The link for the contest doesn't work. I have been trying for 2 days. Great video.
I have been growing them for over 29 years- I had 165 different ones at one time in my 2 acre garden while my garden is no longer that size due to a divorce remarriage and move I still have what I need and prepare items
Tough challenges!
Good work Kylene. Growing your own medicine is really empowering and the best way in the world to really learn the plants. :0)
Doc Jones
Homegrown Herbalist School of Botanical Medicine.
Thanks so much for blessing our lives Doc Jones! You are making a difference in so many lives!
Mint. Great for tea. Opening up air way’s. Help deter bugs
Cloves are good to
Free is definitely good. You are blessed to have the land to grow things on.
its so fun to see you talk so excitedly about this! i wish i had friends like you! nobody by me is interested at all about this besides me!
We could have soooo much fun! This is definitely my happy place.
Favorite medicinal is probably lemon balm! Easy to grow, tastes great and uses for so so many things! Love it for calming cranky kids or babies, upset tummies or just for Mama's happy tea 😁 winning herbs would be amazing!
I had read, two years ago about wild lettuce for non addictive pain control. That summer coming up in my back yard was wild lettuce. Gift from God, by way of some birds. It returned the following year.
Comfrey is very versatile. The rabbits and chickens love it too!
The 1 medicinal herb I do use the most out of my garden has been Sage - excellent for stage of life changes and female issues! Thank you for sharing the information about Survival Seeds, even though I'm too late to enter the contest - the offers they have on the website are amazing! Another great perennial for people to have is walking Egyptian onions (I got my starter bulbs from a friend) but they continuously sprout more green onions even in the cold climates (I live in zone 4-5, and I have green onions 9 months out of the year and they come back when the Crocus do.).
My favorite herb would have to be lemon balm. Easy to grow and useful in so many ways!
If I had one to plant it would be Lemon Balm. I raise bees and they seem to love them. So do the butterflys.
My sister and my daughter are taking that same course. There’s so many herbs that we could have to help ourselves rather than taking prescription drugs. Blessings.
just one - really!!!! OK I will go with the mint family - really easy to grow and great in teas....
Thank you this is my second year growing medicinal herbs in my garden, thank you for this video 😇🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻♥️♥️♥️
Thanks for the opportunity. I have been reading about holy basil and would love to try to grow some this year it's not one I have ever had.
ILOVE dr. Jones
Thanks Kylene, I have been subscribed to your blog... All your videos are fantastic.... In my hermitage I need all these skills and new learning.
Wow, i bet those onions smell Amazing! Love fresh herbs. My one herb i can't think of the name, but Stacy with Doug and Stacy mentions it alot. Now I have to go look it up.... This medicinal garden would be perfect to grow on my balcony, one br apt. No wooded or forrest areas near me to go foraging. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! 😊
I wasn't able to find a list of seeds to choose from on my device, so I had to just pick some of my favorite ones. I hope that's okay? Thank you So Much for this giveaway and helping us with all that you do for humanity. 🙏💚
St John's Wort!
I've recently weaned myself off my prescription SSRIs (after 4 years on them)...
It has NOT been easy. The process took me 6 months and it's been 3 months since the last dose... and I still have VERY BAD days... but it's slowly getting easier as my body adapts.
Not only did I not like the side effects, but there's a mounting body of evidence from those who have suffered for years after weaning themselves off.
If a certain country were to become belligerent and close the door on pharmaceutical exports, I could not imagine having to "go cold turkey" - so I took the initiative without medical support or counselling.
Hypericum Perforatum tincture has been a lifesaver. 2.5ml/day.
Had to buy it off the self, but I have some tiny seedlings which I am nurturing like babies I was breast-feeding ;-)
Looking forward to harvesting my own, processing and having the supply on site.
I'm growing perhaps 20 different herbs and at this time, looking to increase as opportunity permits.... but if I had to chose ONLY one... Hypericum would be it.
I currently grow comfrey, calendula, lemon balm, holy basil, borage, marigold, oregano, yarrow,Mullen, anc camomile. If I had to pick one holy basil
Comfrey. Then plantain. My best friends.
My one medicinal plant would be calendula and yarrow behind it. I am also enjoying being a student of Dr. Jones course😊
He's awesome!
