Very sad story. I live in New Jersey a 57 year old man was just killed in Atlantic City riding a ebike. The driver has not been charged with anything so far.

I hope they fix the lanes for ebike riders. Someone has to die before the government does something. It will get worse. More riders will discover ebikes! The road was unsafe. Riders beware and be careful and avoid overspeeding. He was moving faster than 28 miles per hour. People obey the laws. They will keep you safe. May he rest in peace 🙏🏾.

They defiantly need to stop grouping e-bikes in with e-motos like Surons and Talaria's as well. Two different things.

We have deer here too, but skunks, raccoons and other critters sneaking around.

They push you into riding to the side of the road and then they cannot keep it clean. I see the same thing around here.

Since no other vehicles were "involved" and pure speculation by me, I have to wonder if another vehicle was at least involved in forcing the kid off the road. Seems weird that he was forced off the road at a time when no one else was around.
I'd love to see a video of you riding in the area the crash happened.

I ride my to work in the dark. We have few bike lanes to begin with here, but the few we have are often full of debris. Also has tons of sand, gravel, and pot holes. I use a motor cycle helmet on my faster bikes.

I will be wearing my motorcycle helmet more often, especially on my new Graffiti X.

The article says he died from a collision with a FedEx truck and the accident happened at 12:30 pm unless there were multiple accidents in Oregon last week. Wow, there were multiple deaths last week in Oregon involving Electric bikes.

No vehicles involved, just the ebike.

@@oregonebikermark8953 even that article is amazingly victim blaming - note the "electric bikes can travel up to 35mph" no mention of whether or not the person was going that fast, if his ebike can go that fast. No mention, like in the video of debris that lines a ton of bike lanes and forces cyclists to leave the lane.

Very sad, he was so young, tragic loss. I hope they check the cameras in that area for other motorist & do a blood test on him. Why was he out so early, riding in the dark? If they found him at 6:30 am, what time was the accident? So many questions & so sad for him & his family. I hope more info gets released on this tragedy.

I’m surprised your schools start so late, I didn’t think anything of the time as the high school in my neighborhood starts at 7:30, and plenty of kids go early for sports stuff and the like (workout before school). That’s a sad story, I hope they figure it out, but if it was a single rider incident they’ll probably never know for sure unless somebody’s security cam picked it up. Could have been swerving to avoid an animal or something. I do come down on the side that it’s a bad idea to give a 15 year old something that powerful. I wouldn’t consider getting my kids anything over class 2, and will probably just tell them to ride a regular bike. They don’t have to go that far, and kids can easily handle pedaling a normal bike.
We don’t have that many bike lanes around me, and the ones there are, are mostly on 25 mph roads where they don’t help that much. They do fill with debris and I avoid them in certain places as there can be a really deep layer of pine needles in certain places, or the worst I regularly go past are filled with a 3” deep layer of acorns this time of year that are very dangerous to ride through. I don’t think the county does anything to maintain them, I go out a couple of times in the fall and blow the needles into the woods along the county parkland, and I see homeowners out from time to time cleaning in front of their houses and I also see homeowners clearing the sidewalks of leaves on a busy 35 mph I go down sometimes that only has the sidewalk, no bike lane. I don’t think the county does anything on that road, no houses are directly along that sidewalk, I think it just gets taken care of by people who walk or bike there sometimes and don’t want themselves or others to break their ankles slipping on leaves or tripping over a buried stick, or something. Keeping bike lanes clear does not appear to be a priority at all of the county.
