      @salomahoney2675 3 года назад +707

      @@kentuckybruce6816 if I recall correctly, he goes to the house because he is worried for Jesse. He speaks to Jane's father at the bar and they talk about his daughter, and Walt calls Jesse his nephew. They talk about how you can never give up on them. He knows Jesse has gone down a dark path with drugs lately and so he goes to make sure he's okay.
      I could be remembering it wrong or missing some details, but I'm pretty sure that was the reason
      Edit to add:
      I don't think he intended on killing Jane. He didn't want her in Jesse's life or for her to interfere with their meth business. But at the end of the scene, we see that he is okay with her death in the moment.
      Jane starts to cough and choke, and Walt goes over because he's worried. He feels like a dad. But then he thinks of how she got Jesse using heroin. How she blackmailed him. So he decides to do nothing. However, he does cry. Brian Cranston actually said that when he cried during that scene, he saw his own daughter lying there. But, then Walt decides he needs to put it behind him. In my opinion, this is when Heisenberg stops becoming a business thing for Walt, and actually starts to BE Walt.

    These 3 characters faced the same circumstances - The bad guys killed someone they love so they were on their quest for revenge. Now look at how they handled the situation.
    Walt and Gus - After a loved one (Hank, Gus’ bf) was killed mid-sentence, They were so committed to revenge that they were willing to wipe out the entire organization of those bad guys but since they took it so personal, they went too far by pursuing their enemies themselves causing them to get killed in the process.
    Jesse - Todd killed Andrea while Walt killed Jane. Even though, he killed Todd as a revenge for Andrea, he decided not to give in to vengeance in the last moment and let Walt died in his own term. Oh, and favorite episode still & always will be the one with the fly. I don't care if anyone bitches about how "slow" it was. This episode finally worked on building the relationship between Walt & Jesse. I know the almost confession of killing Jane was big, but both opening up about their families & the "woulda, coulda, shoulda" meant a lot to me. I mean, yeah, it was pretty hilarious to see Walt go crazy & exude his controlling nature w/getting the fly. But to see them finally start relating, and more or less start looking out for each other (Walt warning Jesse about skimming, Jesse killing the fly & helping Walt sleep by dosing him.....what a nice guy!!), it gave me closure that both were going to be around & working together for a while. Plus, the new fly at the end, you knew Walt was going to lose it. It felt like a complete episode, no huge cliff hangers, but a start & finish, I was fulfilled.

  • @chrisrosenkreuz23
    @chrisrosenkreuz23 4 года назад +44

    Very good breakdown. I would like to add that since Gilligan made the connection to the eye of God, it's an easy jump to mythology and the nearest equivalent are The Eye of Horus (the left eye) and The Eye of Ra (the right eye), respectively. Considering the fact that the bear is shown with its left eye missing, when the bear s shown it symbolizez The Eye of Ra (the right eye) and when just the bear's eye is shown, The Eye of Horus is symbolized.
    According to Egyptian myth, Horus lost his left eye in a struggle with Seth. The eye was magically restored by Hathor or Tehuti. When Horus's eye was recovered, he offered it to his father, Osiris, in hopes of restoring his life. Hence, the eye of Horus was often used to symbolise sacrifice, healing, restoration, and protection.
    In the myth called the Destruction of Mankind, related in the Book of the Heavenly Cow from the New Kingdom (c. 1550-1070 BC), Ra uses the Eye as a weapon against humans who have rebelled against his authority. He sends the Eye-Hathor, in her aggressive manifestation as the lioness goddess Sekhmet-to massacre them. She does so, but after the first day of her rampage, Ra decides to prevent her from killing all humanity. He orders that beer be dyed red and poured out over the land. The Eye goddess drinks the beer, mistaking it for blood, and in her inebriated state returns to Ra without noticing her intended victims. Through her drunkenness she has been returned to a harmless form.
    It then naturally follows: plane explodes in the sky, the symbol of Walt's destructive nature is shown (the bear with the right eye( etc etc

    I like to see the bears resemblance to be related to Walter. As pink means innocence and also tragedy, I like to look at it like this, the pink side of the bear resembles Walt, an innocent man who was struck with the tragedy to learning that he has lung cancer, that’s doomed to kill him. On the other half of the bear is the black side, resembling death, darkness and evil. Resembling Heisenberg, and how he doesn’t care who he hurts as long as he gets what he wants. I feel like this is the reason Walter was fascinated by it, because it resembles him. Also note that the black side is missing an eye, and Walter keeps the eye, I like to see this as a symbolism that the darkness in Walter is watching him as he grows into becoming more like Heisenberg and less like Walt.
    Idk that’s just my 2 cents.