Mam actually you are amazing im blessed that ive found this chanel i will learn everything just here from u everyday lets go🎉❤
Hoo boy, we can only pick one herb? That’s a tough one! I grow lemon balm, chives, bergamot, echinacea, mint, horseradish, toothache plant, lots of dandelions, onions, garlic, thyme, sage and calendula tucked around in my yard in town (ie - small!). I might have to say that if I could grow only one, it would probably be goldenseal. Which I can’t grow in my little yard. Or ginger. Or turmeric. I do need to learn more about how to use what I do have growing.
Do you think you're not able to go to work or ginger because of your soil or weather? I grow them both in a raised bed and it is great. I leave the bulbs in the soil until I need them
What growing zone are you in @MySuewho
There was a seed company a few years ago that gave away free seed packages with a purchase. It turned out that some of the seeds were for prohibited, invasive plants and they had to all be recalled. A plant that is native to one area may be an invasive pest in another. You have to check through seed packs very carefully to make sure what you're getting is allowed and safe in your area.
Lavender is the one medicinal herb I need.
Good God's glorious evening Kyleen! 🙋🏽♀️ This video is right on time!! A large group of us gardeners here on RUclips are actually doing an herb challenge right now. 😊 It would be a HUGE blessing to be able to win some seeds! 🤩 Thank you soooo much for sharing this opportunity with us, and for this awesome video that encourages others to grow their own in these uncertain times. I can totally envision how your chamomile patch is gonna look and smell! 😍 🌼 🍵 If I had to choose one herb, I think Licorice Root would be my choice for flavor...but Chamomile is a gorgeous sight to see, that happens to be perennial in my area, attracts pollinators, and smells fantastic in the breeze! Can I choose them both? 😁
YES!
I am very interested in learning more about herbal medicine and growing my own plants. Thank you for the opportunity to perhaps win some seeds.
I’ve been working with Lambert Nursery in West Valley to sell medicinal herb starts. They are expanding their selection this year. So if you don’t want to start seeds or can’t they are a great option. I would also recommend if you are very serious about herbal medicine then check into classes taught by Sam Coffman through The Human Path. I’ve been an herbalist for 20 years and have gone through a lot of herbal programs including Dr. Jones but I feel you get the most for your money from Sam.
thank you for all your info .
Great video! Very informative! Thanks for posting!
Great video Kylene, thank you. Love learning about your survival garden so I can do it as well. My favorite medicinal plant is curly parsley. Happy trails!
💙 Good thinking. I need to do this.
Thank you Kylene. It was a great video. I see that your lemon balm seeds are slow to sprout too. Mine are just now starting to peek through. I love Dr. Patrick Jones. I am taking his herbalist course too. If I could only grow one healing herb, it would be Comfrey. I use it all the time. I make salve and tincture with it. Have an awesome week.
Hey! I actually just commented asking if anyone knew where I could find good heirloom Comfrey plants or seeds. I cannot find them at our local farm centers or garden centers. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!🪻
Get Bocking 14 or Russian Comfrey (sterile variety so that the seeds don't make your yard into one giant comfrey patch), I recommend getting it from Seeds for Generations bit.ly/3lQXXlG
@@evolvingartist7I love to grow Comfrey. I buy the root, all ready to plant, from Strictly Medicinal Seeds. Growing Comfrey from seed takes a while. But once it gets established there is no getting rid of it. Kylene is right, the Bocking 14 spreads by the roots extending out, while the true Comfrey produces fertile seeds and spreads like crazy. But I like it that way. BTW I like your VW bus. I have a 1969 T-2 VW bus. I love it.
@@lowmanite Thank you so much for the info! I agree that I am looking for Comfrey in abundance for our organic gardens and orchard. I will plan on ordering some and hope it takes off so I can spread it around my trees and chop some for fertilizer. I have to confess....the bus is not ours.😔 The owners live not far from us in a charming little town I visit often....of course, I admire it every time I visit! Maybe some day they'll sell...I'd love to add a couple of vintage surfboards on top...so cool! My husband does drive an aqua 1973 VW Beetle though and gets stopped often for people to ask him about it....and if he'd sell it. The answer is always no!🤣
@@TheProvidentPrepper Thank you!! Got several pots of herbs I started in the greenhouse now. Yeah!!
