I wish people who made videos would show you how they are working with the horse instead of forever talking about how spooky the horse is. Then she says "As I said" then she repeats it all over again. Ok finally we get a demonstration. I hope you give him treats for his work. I like how patient you are with him.
I've been using clicker methods for de-spooking. Best method, I think, for my horses. Good to see the relaxed training and enjoyed the video. Will watch rest over time.
Sorry I don't always have time to set up the camera to film and often work alone so don't have anyone to film for me. I do have footage of other horses I have worked with from start to finish which you may enjoy. Cheers.
Of course, of course. I tend to stick to the 'set up for success' idea. But I can see the benefit of having it as a tool for later in the desensitising process. :)
My horse will NOT let me have a plastic bag near her. she spooked at it before when I tried this and broke part of a fence. she’s very sensitive and crazy. I don’t know what to do. I need advice
Ill have to try that. She misbehaved so badly so I went back to a horsemanship class and learned it all came from her being disrespectful in my space due to lack of trust, and her fear from being off the track. She's much better now (: thanks for the reply!! ill try that too
Really nervous? I don't think so! If groundwork has been done for a week - then this horse is not nervous anymore obviously! Would have been nice to see the horse a week ago or perhaps put a different title on this video.. I have looked up several videos that are titled "Nervous Horse" but the horse is far from nervous
+Minxie Moo When you are a professional trainer working on your own its a bit difficult to have time to film every session with a horse... If you saw this horse in person then you would realise how nervous he was about life...
Hi Georgia! I understand I train horses professionally also but I am not big on video tapping myself so don't worry about it. I would love to have someone else that could do it though as you often forget sometimes how nervous some horses are when you first get them. I wasn't having a dig at you, I actually love your videos and woud love to see you work with a fresh unhandled horse.
Minxie Moo Have you watched my videos working with Mira the Brumby I trained for the Australian Brumby Challenge? They show me working with a completely untouched 5 year old Brumby mare, from day one through to day 100 at the final competition. You might enjoy those.
It can be a good tool but you do have to do the preparation first with the rope and stick and string, can't just go straight to the bag as the horse might not yet understand the process of the pressure and release for standing still relaxed so the bag can be too much too soon and you just end up scaring it. Good luck.
As stated in the video he has had a week or so of groundwork with me before this video, and then the video series is showing the process of desensitsing to help the nervous horse (or any horse really) to learn to think and relax. If your comment is based on the lack of explosive reactions well that is because the process of desensitising has been successful in helping to reduce and prevent such reactions. Just because a horse is standing still doesn't mean it is accepting something, you might be interested to read up on learned helplessness and horses shutting down. I have a video on this also called acceptance or shut down. Cheers

I wish people would film this stuff BEFORE they spend a week with the horse!

I see you now giving him treats. Very nice.
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed it and great to hear you are finding clicker training so useful for your horses :) It really is a great tool.

Hi, in the intro in the first minute I state I have been working with him for just 1 and a half weeks. Cheers.
very nice where is part 2 :)
I'm going to need a bag on a stick, I think! Lovely horse, too. :) Very handsome.
How long had you been working with him for, before he got to this stage?