    It's funny that you mentionned that Walter is seeing his own daughter while watching Jane dies cuz in a very meta moment Bryan Cranston actually said that during the filming of the scene, from a moment he actually saw his real life daughter instead of Kristen Ritter so technically the bear is everyone child and/or childhood at this point.

    • @johnp.smithasimpleman7281
      @johnp.smithasimpleman7281 4 года назад +2

      The Fly episode was a metaphorical episode. The fly basically represented everything that went wrong in Walt’s story up to this point. Like the guilt he feels for letting Jane die, the guilt he feels for causing the plane crash, and how frustrated he is because his wife found out about everything. Do you know how it is when you feel something just went wrong in your life and you can’t change it no matter what you do? Whether it’s a mistake you made or something went the complete opposite of how you expected it. It’s like your life has been contaminated, you just wish you could change it, you feel it wasn’t supposed to be like that. You live with constant mental torture and regret. You can’t get it out of your mind. Maybe you don’t know, maybe you haven’t made a life altering mistake.
      In the episode Walt talks about what he thought was the perfect moment for him to die. It was when his daughter had just been born and it was before everything bad happened. But the fact that he kept living just to see everything fall apart keeps bothering him. He never planned to let an innocent girl choke in front of him, he never planned to be the main cause why two planes crashed, he never planned for Skyler to find out about his illegal activities, and he also never planned to technically be a slave for a drug kingpin. In his perfect plan, he was going to make a lot of money for his family and nothing bad would happen, he would have all the control he wanted, no one would ever find out and he would still be the innocent GOOD man he thought himself to be, and he would live happy until his death. All that talk about contamination is actually about Walt’s life, which has been contaminated to the point of no return. It was him seeing the reality of what his life turned out to be. At the end he has to learn to live with it and accept that the fly will always be there, that constant buzzing in his ear, the buzzing that never goes away, constantly reminding him that things didn’t go the way he wanted to. His life is a lost cause, just like a contaminated batch.

  • @21Shells
    @21Shells 2 года назад +4

    Before watching the video, im going to say its symbolic of Walts guilt. He holds onto one of the bears eyes, which is often made to look as if its staring at him.
    I also felt that when Walt tries to comfort Jesse on how he couldnt predict how Janes accidental death could lead to a plane full of people being destroyed, he is really trying to comfort himself as he knows that he is also accidentally responsible for her death in numerous ways, notably he accidentally rolls her over when she is about to vomit when he is trying to wake Jesse up. I also took Walt watching her choke on her own vomit as a moment of shock and not really knowing what to do on his part, rather than him wanting to kill her. Walt also gets to know her father before the accident, and I think this is the moment that he realises what he does doesnt just ruin the lives of drugees and awful people, but also people not directly connected to those sorts of things as Jane and her father were both innocent people.
    I think youve also heard of this before but Walt also takes on characteristics of the people he kills, again i think this shows that he never makes peace with killing people but rather tries to keep it bottled up.
    Edit: similarly i also think Jesse picks up some of walts characteristics throughout the show, such as his refusal to involve children, although i think this was already a part of Jesses character. Walt eventually becomes able to stand it after Todd kills the kid, Walts reaction is relatively calm even if he is unhappy, whereas Jesse is absolutely furious.

    When i saw the first episode from the season i just knew this will be symbolic, and then when i saw that Walt has a pink sweather i started to put things together. It was about the descent of Walt into madness and beginning of chaos. By killing Jane he lost part of his innocence, which is why the plushie had it's other part burned and why at the end you see two body bags. He didn't only kill Jane but also his good side.
    Edit: Jane pretty much was the cause of her own death, you say she represents innocence, but didn't you forget she's the one who got Jesse into stronger drugs, and she didn't kept her word either, also blackmailed Walt. Walt pretty much did it to protect both, now i'm not saying Walt is innocent, but i like how the show gives two perspectives and lets you decide which one is bad and good, but in this none weren't.

    The scene of Walt and Jane’s dad talking is Breaking Bad’s glint of sci-fi, since ‘turning Mars to a gas station’ exceeds the tech of our time.
    Does this glint of sci-fi relate to Jane’s bedroom painting, where she’s floating through space?
