Well, guaranteed that salesman is no longer employed there, along with all those who also assisted in the assault, all of who are guilty of assault as well. Then destruction of the paperwork in an attempt to defraud is another thing, along with grand theft auto of both the trade in, and holding the vehicle OP had bought. Corporate will hang the entire dealership management out to dry for all the costs as well.

A dealership that tries to extort money from a customer?
That $500 would have gone straight into the pocket of the salesperson. Probably because they're commission was less due to the deal that was struck and they weren't having it.
It would seem that the other staff had successfully ripped others off not just for the $500. They probably had taken back the new car because without proper documentation it was still the dealerships.

Story 1 - I have mobility issues, so I use the electric cart all the time. I make a point of taking my groceries to my car then driving the cart back inside & plugging it in, unless one of the cart catchers follows me out & says they'll bring it back in. The other day, I was unloading my cart into my car and a lady in the space behind mine saw me getting ready to take the cart back in and she said "You know, if you just leave that there, one of the cart kids will get it and take it back inside later". I looked her dead in the eyes and said "I'm not some lazy asshole that just makes their job harder. I take it back inside and make sure it's plugged in so it's ready for the next person that needs it." And then proceeded to take the cart back into the store. As I was coming out, I noticed her getting the cart that she had parked in front of her car and take it back into the store. She didn't look my way, but her face was really red.
I feel that if you can walk into the store to get the cart, you can plug it in and walk out when you're done with it! Don't leave it in the parking lot in the weather because then, maybe the net time YOU need it, it will be sitting in the lot, in the weather, with a dead battery.

1st story, Handicap Scooter. In 2000 my Dad was getting old, he was 83 at this time & I was 57 He wanted to visit the coastal town in the UK where he grew up. So my Sis + I went with them as Carers. One day we hired Dad a Handicap Scooter 'cos he couldn't walk very far. Mid afternoon, Dad said he was tired & could he go back to the Hotel. I left Mom & Sis arranging to meet them later. OK, I take Dad back, get Dad sorted and have to return the Hire.. It's not easy to DRIVE a Handicap Scooter while walking. SO, I climbed on & drove it. Much easier.. It was GREAT!!. Sit on the side of the road, all the traffic stops to let you cross. I was LOVING IT. So I go down a walkway, where a young Mom, 20's, with 2 little kids feeding the Ducks on the river. She, kindly got her kids together to allow me to pass. I returned the Scooter to the hire shop, all OK. Came out. Who was the first person I see? Yeah, young Mom & Kids with her mouth hitting the floor. My response? "Hey, I'm just the Delivery Driver". She laughed. I think it gave her months of laughs with her friends. Good for you Lady, I'm glad I gave you a laugh.

(possibly encounter a customer who might ohysically attack them) was OP supposed to write a check? As he was doing his job, it'd fall under the store's liability. The best course of action would be to secure all carts, notify the manager, and the manager deals with the customer.

Deaf story: I've never heard of anyone who WANTED to be deaf (other than someone working customer service, LOL). Sometimes it's a birth defect, sometimes it happens because of disease, sometimes because of an accident and often because of constant exposure to loud noises over time. Regardless of the cause it doesn't affect a person's ability to think or cope. Deaf people often have a speech impediment literally because they can't hear themselves when they speak which can cause poor pronunciation of words. It does not mean they are mentally disabled. Grow up people!
Cart story: AM wouldn't have looked like such a jerk if he'd have let OP explain. He tried but AM kept cutting him off.
