Honda FatCat TR200 - Top Speed Run - Low Speed Crash - More DANGEROUS than a Three Wheeler!

- I finally had a chance to take the 1986 Honda FatCat TR200 for a ride; the one I had just gotten earlier in the month. I have a 1987 FatCat that I've driving a handful of times around the property, but never in the winter. My friend Pat had told me that these are fun to ride in the snow, so I figured I'd see for myself!
Turns out these things are pretty stinking dangerous to ride in the snow! I was on the ground in about 20 feet! After that happened I changed some of my plans because I realized immediately that this was not going to take me where I was planning on going.
Despite the early setback, I managed to make my way out on to the ice of the frozen Great Sacandaga Lake where I nearly wiped out about 20 more times as I reached almost double digit speeds! I was really covering some ground!
I decided to abort my extended plans for this ride and come back home early, but I made a detour to a slightly longer, but safer route home. This route included a little road riding where I was able to record the top speed for this beast. You'll have to suffer through the video to find out what that was!
These Fat Cats are honestly pretty fun machines. These were definitely not the conditions to be riding one in though. Maybe if I had studded tires it would be another story. I'm looking forward to giving this one a restoration when the time is right. For now, she'll have to sit patiently.

I could picture your Dad’s mile-wide grin as he watched, shaking his head the whole time!
I remember your dad remarking over a coffee as to why there were the numbers separating the ages of us all….. “There’s a good reason why we shouldn’t have grown up together!”
HAHAHAHA! There's a lot of truth to that!!
Between the high tech font you're using in the video and the smiling-surprised face you used for the top speed results....this video rules
I wanted a more shocked face for the top speed reveal... but I had that one handy. I think I'm going to up my game and get a mount for my phone so we can all see the speedometer real time... will probably screen record it and overlay it in future videos. Get super fancy...
This video made me anxious lol. Glad you’re still intact!
Lol... it was quite possibly the softest crash I've ever had. A LOT softer than my crash with Aron...
I will tell you from experience any 2 wheel machine on the snow or ice is a handful and not that fun. Ware the fat cat rules is hill climbing. It’s the only bike I was able to do sick climbs on and the nice thing is you don’t have to be wound out to make it up. Most of the time I just putted to the top. Cool video man.
Well that makes me want to get back out there and climb some hills on this thing! My buddy John has a couple and he went up a very technical mountain trail with us. I rolled my eyes when he showed up with the FatCat but I was super impressed by how it performed that day!
Awesome video, that's cool that there is a pub right off the lake for riders! Looks like you had fun, and we're terrified at the same time, lol. Glad to see you out riding.
It was definitely and unpredictable machine out on in the snow. Not nearly as dangerous as I was implying. The pub is a cool place but they honestly don't try hard enough. I used to work there when they first opened in 1997. It was a classier place then... Worked there for probably 4 years... kitchen staff at first, then waiting tables. Had a lot of fun. Now most the food comes out in a wax paper lined plastic basket with a plastic cup. That family owns 4 restaurants around the lake... kind of a monopoly. They've bought out their competition so they don't have to try too hard to be excellent.
always wanted one of these as a kid
Just awesome. Always wanted one. Looks like a lot of fun. Thanks preston.
Thanks man! They are definitely a good time!
The Fat Cats are so cool! I’ve always wanted to ride one. Have fun!
Yes!!! The fat cat riding! Maybe when it warms up, it’ll be time to take that bad mamajama out again! Another great video man!
Yes sir!! I think we just got off on the wrong foot with this one.
I remember top speed was faster than the 250x back then. I was let loose with one one these when i was 11 years old. I survived. I wore it out riding to school in Alaska as well for a few years. Ive always wanted to find one again.
Just watched buddy. Wow! 56mph is suprising but sweet! I bet that thing is squirrely in the snow. And they said ATCs were dangerous...geez! Lol.
That did look scary, but I'd give her another chance in the summer, for
sure ! ✌️
Yeah, I think she deserves another shot on terra firma for sure... lol
The wide tires make it want to follow every line in the snow and dirt as far as that goes. My family owned one for years. It got better once we put a rear tire from a 400 Foreman on it and the front was a directional knobby. A little larger than stock tires. You couldn't stop it in the mud and it climbed hills like nothing I've ever seen. I love the low seat height.
If you consider selling it, Let me know.
Love these Fat Cats!
You're such a cat person...
@@ThisOldTrike Don't tell Chloe
The best way to crash. LOL. I have never seen a fat cat in person.
If you decide not to keep it let me know, would love to have one. Especially in this shape.
I’m right there with you on the no less then 3 wheels bud
Im probably gonna do all the things you said not to...starting with buying a fatcat!
Love it. I'm pretty non-compliant myself!
I have two and use them for hunting only, no trouble at all...
👍👍👍
Nice
I know you are but what am I....
I still want one lol
When will Dinky show up! 😘
I need one bad
Didn't you see how dangerous they are!! lol... it's a fun kinda dangerous I suppose though.
I've always wanted to ride a fat cat
Be careful! They're kinda hairy!
LOL, when quad/trike guys ride a dirt bike. There's a reason we don't ride motorcycles in the winter.
They ride more betterer on packed trails ....lol high flotation tires in snow ....what could go wrong right? studs may help the cause!!
I agree! It was a fun little rip. They're definitely more of a novelty machine. I still dig it!
Keeping up with all the gas in your bikes must be a pain
Lol, they couldn't call it a FatCat nowadays... it would have to be a size challenged feline.
Sell it to me!
Sounds like fat cats are useless