I was o my thinking today about doing this so a very timely video for me! Thank you.
Im in Canada zone 5b and i winter sow all the time
Awesome info. Thanks!
Great information. I am a rookie in herbs but taking a class and want to start grown on my own. Thanks!!
Your videos and family really are a god send
Wow, thank you! May God bless you and yours!
Bergamot.
It would have to be stinging nettle to help with my chronic pain.
Great information!
Awesome!
We use Lavender oil alot, so it would be great to have that in our garden as well. I hear it is also a good, natural bug repellent. Yarrow is another one that would be interesting to have in our garden
i would pick basil or plantain!
Mine is parsley grow it all year round
I have plans on growing and dehydrating herbs this year. I think I need a couple more seed packets.
Comfrey!! I make salve. Best stuff and so much better than over the counter salves. Knowing exactly what’s in it is important to me.
My favorite video this month. Medicinal herbs are my preparedness passion. Im saving up for Doc Browns class. -Natalie
I have been wanting to start but have been weary. I don’t know how to start them. Your information is helpful especially with the cold stratification. 😊
This is off subject but can you do a video on satellite phones. Different affordable types and subscriptions. I am looking at the Garmin messenger
Favorite medicinal plant - probably garlic. Second choice would be calendula or chamomile.
Only one herb? UGH that is a tough question. I would say Garlic... cause the cheat would be, dandelions can't get get rid of 'em, same same goes or Yarrow, Mullein, and Plantian, Purslane, too. Which is not a bad thing at all, to me. Course, I would make sure the Yarrow is Yarrow... still need to talk to our local AG Extension. (Weeds are just a plants, I didn't plan where they grow.) But, if I win the packets, I would know they are the right plants! :) Thanks for sharing Kylene!
I don't know where you live but I have joined a facebook group called Utah Plant Identification which is amazing because I can take pictures of plants that I'm not sure of and get a pretty accurate identification. Just a thought!
I’m putting together a seed library for my community. I need this seed packet!
Wonderful! We both entered! Loved this video. (Also love your hickory cabinets! We or those in two of our homes in Colorado before we moved to AZ.) How do the herbs grow in AZ? Do you think we will have to grow them indoors only?
Some of my kids live in Arizona. You can totally grow them but you'll have to do a bit of research. I can't grow in the winter ... you can't grow in the summer :)
Feverfew is one of my favorites (for migraines). But my top is not so much an herb but a wild edible, Chaga and cattails… I know I know! That’s two 😊 I can’t help it. Probably cattails win because they are soooooooo versatile in their plethora of uses.
I’d like to know how to use them as well!
Only one medicinal herb? I would choose Echinacea. Followed by another 2 dozen top 10, lol! 😄
Great advice and video. Really Kylene only one favorite😂, how do you choose....I am going to go with elecampane because it's one I don't have and have wanted. Favorite that I do have would be echinacea for medicinal and lavender because love the smell.
I definitely can't pick only one!
Purple Coneflower " Echinacea. Great for the immune system and anti-inflammatory.
Kylene, thank you so much for this video. I never heard of Dr Jones before. I am big into homeopathy and I have been wanting to explore herbs more. I have a few to plant now, however there is so much more I want to learn. I'm checking out Dr. Jones school. Thank you, Thank you, for sharing this information with us.
You will love him! He is a veterinarian and an herbalist so he has a unique set of experience and skills.
#1 Garlic would top my list but #2 would be Thyme or Lavender. 😂😂 sorry can't ever do the "Just pick one" thing no matter how hard I try. Really amping up my garden the last few years collecting and growing all things Heirloom or Medicinal, preserving every way I can to keep the bureaucracy away. Thanks everyone for all the input it All helps.
I can't pick just one either. Maybe just 25 ... maybe not :)
My favorite is catnip!
I made it !
Of the 36 seeds in this medical herb kit, I only have 6 of them. Guess I need to step up my game.
It would be hard to select just one herb!
I unfortunately have very little sun on my property. I grow what I can on deck, but that is limited. I have shade by 11:00 am from my neighbors yard.
There are still plants you can grow! Some herbs grow amazingly well in pots. Google medicinal herbs that grow well in shade. Mint is one of them!
