Staggering launch of Elite's most anticipated content update will only lead to split and fractured communities. Community is the very thing that makes Elite more than "just a game", and so is the one thing that Frontier should be trying to protect and foster above all else, in times such as these. Releasing a beta period on PC in-line with the currently communicated release date, and not switching on live service until all platforms are onboard for the update, is absolutely the best way forward. I hope this idea gains traction.
To keep things fair, I think First Footfall credit should be reserved for when all platforms have access to Odyssey. They can explain it in Galnet by saying "Universal Cartographics doesn't have the tech to validate these discoveries yet and will be able to in late 3307"
"Frontier has offered us a very genuine apology for us" - hahahaha! xDDD Dude, it's obvious they DID know about the delay when they launched pre-order. Their marketing department clearly waited for the last possible moment to announce the delay (when it was impossible to hide it anymore due to information for shareholders), so they could maximise their income from pre-orders. It was a dick move and I hope people will cancel their pre-orders.

With the game in the current state it is not releasing until Autumn for console.. They will lose a lot of players on the consoles and in the long term I think this will hurt more rather than releasing a staggered release on console too. I'm happy to wait but a 6-9 month delay is ridiculous this isn't something they would have decided over the past few weeks and they would have known a while ago. All my opinion of course.
I never expected it to be out in Q1 2021 tbf but I don't mind waiting so long as it's playable when it's released. Hopefully thrashing it out in beta mode on PC will give FDev enough hardcore hamsters to make it run properly when it's fully released.
First, I think you video is spot on! Watching it makes me wonder how much time, manpower and money FDev has spent on playing with real guns to record those unique gun sounds (I'm sure those sounds have never been recorded before and can not just be bought/licensed. But I forget, real man like to play with real war material, designed to kill real people.), to make fighting in space sound like you are on earth. I wished the devs would have played Dead Space. Frontier shows console players are not worthy of their time and effort. After all console is an order of magnitude smaller player base. Clearly they don't give a sh*t about us on console.
Was it even delayed? we were told "early 2021" which would include spring. That was atleast what I was expecting, "early" being some time before mid year, and we're still on track for that.
@@Marstruth No, I didn't forget. What relevance does it have to this specific announcement? Or are you just throwing in irrelevance pedantry to be a smart arse?
This is one way to lose console players. It’s a huge mistake to release PC before Consoles. They should come out simultaneously even if it means a PC players need to wait a little bit longer. Either that or simply abandon consoles altogether and allow people to transfer their accounts to PC. The fact is this game is definitely PC Centric. When you look at everything that’s available for players on the PC you quickly realize that console players are only really getting a fraction of the game.
I for one dont mind, I play on console and if they need more time then so be it, it looks great from what i see so i can wait after all they most likely saw what happened with project red and want to avoid that scenario not I think that would happen as the devs actually care about this title which is why I will always come back to elite and trust them to get it right or as close as they can.
You're talking about the definition of 'spring' and 'autumn' - **completely** forgetting that these things happen in the southern hemisphere as well. At completely opposite times of the year - this is not a mere 20 days or so difference....
@@CMDRPLATER I must have missed that bit. But my point was more about their schedule being a LOT more 'flexible' than you described; I doubt THEY specified 'UK' when they mentioned 'in the spring'. :)
The delay is annoying, but the worst possible thing Frontier could do is keep the original schedule and release another "September update" followed by a month of critical patches. Elite does not need to outdo Cyberpunk 2077 for bad launches. I agree with Cmdr Plater's suggestions.
NO! FDev should keep their mouths shut the fuck up till they had a genuine product, not start the hype, earn from pre-orders and then, when they couldn't hide the delay anymore, say: oh, you know, covid and stuff, sorry, bye!
You didn't really make your point clear in the first comment. They did give a time period which was actually meant to Q1 now its changed to late spring which is Q2.
Realy balanced vid . I think Fdev are terrified about a CyberPunk disaster . My main complaint is that they must have known this a long time ago .
