a whovian (Doctor Who fan) look at how many favorite characters got killed off during the shows in which Moffat was in charge.
What a very sad meaning behind this song. Let the souls of the girls that died rest in peace. It's interesting that Disney chose to use this song in the scene when Moana was just a baby. Perhaps they wanted to symbolize innocence and youth which also represents the young girls that died in the fire.
This song is a Tuvaluan song, sung by a group called TeVaka, a Tokelaun/NewZealand band, in honor of the 19 lives that were lost in a boarding school in Tuvalu. A young girl was studying at night. She fell asleep and left her candle still lit. Because there are so many mosquitoes, they slept in mosquito nets which then unfortunately got caught on fire from the candle. The school was locked up and boarded for protection and to separate the boys and girls, preventing the girls from escaping their dorms. 18 young girls and 1 teacher died. R.I.L💜❤🕊
I just want to say thank you for saying that.that really really means a lot to all of the TUVALU PEPOLE and there lost and me as well.So thankyou for the comments and lets celebrate the lost
already watch Moana, suddenly tears run down when i heard this song come out, i didnt know the story behind this song and im from indonesia so i didnt know tuvulu languange, but this song is so powerful, i believed for a long time that music is universal language but this song make me experienced it for the first time.
Randy Sombowadile BROWN COCONUT On the right side of this photo that's their grave for the 18 girls with our beloved mum as we called her matron lost her lives with her girls that night , so 18 + to their mum/matron = 19 of them died in that 🔥 i was at this school when this happens that was my first year to this school we only spent two months and happened very sad for us cos we can't really see which of them it's all burned and they all died in one spot where the door was they were crying there and we can here them calling out mummy/daddy im dying 😭

a girl was studying with a candle and above her was a net because there is a lot of mosquitos in Tuvalu. And she fell asleep and the candle fell and lit up.All the 19 girls were sleeping in their bunk beds (dorm)and their dorm was caught on fire and they woke up screaming and crying.they tried to escape from the windows but the windows were covered by bars. From now on and for safety reasons, we don't have bars on our windows.
Im crying for my Sister and brother from TUVALU island 😥😥🥺🥺🇹🇻🇹🇻❤❤🇹🇻🇹🇻❤❤💔🥺😥🥺😥🥺 big love People of TUVALU 😥🕊from kanaky new caledonia island 🇳🇨🇳🇨🏝🏝😪🥺😥🕊🕊❤❤🏝🏝🏝
This song reminds me a little bit to the Tokelaun song "Tagi Sina". Thanks to Te Vaka for this beautiful sad song in the film "Moana". The tragic schoolfire never reached Belgium. I feel madness about the newsgiving in Belgium. 19 girls died but they will live further on in my heart and the hearts of many other people all in the world. Alofa atu from Antwerpen - Belgium.
The first time I listened to the song I hadn't seen the translation yet. And I felt sad and like crying when listening. And when I read the translation I understood why. It's very sad; rest in peace :'(
This is so sad...I'm half Tokelaun and half Tuvaluan. This happened before I was born and knowing that I would've had blood relatives amongst those who passed, breaks my heart. I know this was a long time ago, but this will forever leave big holes in the family's hearts. Stay strong family and all those who knew them. You made it this far. They will live on in our hearts. R.I.L🙏🏽❤❤😔
In a dorm room a girl trying to study in the dark lit a candle and accidentally knocked it over. The dorm doors were locked, and the windows were meshed so they couldn't get out. 18 school girls died, and one Supervisor died as well.

Maria Fox this is the original....but on the movie Moana they changed the lyrics
Maria Fox Yes! When I realized that the song was talking about this tragedy, I couldn't refrain my tears... 😢😢😢