I love calendula
pick ONE? oh man... tough. i would have to say thyme, because it s an antiseptic (thymol) as well as many other things, but if not that? mint or lemon balm- you can do almost anything with mint or lemon balm
i grow french sorrel, thyme, sage, lavender, oregano, mint, rosemary (hardy rosemary finally grows in my zone!) lemon balm, feverfew, woodruff, pennyroyal (CAUTION), lovage (waiting to see if it survives), borage when i can, st johns wort, echinacea, yarrow, comfrey (again caution) perennial fennel, good king henry, bloody dock, chamomile, bee balm- i think i may have forgotten some...
one advantage is that an awful lot of these are decorative as well as "useful"
i also have strawberry (leaves are medicinal) raspberry and blackberry, currants, gooseberry, blueberry, honeyberry, rose (for multiple reasons) elderberry (flowers and berries are medicinal) apple, juneberry, aronia, and of course dandelion.
Hey! You seem quite knowledgeable in the herb department yourself! I am going to look up several from your list because I haven't heard of some. I would love to know if you know if lilac blossoms and forsynthia (yellow bell) blooms are edible or usable for teas, jelly, etc. The internet says they are, but I haven't spoken with another person who knows for sure. I have both and would love to try making jelly and tea out of them. Thank you for any help you can give!🪻
That's AWESOME!!
IMPRESSIVE!
@evolvingartist7 lilacs are edible! I have had them as sugared flowers. They are well known edible plants.
I don't know forsythia personally, but I have heard they are edible, but not that tasty
@@fabricdragon Thank you!!
Marshmallow ♥️
Comfrey
With what happened with baker creek selling a gmo tomato when these seeds are suppose to be free of gmos. I now question what seed companies are safe..
Our seeds are heirloom, non-GMO, open pollinated, and safe for your family! We grow them for our own families as well. Happy planting!
I love Survival Garden Seeds for just that reason!
@@BrandAmbassadorSGS so theyre organic?
@@victoriaschell2225 We do not pay for certified organic seed. How YOU grow your garden will determine if your produce is grown with organic practices or not. Both heirloom AND hybrid seeds can be certified organic. However, only heirloom/open-pollinated seeds can be saved to give you the same produce again next year. Either way, organic seed won't give you organic produce unless you use organic gardening practices when you grow it. It's an expensive label that ultimately gives you no advantage over heirloom and non-GMO.
One herb? Gotta keep the troops happy, don'tcha know, so....catnip!
Probably would pick onion, garlic, or thyme. Not too adventurous about medicinal herbs yet.
comfrey
Oh pooh.... looks like I missed this video giveaway.

Hey! I was curious if anyone can tell me who might carry heirloom Comfrey plants or seeds? I would love to grow some. Thanks!
Don't purchase seeds! You will regret it. Comfrey is super hard to get rid of and it will readily reseed. Get Bocking 14 or Russian Comfrey (sterile variety so that the seeds don't make your yard into one giant comfrey patch), I recommend getting it from Seeds for Generations bit.ly/3lQXXlG
Strictly Medicinal is where I got my comfrey starts. All of them took 2 yrs ago and doing great.
@@RJ-mh1bu Thank you!!
garlic. The entry form at the seed site does not work.
Perhaps try a different browser?
I would probably stick with the first one Father God showed me that was already growing in my yard: Self-Heal! It has helped me so much!
And what is that?
@@TheProvidentPrepper Latin name: prunella vulgaris. It's from the mint family. It can be eaten cooked or fresh. It can be made into a tea, tincture, or infused oil. It contains vitamins, minerals, anti-inflammatories and antioxidants. It can treat internal and external issues. It's anti-viral, astringent, demulcent, hypotensive, immunomodulating, and vulnerary. I use it as a tincture for sinus and allergy issues. I also make an infused oil with it and turn it into a salve or as one ingredient in a salve (I added it to an antibiotic salve and one for shingles). Some of the issues it can address: cold sores, diabetes, wounds and infections; insect bites, stings, rashes, and poison ivy; viral infections, respiratory infections, chronic inflammation, kidney problems, hypertension, heart, liver, digestive problems...and more!
Where do you plant your stinging nettle?
I'm torn on this one. I really feel like I need to have some and we don't have any patches locally. Thinking about in a corner somewhere. I have an acre and a half :)
